Just finished a 72 hour fat fast as directed. Literally only drank olive oil, MCT, sesame oil and avocado oil at the proportions suggested. I have to say as far as general feeling, mental acuity, concentration, etc. it was not as enjoyable as the 72 hour water fast I've done. That being said, the results I think are greater as far as body comp, weight loss, fat loss, are more noticeable. I think the mental issues were due to the high levels on Ketosis I achieved. Most of the time my Keto Mojo was just reading HI for Ketones. My glucose which is normally around 85-88 dropped to around 67, thus my GKI's were around .3-.6. I also dropped from 188lbs to 181 from Sunday evening to Thursday morning. Body comp differences are very noticeable as well. Did a re-entry meal with Bone broth and Lean Protein on Wednesday afternoon/night. Tested Ketones Thursday morning at 3.8. What I wanted to point out was that after a :40 min HIIT workout on Thursday morning my Ketones jumped back up to 7.2, when they normally drop post workout. Is this due to more fat metabolism/oxidation? Trying to understand why this happened, so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I think this meets the outline he described pretty well
best fat fast is with suet. It's almost pure fat, but it has such a high melting point due to being full of gristle and stearic acid so it doesn't melt much as you cook it. I also like to take a stick of butter and cut it lengthwise so it's shaped more like a chocolate bar...and eat it like a chocolate bar.
My subconscious just reminded me about a source of knowledge called the Internet. ☺️ I just did a search and found several articles on fat fasting. I am so embarrassed that I didn’t think about searching after his earlier video. ☺️
Your last video about this got me thinking about starting a fat fast to get back into ketosis after such a long time off - started today, perfect timing! 🙌🏻
If 100% of you calories are from fat, then as TD explains, fats are your “food”. It’s all just a numbers game using TDs recommended %. The two things that I find missing from the video is the delivery method of the fats and the amount of fat per “meal”. Coffee? Water? Zero calorie sweetened beverage? Can you just stevia to coconut oil and freeze it for a little “dessert”? I assume yes to all of these but that is just an educated assumption. As for how much in one “meal”? I know 2oz of mct oil in one drink will have me running to the restroom. I assume that is not the goal of all of this. TD if you are reading these, any favorite carriers for your ghee or evoo that you recommend? Or is a scale and a shot glass all we need to do this effectively and safely. Thanks for another great video. Be well

Is there any actual food that can be eaten? It sounds to me as though drinking spoonfuls of oil through the day is the only option. What about training during a fat fast? Please do a Part 2 for this video answering those questions!
@@silvertab2002 💯 In the video, there was a clip of eggs being eaten. That is misleading though because of course, eggs have protein and not allowed. The video thumbnail shows TD making a BP coffee. The assumption is, coffee is allowed, but he doesn’t clarify. Very ambiguous!
@Bitcoin Kitty you're thinking of something else. A fat fast is literally fasting from everything but mostly pure fat. Even pure egg yolks have too much protein. Butter and unrefinrd coconut oil are going to be your... Bread and butter here.
@Bitcoin Kitty sure, high fat keto works great. It's just not fat fasting. Fat fasting actually provides autophagy because there's essentially zero protein coming in. Imo fat fasting is really only useful for helping someone learn how to do a real (not intermittent) fast. Once you become a faster it's just calories you don't need. Oh, one other usecase would be to do one day of fat fasting per week during a really long prolonged fast to get fat soluble vitamins in.

Recently I moved back home and my Mother watched me eat fat for 3 weeks and started questioning my sanity until I lifted up my t-shirt to show her my abs and intercoastals popping out . Even tho she was impressed at the results and could see my health and vitality increase , she simply cannot shake her programming that fats are bad .
Yeah that happens to me as well with my older diabetes patients, they’ve been brainwashed for 70 years by the American heart association so yeah not easy to change engrained beliefs they have. One way I found is helpful is bulletproof coffee/decaf/tea, bacon/eggs/butter, they seem to be more agreeable to that than eating the straight up animal fats on the meat.

