I did grasp at any straw that I could reach in my hopes for some continual growth in roster-building and team-play. - I don't grasp meaningless straws anymore... - I do not see growth... - I see one good player that is consistently good... - I see another 2 or 3 that show signs of greatness... - But I also see more holes in the roster now than I did last year... - I see a significant step AWAY from the playoffs. - Please... prove me wrong. (Hindsight is always 20/20... I could list different steps I would have taken, in the past, but I can't undo the past... So, - please prove me wrong, when it's playoff season.)
@@cptbluehawk57 the thing is last season even missing the playoffs the team WERE better than the year before by LOADS so Lalonde firing would have made no sense it looked like the team was on the right path. It was the best red wings performance in years surpassing what Blashill had done, however for whatever reason Lalonde became ineffective over the last few months whether that's because the wings lost players or the players stopped believing who knows! I actually think Lalonde's style wasn't suited to this group, players like Walman, Perron, Ghost and others could play more gritty and dump/chase losing them rendered his system weaker with the guys that were left and joined on free agency, this teams roster is about movement, skill and speed which is why McLellan seems to have gotten results early. The ironic thing is though they've shown more grit and been able to bully back more than they did under Lalonde. Yzerman probably hung on hoping it was just a slump while the newer guys adjusted.
They have Chicago, Seattle, and San Jose coming up and all are at home. Could be an eight game winning streak soon.

The team lost Uncle Fester after 10 games of the season. The coaching change should have happened much sooner.

I would have sacked lalonde the first of December. Why wait?
