One Of The Greatest Songs Ever Written❤
Paul Kellys sister was my music teacher at my highschool. She was so lovely. She talked fondly of her brother. I miss those days.
I came here thanks to the series "Boy swallows Universe", first time listening to this song . Really like it👍
Watching this and hearing my children singing it behind me, I've raised them well!
Not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the latest series on Instaflixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown =)
@Donovan Kieran Definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself :D
Playing this at my funeral. Ought to lighten the mood lol.
Thats literally why i just watched the video, i was watching a YT interview with a funeral directorx and a question was about funeral songs.
This ones on my list!
This is a song of regret. I play it in 3:4 on a ukulele and it's works beautifully. Totally changes the feel, but it's much more in keeping with the lyrics.
One of the greatest songwriters ever ! Still going strong in 2022 !!
Paul Kelly, as a song writer must be the most underated Australian song writer ever.
When it’s still being played and sung loud and proud, you know it’s a great Aussie Classic 👌🏾💯🇦🇺
This is easily one of the best songs ever written, has been a favourite of mine since the '80s.
The groove is killer. Keep on rockin'!
Almost word for word what I came here to say. I love Paul and band so much.
Today played at my Uncle's funeral, Paul Kelly was always his favourite artist. Him and his old Jack Russel he bailed out of the pound every week dancing to this with him in his arms around the lounge, back when he had his white curly mullet. His dog passed on, but the memories for him sure didn't. He'd always head down to the beach for fishing, Paul Kelly blasting from his phone whenever you called. This song will always be close to me in my heart. Not to mention his name was also Paul, pretty ironic. Thank you for being so kind to me, I wish I could have gotten to know you better. Rest easy.
your uncle was probably trying to get out of his coffin so he could turn this garbage shit toilet music off
Was born in 79 and never really thought much about the 80's (being a kid and all) but now at 44......well the nostalgia I get from 80s music and movies is unbeatable. It all must have soaked in because it's rare I hear a track or see a movie that I dont recall from that period, and I gotta say......its pretty hard to beat a lot of them.
Love the harmonica...and the rest
"Thought my friends would rush to my defence"
Been there
Yep. But then people I didn't know were my real friends stepped up. Much fewer than didn't, but you find out who's real and who isn't. That's a gift.
I discovered this song in college and had to rush out and buy the cassette tape. It's still great music.
I found this song on the movie Young Einstein went out and bought the sound track of the movie great music 🙋♀️
Does anyone know who the Harp player is because he's the best mouth organist I've ever heard. Totally awesome.
Dumb things, that's called life. So beautiful in Australia, thank you Paul Kelly
in a punchy cry from the heart, kelly regrets just about everything.
Awesome song
I remember having Young Einstien on VHS when I was about 8 years old and always loved this song. had no idea where the tape went but never forgot this song (way before the internet so no way to find it)I looked for it for years and never found it but never forgot the melody. fast forward 30 years my friend said hey were gonna go see this guy Paul Kelly play in Hollywood. when this song started playing I was like HOLY SHIT ! ITS THE SONG !!!!!
It’s a phenomenal feeling that kids under 30 will never know. I had the same experience with Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ and must have waited 15 years with that melody still perfectly intact in my memory until around 2005 when I caught the last minute of it on a random radio station switch, and remember using the dial-up version of Shazam (#2580) to find out the song. Trying to sing parts of it to friends in the hope that they’d recognise it failed miserably. I tried playing it on the piano to my mum, who claimed she had no idea what song it was. The irony being that she was a massive fan of The Bush and had the album in our house since it’s release. ‘‘Twas under my nose all those years and I never knew.
"Angels

"I accept No Lord over Me in Life of Authority."