Thank you for the vídeo Thomas. Hello from Brazil! Please, see if you can show us a fat fasting protocol in a future vídeo like you did for other kinds of fasting in this channel. I will apreciate it.
I was just researching fat fasting today . They say this could re start a stuck plateau on keto . I am very keen now . No loss of hunger for one , Reboot the fat burning the body needs . Interesting for sure .
Sample meal plan Day 1: Meal 1: 4 TBSP. unsalted butter or ghee - 48-54g fat (432-486 calories) Meal 2: 4 TBSP. Extra Virgin Olive Oil 48g fat (432 calories) Meal 3: 2 TBSP. Cod Liver Oil 24g fat (216 calories) Sample meal plan day 2: Meal 1: Bulletproof coffee- 2 tbsp MCT oil + 2 TBSP. unsalted butter - 50g fat (450 calories) *note- Personally, I would have you add 1 tbsp heavy cream to the coffee- the protein content is very low on HC.and also add 1 tsp. erythritol for flavor. Meal 2: 4 TBSP. Avocado Oil 48g fat (432 calories) Meal 3: 2 TBSP. flaxseed Oil 24g fat (216 calories) Personally, I think you would be ok If you did 2-3 cups of either spinach or cabbage a day just so you can have something to pour the fats to, they are extremely low in carbs. Also, on day 3 or 4, I would add an egg YOLK omelet with 3-4 whole yolks cooked with avocado oil. They still have protein, but it is extremely low. and as Thomas said, you can spread these calories out however you want during the day.
You forgot the "what to eat and how often" part. All I know is fats and bone broth. Do I take a spoon and scoop out ghee and eat it? or do shots of EVOO during the two-day fat fast? Am I eating any food? You showed a pic of eggs..is that ok? Yes/no? During the two-day fast, how often am I supposed to eat? After I break it with bone broth, then what? A salad? Did I miss an entire segment of the video or is more coming? I get the theory....you explained it very well....but how do I actually do this? Thanks!

I'm about 63houers in - I've never had the keto flue before (when I just fasted for multiple days) but yesterday night and this morning was just terrible. Bloodsugar was as far down as 2.7, neusea, sweating while being cold, headache...... Retrospective I see that I drunk way to little - and with Magnesium, Potassium, Electrolytes and Bonebroth I feel much better now - but as I rewatched this video it got to me that it's probably because of the higher keton-levels that I experienced the flue aymptomes. Looking forward to eating low fat for a lillte after this!
Thank you Thomas! I can always depend on you for clear direction backed by great scientific research. I lost 70 pounds in 2019 with a ketogenic OMAD diet, but then gained it all back. Time to start over and I think this fat fast would be a great way to quickly get fat adapted again and hopefully cut cravings. Can I still drink water with electrolytes during this fast? May God bless you and your beautiful family is my prayer!
yes, just like Jackal recommended, i drink tea & coffee with alternating oils throughout the day. my favorite oils for this are unrefined cold pressed coconut, mct, & cocoa/vanilla mct oil powder. butter is popular for bullet proof coffee but i have never tried it. might not count, but i have thought about trying spinach leaves tossed in extra virgin olive/avocado oil & a little salt when i feel like i *need* something slightly more substantial in my stomach. i don’t think it would hinder the overall effect but there are probably many hardcore fat fasters that would disagree.
Yes, as long as there are no carbs or proteins in it you're good to go. Green tea and apple cider vinegar are helpful in increasing effects of autophagy too. You won't get as much as a straight water fast but you will still get some.
@@patrick6213 ....but that's the thing. He mentioned avoiding the capsule shell of cod liver oil. So if the capsule shell is an issue, what about the small amount of carbs present in tea, coffere, acv etc?
@@LilHeartMusic In past videos he has mentioned that the added effects you get from coffee, green tea, and apple cider vinegar outweigh any of the very small negative effects they might have.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but are you just supposed to consume the oil straight up? Other than coffee are there any other vehicles for the fats?
I have not been able to do a 72-hour water-only fast. I was able to fat-fast. When the hunger pangs get to be too much, I eat an avocado, or 3 egg yolks, or 1/4 cup organic unroasted macadamia nuts, or 1oz cream cheese on a celery stick, or green tea with some heavy whipping cream, butter, mct oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil. Bone broth didn't do anything for me.
Animal fats. Butter, tallow, suet, Etc. MCT oil, coconut oil as well. Just make sure you get 1000 to 1200 calories of it a day. Nobody can tell you exactly what to eat, you have to calculate it yourself based on what you have available and what you like. Just remember animal fats and you'll be okay.

