The hurricane force winds spread the fire so fast. Branches and fallen trees everywhere. Once my neighbor Will let me know at 4am that hwy 22 was closed off both ways, I wasnt sure whether to stay in our cabin with generator and air purifier trying to reduce smoke exposure for my infant , or go but they said we are staging at mongold and working on getting a helicopter (which I knew from the start wouldn't work) based on the factors of dense smoke ash and high winds 70-90mph. so we packed the van with everything we could grab, our pets and us. And I decided to monitor the fire and situation from Detroit in our van. There was talk by the fireman of getting a plow or bull dozer. To plow our way out to sisters. That fell through and we were left with no other option but to gather at Mongold and make a last stand. I made sure to grab all our lifejackets for just such a scenario. And brought the generator to plug the air purifyer to put in our tent for baby , 7 year old son and my wife. We waited at mongold for hours til about 1 or 2. They said we were going to just spend the night there, so my wife made my neighbor will a Pb & J , we got the dogs out to potty & When just as i was getting ready to set up for the night. The wind kept me from setting up my tent and by Gods grace a way up 46 past brietenbush , past fire on both sides of the hwy, through a backwoods FS road. We ended up in blue skies, at hwy 26. Will be posting a video when im over the shock. Please pray for us and our neighbors! The town ive been coming to since i was 5 , has been destroyed. It is truly suureal and a genuine sign of the times.

I’m from Scotland. I bicycled over the Santiam Pass through Detroit and on to Hood River. I ate at the Cedars Restaurant and camped in the State Park. In places it looked a lot like Scotland. It’s heart breaking to see this town burned to the ground. Hopefully those who have survived will be able and courageous enough to rebuild their community.
Unfortunately, it will never be the same in our lifetime. Most of these devastated communities were originally logging towns. Logging isn't allowed anymore, so towns like Detroit survived on tourism and recreation. Now, that's gone. I encourage everyone who doesn't live in Oregon to look at how beautiful the area of Detroit was, and compare that to what it looks like now.
No, we had a huge windstorm on Monday night through Tuesday that downed a lot of power lines. The wind gusts topped at 65MPH in northern Oregon. In southern Oregon, a dead, possibly homeless, man was found near where the fire started, the dog park in Ashland, with drug paraphernalia. Probably smoking meth, passed out and died, and the pipe set the dry ass grass on fire. It was 4% humidity and 85 degrees there on Monday. Rumors started that Antifa started the fire in Medford and a suspect was arrested, but Medford Police said this is not true on their Twitter feed. Stop buying into the lies being spread. There are downed power lines all over the Portland area; I have one on my street and PGE can't get to them quickly enough. It's been 4 days I it's still down. Also, idiots do stupid things in hot weather. Dumb asses in California started a fire during a gender reveal.
