    That was so cool at the end where the shadow figure appears out of the fog suddenly! I don't remember any cool moments like that ever happening in the game. You could never make dungeons truly dark enough to require a torch to see and light up the room as you moved around it. The fog effect was great here!

      Most definitely. It's one of the best RPGs ever made. The only thing I would say is that some prefer the expansion campaigns over the core campaign. But the core campaign has its merits too. If you're in to classic RPGs it's a no-brainer.

      For the official campaigns? No, they're extremely bland and boring. But the official campaigns are NOT why this game was so popular for so long. It has features that are completely unique in RPGs - the toolset and the DM client.
      The toolset allows users to easily create their own campaigns from scratch, so if you want to play the thousands of fan-made adventures out there (many of which easily surpass the official campaigns in quality), then you can play those. Or if you've ever wanted to create your own RPG, this is a very easy way of doing that.
      If you've played DND before, you'll know what a DM does. Well, the game ships with a DM client, meaning you don't have to be a player - you can be the dungeon master, taking control of NPCs and speaking for them, creating monsters and traps on the fly, and so on. As you can imagine, this level of storytelling can be so much more immersive.
      Finally, there's the Persistent Worlds, which are sort of like are sort of like your usual MMO-experience, but most of them require you to roleplay, and groups of Dungeon Masters also involved, dynamically changing the world around you.

    What do you think of the new updated graphics patch?

    • @GBMReviews
      @GBMReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The lighting looks a hell of a lot better now. I'm really impressed that they've hauled out an update that's improved things so much on a visual level. It's even better that they've added more to the toolset. Overall I'd say I'm pretty damn happy about it!
      However, this does come with the caveat that regardless of what they do now, they've ultimately made things harder for themselves. I know that Beamdog care about the games they handle, but if they'd put some more work in to begin with then NWN: Enhanced would have been a lot more appealing at launch. It's like two years old now, they should have pushed this out a while back. Better late than never.

    How on earth do you play on such a tiny ui scale and such small fonts? I couldn't read or click anything given the size of stuff in your video lol.
    For me, nwn was definitely a step back form BG2 that I was honestly pretty disappointed even when it was initially launched. And now BG2 has aged so much better too in most people's eyes. I just remember the campaign being so repetitive and boring, especially compared to the diverse and epic BG2 campaign.

    • @GBMReviews
      @GBMReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I went from one extreme to the other haha, back in the day I'd play it at 800x600 and the ui seemed huge, I prefer it scaled down now. It makes sense for the review too because you can see a little more of the battles/environments.
      Most people are in agreeance that the core campaign is overlong, and not the best. I'm not much of a D&D/CRPG guy, but NWN was my gateway into that world, and when I was a kid i totally fell in love with it. I won't deny that I'm wearing rose-tinted glasses though.
      I'm hoping to cover Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale in the future. I didn't play them back when they came out but I know people have a lot of admiration for those games.

    • @anvime739
      @anvime739 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original resolution was terrible. You can download some mods to make the fonts better and tweak the resolution but it’s still not ideal. I agree in that BG2 was much better. They did not have the tech yet to do proper 3D games so they should have done something more like Bg (maybe less dark, I hate how dark the screen is and the fog)

    How are the servers? Does it play like diablo 2 with the server list? Or could people just cheat engine items in?

    • @GBMReviews
      @GBMReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The servers are stable and it does have a similar feel to the D2 server lists. As for cheating, I've never seen it before but I'm sure it happens sometimes. I think theres less of an incentive because the rules of the map are at the DMs discretion. Some PvP maps will just gear and level you at the gate, so there's no reason to cheat. Most of the servers with a more traditional RPG progression are occupied by people who hardcore RP, and DMs have similar power to moderators so cheaters are easier to find and kick/ban.

    • @vOddy75
      @vOddy75 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most servers store the characters and their items on the server itself, so the server owner would have to cheat for you. This is like closed battle net. In open games, any thing goes: you can just build your own map, populate it with all of the items you want, make a character for that map, and then bring it to other servers. This is like open battle net, except even easier to "cheat" for.

    Is this worth 50$? On the switch

    • @GBMReviews
      @GBMReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Surely you can get it cheaper than that on the Switch!
      Like I mentioned in the video, theres not a massive advantage to getting it on any console platform (you get more additional campaigns if I remember rightly), but I cant speak for how it plays on switch as I've only played it on PC.
      The main thing to remember with getting it on console is that you lose out on the map editor, which is really fun and easy to use.
      If you could get it in the 25/30 range I'd definitely recommend it.

    • @GBMReviews
      @GBMReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I gave it a 7/10 based on the re-release itself. The original NWN is a classic, 10/10 for me. But, I'm not judging the original, I'm judging it as a re-release. I think 7 is a fair score, perhaps even on the generous side depending on perspective.
      There's been a massive graphic overhaul since I posted this review, so that would certainly affect the overall score!

      @ogaburan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GBMReviews sounds very IGNy, aka lack of stansards. U r not judging the original ofc, and i sincerily was looking for videos to explain what they added/changed. I still fail to understans what was extended. Its not even a question of releaaing skyrim on a switch (which is kind of impressive for such a small device), its on the same platform the original was released... are there compatibility issues this veraion solves that makes it a sifferent product at all? Otherwise, ans sinxe ive seen mods of much older games that change more (xfile for xcom, 1.13 for jagged alliance) and actually improve the game... i fail to understand why ita not a :"2; get the original, its more nostalgic"

    • @GBMReviews
      @GBMReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Theres not enough water for it to be like an IGN review ;)
      I understand where you're coming from. You could judge these re-releases a lot harsher. Generally speaking what is added/changed is generally very light (look at AoE2, Baldur's Gate), but it is a balancing act. If they change too much then when does it start to become a different game altogether, and if they change too little is it just a shameless cash grab?
      I think I've got a soft spot for Beamdog cause they're connected to Bioware, so there's a genuine affection for the games.
      As far as re-releases go I don't think this is a bad one. It's more or less what you'd expect. Slightly improved graphics (at time of review), improved compatibility, core game with exp packs bundled together (all premium modules should have been included imo), new, fresh servers with an old-school server list, etc. It has things going for it, and you can't expect too much from these re-releases. It's just nice to see old games like this get any attention at all.

      The appeal isn’t the graphics nearly as much as the game’s systems. The closest modern games we have to NWN are Pillars of Eternity which is single player and Divinity Original Sin 1/2 which are much harder to create custom content for. For many many years this game was the best way to play something like D&D online with friends.