A few questions (sorry if I missed him covering it): 1) He states 1000-1500 calories from fat - is that tied to his body's caloric needs or universal for everyone? 2) For how long does one need to break the fast (before entering the lean protein phase)? 3) When breaking the fast (before entering the lean protein phase), should only bone broth be consumed or should the remaining calories after the broth be filled by the ratio of fats detailed in this fast? 4) When in the lean protein phase, can carbs be introduced? 5) Are there any ancillary adjustments that should be made, such as with water, salt, or even activity? Thanks!
I would also like to know if we can hv any supplements while on fat fast like magnesium, potassium, VitD3, Curcumin, Kelp etc. Pls make a video on it to understand fat fast better
potassium and magnesium are essential salts (electrolytes), and definitely a good idea. Vitamin d3 and curcumin are also acaloric and shouldn't interrupt your fast to my knowledge. kelp supps and other things that originate from food, probably safest to stay away from.
I love the information but the videos showing eggs, salmon etc are very confusing. An idea or meal plan for the 4 days would be useful. I can't drink olive oil off a spoon lol so need to know how to consume these fats please? Happy to put some in my coffee like butter and mct oil etc but not sure what to do with the others. Maybe coconut oil fat bombs with double cream but some clarity definately needed please Thomas

According to Dr. Berg, it takes up to 16 weeks to get fully adapted, because the cells have to replace themselves over time to become more fat friendly. I've been thinking of doing a long term water fast, but I am thinking of doing a long term fat fast, using fat to supplement hunger when walking or other options cannot force it to go away, with the idea that eventually I'll either have lost so much weight or have become so adapted that the fats will no longer be needed because of fat adaptation and ketosis.
Thanks, However I was also looking for ideas of items to use (beyond what I have already been using). Additionally, I'd not considered the ratio of saturated fats to other fats also (thanks for the tidbit of info).
I have started keto, I eat breakfast around 9.00, lunch / Dinner around 2.00/3.00 then a hot choc with unsweetened almond milk, a little cream and collagen around 7.00 I did count the calories as well and tried to stay around 1400 cals , if under by too much I would eat some nuts, usually almonds, I lost a kilo in the first week, but since then nothing for the last two weeks, I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Long story short, eat salted butter or salted ghee when you are hungry, stop eating when you’re satiated, try adding 1 tbsp of fish oil a day for the omega 3s. Break your fast with soft boiled eggs, then go back to your diet.
I have a question. You say eat pure fat. What exactly do I eat? Lard? Drink all those oils? I'm confused. What would my food sources be during "eat fat only'". Please advise.
I’ve been consistently losing weight doing this. It’s been slow but steady: 40 pounds in 8 months. I feel great and I’m not depriving myself of anything. I usually eat a bacon cheese burger with a lot of mayo and buttered toasted buns, and a side of battered and fried cheese curds in the morning. This keeps me full all day at work. If i get slightly hungry after work I’ll have a snickers or something like that followed with a lot of water. I drink a lot of water and don’t hold back on the salt. Sometimes I’ll supplement with magnesium if I’m feeling a little depleted after too much water. I just keep losing weight, I feel great, and i get to eat what I want, as long as the majority of those calories are healthy fats.
I do this but I dont eat my fats in a meal, I take a sip of EVOO or 1 tsp of coconut oil when I feel like I need It, which could be all from 499-800 kcal of fats per day
What happens if you do a protein fast with low calories like canned smoked herring 3-4 times per day without added oil? What does that do to our chemistry?
Please watch the movie Lorenzo's oil. It's a video of how to heal certain predispositions to certain diseases with fat. Instead of dismissing it as us all not having the particular disorder the boys had in the vid, what I learned is that certain disorders need a certain combo of specific types of fats. I think this will be something you can use with your current knowledge to help people. If you watch this vid, can you mention this vid and tell us how you use the concepts. The father of the boy found the solution to his son's disorder and he saved tons of boys from the same fate. He understood that the molecular structures of fats could be combined and used in a way to supply the body with what it couldn't so for itself.
How to do it though? What exactly to eat??? Please make another video with clear instructions on the how!! Waiting excitedly for more details! Thanks!!
All sounds so great, but how do you consume those fats!!! do you just gulp down a half cup of EVOL(Extra Virgin Olive Oil) ? because i tried that from advice from another video i saw on how EVOLVE can be beneficial to the brain and frankly i was gagging ? EVOL taste on it's own is realy truly awful as it's SO bitter, I did try drinking some water mixed with ACV (apple cider vinegar) to help but eating this way is very hard to do. I am assuming that we can only eat these fats and nothing else??? can we blend these fats into some kind of Bullet coffee ??? If Tom can be a bit more clear on HOW we consume these fats that would be very helpful.

