    This is the BIGGEST dungeon in Dragon of Icespire Peak! Would you have your players divide and conquer, or do you never split the party?

    I like this approach for liveplay: voices over doodles. Keep at it!

      Thanks! I got extra lazy on my last few sketches on this one, but overall I like doing them :)

    I always saw your other videos with tips, this is the first time I see the gameplay ones! they are actually quite fun, I enjoy the drawings haha I'm currently playing this campaign with only 1 player, my 10 year old son haha it's been fun but had to made quite a few changes for the balance and add some nice side kicks but all these videos are always great for preparing the session

      Definitely a different pace from the other quests in here!

    Hey Bob, I love this series! It really helps the content feel more accessible to newer DM's such as myself. It's a lot easier to understand the layout and intentions of the dungeon/monsters if you can see it in action. I do have one critique, however. I understand that you cut bits and pieces here and there to keep the episodes to a manageable length, but I wish you would leave in the person's announcement of the final result. It's a bit jarring to hear "I attack x", and then you hear the dice rolling, but there's never a number announced, and it's just you narrating what happens next. A minor detail, but one that I feel helps with audience immersion. But thank you for what you've created here, I love it! I would love to see you do other series' like this! There's plenty of content within the official adventure books, and you might even look into some of the more popular fan created modules! Keep up the good work, it makes a difference 💙

      Also, as an addendum to this, it would also help if at the start of each player/creature's turn, you would announce the name of whatever party is about to take an action. You're usually pretty good about doing that, but I did notice a few times during this episode that something would happen, and the next bit of audio is whoever went next just immediately jumping into what they're doing for their turn, and it makes it a bit harder to keep track of the combat in my head. Thanks again for making this series, I really love it!

      Interestingly, I like it better this way for immersion. Knowing the roll and knowing the result is often redundant. (Not that it matters 1 year after your comment and 4 years after the video was posted)

    Hi Bob, thanks for your videos. Can I ask, did you give your players the printed map for this dungeon or merely describe rooms and doors? If using a printed map did you reveal it sequentially? Or did you use your sketches during gameplay? Thanks in advance for your response!

    • @BobWorldBuilder
      @BobWorldBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For simplicity’s sake, I gave them a printed player map when they arrived at the dungeon. Though I recommend revealing a map sequentially if you have the prep time for it!

    • @maxwalkerguitar
      @maxwalkerguitar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BobWorldBuilder thanks Bob, I think I'll avoid printing and try to map out each room as they enter it. I need to work on my illustrations though. Yours are great despite their basic style :)

      Max Walker Good plan! And I promise I’m an okay artist, but drawing on a laptop screen is hard, and doing anything more complex would still take me too much time. I can draw pretty well and pretty quickly, but not at the same time lol

    Question? So how are “perception checks” determined as a win or fail? I know 1 is critical fail but if they get like below a certain number they don’t quite see what they were looking for ? Someone told me that was just up to the DM if they got the number they were thinking of or higher but I’m unsure what’s correct for that like if they roll a 6 and below then what?

    • @tally954
      @tally954 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh also >.< forgot so I saw how on person here got a 7 so you said they didn’t quite see anything and you said to roll a I think you said history? So if they fail a perception they can’t re roll again for it it’s only one time or aaah D: so confused I’d love a tutorial video going through these a little more cause I’m a tad bit lost

      Personally it depends on what they want to do. Seeing a shield and want to inspect the logo DC5.
      In the dark seeing a dark spider in the corner DC15. It really depends

      Usually a pre-made adventure like this includes a target DC and what they find if they meet it. You can decide that they learn some of the information on lower rolls, or extra information on high rolls. The key thing is that a low roll shouldn't mean they hit a dead end. You may have to input other potential clues for them to find or encourage them to think outside the box and approach the problem with different methods.

    As I'm watching this I'm eating my grandfather's bread. So... that's an entertaining coincidence. Which means I'm obligated to state: Clearly neither of you have ever tried my grandfather's bread. =]

    This sounded so much fun. I'm really keen for my group to reach this quest now!
    Out of curiosity, you obviously edit out parts for presentation purposes, I'm wondering - how long did your session actually take?
    My group are about to visit Mountain's Toe, I'm excited to RP Don-Jon! I'll also use your simplified layout of the mine, but I'm wondering what to replace the Goggles of Night with that might be more useful, as my whole party has dark vision - any suggestion that might tie in well from your experience?

    • @BobWorldBuilder
      @BobWorldBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It was fun! I'm glad you asked because this was the most edited session yet: ~2 hrs down to ~35 minutes. Most of that is pausing to clarify things about the map or the rules, but many little pauses between rolling and saying the result get cut out. I would say 2 hrs was still fairly quick even for two players.
      As for the magic item, the goggles of night will still add 60 MORE feet of darkvision to whatever they have, but you could enhance them: for 1 minute once per day they can use the detect magic spell or grant 30 feet of blind sight or true sight. Any of those would really help against the invisible stalker in Dragon Barrow, and the true sight would reveal the half orc shapechangers if they try to appear in boar form. Outside of that, magic items should usually be tailored to your players' character classes. Some items will be much more useful than others!