RIP Chris Wilson - love the harmonica riffs.
Know all the words, sing it loud and proud!
Look who’s talking ❤️ now I’m in love with this song
This song was played by my father a lot when I was little. Happy memories.
I am a Yank . My brother introduced me to them. As he said at the time “ Don’t know why they aren’t bigger . “ They are just as good Songwriters as REM “
Yeah! I never thought of it before, but they are. I'm an Aussie and I approve this comment.
Bigger than you realise, Paul Kelly has been around for many years..
Springsteen likes them I've heard him say it..
Do yourself a favour and get the Comedy album.
I'm an Aussie i love Paul Kelly, seen him live a few times over the years amazing band. Better than REM.
Dumb things is one of my favourite songs from him..
@@johndelaney2957 I had 2 LPs by them . One starts out with “ This is the last train “. Forgive me I am aging . Yes I have heard the song “Dumb Things”. In a addition to great songs Paul Kelly and the Messengers also have superb instrumentation
This song..
All of it...
My past, and many of us alike. 🇦🇺
“Packed to the rafters” brought me here, love the song, the show, and Australia looks Amazing!
One of our best and greatest song composers ...drum roll... Paul Kelly.
Listening 2020.
One of the best!!
One of most infectious songs I ever heard.
What a tune! One of the greatest, pure 80’s cool music, love it, proper musicians doing there thing! Godspeed to all the appreciators of this one! People who know about good music💫💫💫
Brilliant! Remember hearing this as a teenager and I am now 57. Still holds up and is just plain...Brilliant!
Yes Finally found it.After all these years
Paul Kelly is an absolute legend of Australia… I’ll be pushing for a crows theme song. Reckon this bloke was first 11 and first 18 at Rostrevor, maybe Dux as well. His music is remarkable and has helped shaped our country.❤
Blackfriars always a better school then Rossi but that’s pretty good I didn’t even know he went there
I spent years trying to figure out what this song was because it got played in the cafe on neighbours in the 80’s and it got stuck in my brain. I knew the chorus tune but didn’t know the words
I've loved this song for years. It warms my heart to see a video for it on YT.
@@johnsiegfried9162 And a scene in "Young Einstein" and various other films from the time period. It was quite popular.
My fav song in look whos talking soundtrack
🎵 LYRICS 🔃
Welcome, strangers, to the show
I'm the one who should be lying low
Saw the knives out, turned my back
Heard the train coming, stayed out on the track
In the middle, in the middle, in the middle of a dream
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings
I've done all the dumb things
Caught the fever, heard the tune
Thought I loved her, hung my heart on the moon
Started howling, made no sense
Thought my friends would rush to my defence
In the middle, in the middle, in the middle of a dream
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings
I've done all the dumb things
Yeah, I threw my hat into the ring
I've done all the dumb things
And I get all your good advice
It never stops me from going through these things twice
I see the knives out, I turn my back
I hear the train coming, I stay right on that track
In the middle, in the middle, in the middle of a dream
I lost my shirt, I pawned my rings
I've done all the dumb things
I melted wax to fix my wings
I've done all the dumb things
Yeah, I threw my hat into the ring
I've done all the dumb things
I thought that I just had to sing
I've done all the dumb things
Probably the best Ever Harp/Harmonica Aussie Song. Go Paul xxx
When you rush a nine months pregnant women on the backseat of a runaway yellow cab inside crowded NYC this is definitely the song to play. Loud.
“Hey why don’t u pull over til the ‘ludes wear off!” -Travolta RIP sweetest Kirstie!

"i melted wax to fix my wings" might be the greatest lyric ever written 😁✌️
I have just started singing this in our work band. I already knew it word-for-word so no lyric sheet required. I had forgotten how fun it was.

Brings back memories and a smile along with it. Great song.
This should be Australia’s national anthem.
Excellent song 🎵
His best song I think
I only know this a a fluke of the radio. My "classic rock " station played this a bit when it came out. But knew nothing about him. Other than I like it. More familiar with his music now.
Great song
This song was also on heavy rotation at The Bayside Diner in Home @ Away around 1989/1990.
cant hear this without seeing Yahoo Serious rocking the shit in a hotel room with a violin and 10 kids, then hauling ass down a street with that majestic hair blowing in the wind trying to stop the Bavarian Beer Co. from using his E = MC2 formula to put bubbles in beer
My old drinkin song ,ahhh the memories
My dad worked with your cousin in SA , definitely Prokofiev you! Thank you for the music xx
Just in the middle of a week in Melbourne. Changed so much since we last visited...please please keep gems like this, cars that ate Paris, all things aussie....because from what I'm experiencing in Melbourne, noodle bars, Asians on cell phones, . .a great culture is disappearing fast...hell, walking in Collins st can't even get a meat pie or a beer...beware the the yellow peril, it's already taken over auckland, please don't be next