Gosh what an excellent regiment, I am keto and use intermittent fasting , this produced unbelievable results for me so much so that I don't want to tell anyone how much weight I lost in the 4 days of and 1 week after cause they wouldn't believe me.
Tell us please
Yes please tell us how you consumed the fats, did you just eat them from the spoon ?
I'm all ears......😊
I am going to do this with beef tallow and butter.
Not eating any seed oils. 20 hours in
Plz let us know how it went for you?
How did this work out for you. I was considering doing it with butter also, not seed oils.
Ok so this is my plan:
Days 1-3 (Fat Fasting)
Breakfast: 2 high dose fish oil capsules.
Coffee blended with 1tbsp mct oil and 1tbsp EVOO
Lunch: green tea blended with 1tbsp mct oil and 1tbsp EVOO
Dinner: herbal/chamomile tea blended with 1tbsp mct oil and 1tbsp EVOO
Day 4-5:
Breakfast: 8-16oz bone broth
Second breakfast: 3-6 oz organic deli turkey
Lunch: 6-8oz grilled chicken with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green onions, kalamata olives, 1oz feta, 1/2 tbsp olive oil, lemon juice
Dinner: 6-8oz salmon or sirlion with broccoli, onions mushrooms and garlic cooked in 1 tbsp butter and a bit of avocado oil spray.
I think this meets the outline he described pretty well
How did this go?
Did ya do it?
best fat fast is with suet. It's almost pure fat, but it has such a high melting point due to being full of gristle and stearic acid so it doesn't melt much as you cook it. I also like to take a stick of butter and cut it lengthwise so it's shaped more like a chocolate bar...and eat it like a chocolate bar.
I would love to see an actual daily eating plan here.

