why bother about the lyrics if the music is as CLASSY as this. Reb Beach on guitar and Rod Morgenstein on drums make everybody freeze with respect , because it can't get any better !
Kip wrote this song about the model Rachel Hunter, his girlfriend at the time. It's about finding the special love he's looking for, wasn't her 🤷♀️ But he did find his "rainbow in the rose" not long after and married her within 6 months.
Can't say it's the intended meaning, but I've always interpreted "rainbow in the rose" to be that 'thing' everyone is looking and reaching for in life, which might not be easily described in words, and is different for each person. Could be a dream, a sense of peace, love that is true and stable, an answer to some mystery... the list goes on. The image given by "rainbow in the rose" make it seem like something truly desirable, but somewhat elusive -almost like a fantasy thing (maybe people who continue to chase a lifelong dream wonder if it's even possible for it to ever exist in reality). Because it's not really a defined thing, it could represent anything that's relevant for each listener. Anything that's far away, and maybe you're not sure how you're going to find it or when you will, but you're determined to keep looking for it through life... that's what I think it means.
I knew Tre would get hung up on that lyric. Sometimes you just gotta listen and not think too much about it. You either kind of understand it or you don't but either way the music is still phenomenal.
Great song. Love the music in this one. Yeah that lyric is up for interpretation but musically it fits.