I eat meat after I don’t eat vegetables so or salads meat and eggs only

My subconscious just reminded me about a source of knowledge called the Internet. ☺️ I just did a search and found several articles on fat fasting. I am so embarrassed that I didn’t think about searching after his earlier video. ☺️
Your last video about this got me thinking about starting a fat fast to get back into ketosis after such a long time off - started today, perfect timing! 🙌🏻
I would love to see a break down of what a 2 to 3 day fat fast would look like for food wise.
Be well
@@gratefulhikes this is spot on my point. I do a 72 hour water fast at the start of every month. I would love to switch it up sometimes, maybe with a fat fast, I'm not sure of how to get it in me.
@@Johnroz38I think that it’s safe to say that a water fast is totally different than a fat fast. Personally , I love a good water fast and I ’m hoping I love this for its own reasons. Let’s hope there is a part 2 of the video or at least some comments from TD to fill in the holes. Be well JTW!
@@johnj9267 that would be my morning go to, but I’ve been limiting caffeine after noon for sleep reasons. I don’t mind eating a spoonful of ghee or clarified bacon fat every now and again (I do it on trail all the time) but am always open to new ways to creatively ingest fat! Be well JS!
@@gratefulhikes absolutely. I love my 72 hour fast each month, and how I feel afterwards. I have tried weekends of little fat and higher "clean carbs" (still no processed sugar or gluten) and see the difference my body feels after that. I would love to try two to three days of just fat to see the kind of effects and how I would feel afterwards since I have been doing keto for about 2 and a half years now.
Is there any actual food that can be eaten? It sounds to me as though drinking spoonfuls of oil through the day is the only option. What about training during a fat fast? Please do a Part 2 for this video answering those questions!
agreed. i'm not drinking oil, LoL. can he tell us an actual plan to eat?
I did a bullet proof style coffee: coffee, cacao, mct, ghee, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, inulin and followed it with an 80% fat dinner. Baby greens...3 cups has almost no calories or carbs.. with homemade olive oil dressing, olives and avocado and a very yummy, high fat soup with only a couple of ounces of salmon, herbs, miso and lots of fat: ghee, coconut oil, heavy pasture raised heavy cream and coconut butter.
What, specifically, did u do? What fats did you eat?
@@seasonshider I followed a Carnivore/Ketogenic diet .
Fats from fish/🍖 meat/avocado/pecans/macadamia/macadamia/butter 🧈 etc
@@justinzaff thank you
Yeah that happens to me as well with my older diabetes patients, they’ve been brainwashed for 70 years by the American heart association so yeah not easy to change engrained beliefs they have. One way I found is helpful is bulletproof coffee/decaf/tea, bacon/eggs/butter, they seem to be more agreeable to that than eating the straight up animal fats on the meat.
Starting my first 3 - 4 day fat fast today. Im really hoping this tips me over the edge to fat adaptation. Ive been on keto for 3 weeks strong and its time to kick this keto fatigue out of my life!!!
How did it go?
Thank you for the vídeo Thomas. Hello from Brazil! Please, see if you can show us a fat fasting protocol in a future vídeo like you did for other kinds of fasting in this channel. I will apreciate it.
I was just researching fat fasting today . They say this could re start a stuck plateau on keto . I am very keen now . No loss of hunger for one , Reboot the fat burning the body needs . Interesting for sure .
Daily menu PLEASE!!! We would really appreciate it Thomas!!

Olive Oil
Coconut Oil
Fat lol
@@hughmann1927 Lol
Sample meal plan Day 1:
Meal 1: 4 TBSP. unsalted butter or ghee - 48-54g fat (432-486 calories)
Meal 2: 4 TBSP. Extra Virgin Olive Oil 48g fat (432 calories)
Meal 3: 2 TBSP. Cod Liver Oil 24g fat (216 calories)
Sample meal plan day 2:
Meal 1: Bulletproof coffee- 2 tbsp MCT oil + 2 TBSP. unsalted butter - 50g fat (450 calories)
*note- Personally, I would have you add 1 tbsp heavy cream to the coffee- the protein content is very low on HC.and also add 1 tsp. erythritol for flavor.
Meal 2: 4 TBSP. Avocado Oil 48g fat (432 calories)
Meal 3: 2 TBSP. flaxseed Oil 24g fat (216 calories)
Personally, I think you would be ok If you did 2-3 cups of either spinach or cabbage a day just so you can have something to pour the fats to, they are extremely low in carbs. Also, on day 3 or 4, I would add an egg YOLK omelet with 3-4 whole yolks cooked with avocado oil. They still have protein, but it is extremely low.
and as Thomas said, you can spread these calories out however you want during the day.
I'd like to see Thomas DeLauer do the Joe Rogan podcast. I'd really like to see them talk about stuff.
I broke my plateau with a one day egg diet... Just eggs with butter for cooking...Went really deep into ketosis....
Love doing egg fast
You forgot the "what to eat and how often" part. All I know is fats and bone broth. Do I take a spoon and scoop out ghee and eat it? or do shots of EVOO during the two-day fat fast? Am I eating any food? You showed a pic of eggs..is that ok? Yes/no? During the two-day fast, how often am I supposed to eat? After I break it with bone broth, then what? A salad? Did I miss an entire segment of the video or is more coming? I get the theory....you explained it very well....but how do I actually do this? Thanks!

@@txivneebswafflesandshroom Taking the Lord's name in vain was punishable by death in the Old Testament. You are using the Creator's name as a word of disgust. Would you use your mother's name like that? No, of course not....that would disrespect and dishonor her. So dont do it to God either. Back to the issue at hand, I didn't name the video or make it. I just pointed out that the video didn't match the title. I was seeking out information about what exactly we were supposed to eat and when....details needed. I am just about done with this channel now.
He gave the calorie amounts, the fat ratios, and types of fats/oils. It just takes a little planning to look at your life and plan around that, then adjust as you go. Or you can find “menus” through other resources on the internet. Personally, I would make fat coffee in the morning, take “shots” of oils around noon, and then in the evening make decaf fat coffee or use tea instead. For the fat I would use what I already have-MCT, ghee, butter, avocado, and evoo-in the ratio he specified.
He stopped responding mostly a while back I think due to some negativity, either through some people arguing about sponsors etc (he is a business, that makes money for his family and only uses sponsors that he believes in, he likes feeding his children)
Or just him not having enough spare time around filming 1-2 videos a day and looking after the kids/working out. (Along with researching, for a long time, studying take hours)
I did this without even knowing, I had awesome results, Now a days I thought strict fasting was the key but since I lift on a daily its very hard not to eat protein..
I am fasting rn, will take some tallow with salt tomorrow morning
PART 3 PLEASE: Do a fat fast and show us HOW and what you consumed throughout each day ( or if each day is the same, just show one day and say "repeat".
Yes I had to eat fat to activate my next level of weight loss. Now I know why I craved it. Ty
Thank you so much! I've been waiting for this.
Can you still consume Black coffee or herbal tea when you do a fat fast? 🙋🏾
yes, and it's a good idea to use those beverages as a vehicle through which to consume your fats too.
yes, just like Jackal recommended, i drink tea & coffee with alternating oils throughout the day. my favorite oils for this are unrefined cold pressed coconut, mct, & cocoa/vanilla mct oil powder. butter is popular for bullet proof coffee but i have never tried it. might not count, but i have thought about trying spinach leaves tossed in extra virgin olive/avocado oil & a little salt when i feel like i *need* something slightly more substantial in my stomach. i don’t think it would hinder the overall effect but there are probably many hardcore fat fasters that would disagree.
@@LilHeartMusic In past videos he has mentioned that the added effects you get from coffee, green tea, and apple cider vinegar outweigh any of the very small negative effects they might have.

yup, you can add a cup of your own excrement to make it tastier if you like 👍

I have not been able to do a 72-hour water-only fast. I was able to fat-fast. Bone broth didn't do anything for me.

I think you can have dry pill supplements and oily supplements. But avoid the chewable and gummy-bear multivitamins. Those have sugar in them.

Always love his videos but would have liked to see more detail, like what a "day in the life" would look like. I don't just want to eat ghee by the spoonful or drink some MCT oil from the bottle. How is it done?
I'm going to do this fast once a month then follow it with a 2 day dry fast , break with his bone broth then protein protocol, going to do this for 4 months then see what happens . I time all of my fasts starting 4 or 5 days before the new moon. For other physical and spiritual reasons. I think this will be interesting

How would you suggest a vegetarian to break fat fast?
Pea protein shake. Thomas recommends in this in his videos on how to break fasts.
Hemp, Pea Protein

I do this but I dont eat my fats in a meal, I take a sip of EVOO or 1 tsp of coconut oil when I feel like I need It, which could be all from 499-800 kcal of fats per day
Please make a video of recipes for fat fasting.
I mix organic coconut oil and caprylic acid and eat some.
Then I drink a coffee.
I'll have ghee later... lol (like he said EVOO etc etc etc)
