    I remember buying this masterclass when it came out. Let me just express a little bit of self-awareness by saying that a good number of the topics he discussed were over my head. And that's not a knock on him or the content of the class, but rather a realization that this master class is not for the beginner or even intermediate musician. The beginner/intermediate player might get some useful tips out of it, but this is very much for the musician who has already some very solid understanding of advanced music theory. If you don't fully understand modes and have advanced competence on the bass, then you won't get what you paid for. Though as someone else has mentioned on here, if you already have a solid understanding of what he's talking about in his masterclass, then you probably didn't need it anyway. I guess it'll serve as an inspirational guide and a quick glance at his approach to music, but that's it.

    PEACE

    Hadrien is a very talented bass guitarist, that's clear. It's interesting that so many good bass players are playing the kind of jazzy scales/notes he plays although maybe not all as well as he does! I started playing the bass in 1974 when I was just thirteen and listened to rock players like John Paul Jones, Ken Whaley (from MAN) John Anderson (from Charlie), Greg Lake, Chris Squire and especially Martin Turner from Wishbone Ash, who is a fabulous player! (Check out the Wishbone Ash tracks Sorrel and Sometime World). I first saw Stanley Clarke play in 1976 with Return to Forever on TV and I was AMAZED!!!! I started using two fingers instead of one after that!!!! Stanley was probably my biggest influence as a teenage bass player and I made up my mind to try and play as fast as he could!!!! LOL He had a rocky edge I loved too! I admired Jeff Berlin and Jaco Pastorius for their talent and ability but their playing/notes didn't really inspire me like Stanley's did! It's good to see so many really great young bass players on TH-cam and Hadrien is certainly one of them!

    I bought this masterclass a couple of weeks ago, and this is my view on it :
    Hadrien is an incredible player with a unique sens of melody, musical lines and harmonisation....That is, indeed, something unarguable. His technique is also almost perfect.
    However, I think that this particular masterclass is not, IMO, a good purchase.
    We don't learn alot from this video.....Hadrien is a guy that spend probably, I think, most of his time playing music, and not speaking about it in a really serious and "drilled" manner. And this is a good thing, because there's not alot of musicians like this these days....Musicians that spend more time working on their music then trying to sell lessons, t-shirt, etc, or just speaking more about what they play instead of playing it....So I found his way of communicating his knowledge quite confusing....I know, english is not his first language, but beyond that, the way he explain his idea is not clear, not at all at some points.
    Moreover, there's no exercices in this video, he don't explain his technique, he don't illustrate in a clear way how he does the connection between chords, he almost never slow down when he show one of his incredible "licks"... So we have to slow down the video to transcribe his stuff.....The subjects are also explained very quickly......
    IMO, we don't get much more than what we can find on youtube about this player......We actually find more stuff on YT than in that masterclass......
    Not a single thing to say about his playing, but I found this "lesson video" not worth it and I felt the need to share it before someone buy it with too much expectation.

    • @PGeorge61
      @PGeorge61 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Sargent Hartman Hey Sarge! There are many bassists out there right now that are better than Jaco. Jaco's brilliance was that he was doing this stuff 40 years ago! The shit just poured from his head to his fingers. Kids these days are growing up with tabs, and the ability to watch, and pause videos to see what the player is doing. If you can keep a beat, and have a good ear, you can tale a few hours and watch a video 50 times to see what it took the "artist" days or weeks to build. I know that's an exageration. But, you see where I'm going. A good deal of talent needs to be there already. But these kids today have a huge edge over what we all had back in the 60's and 70's!

    • @JayBeeBass
      @JayBeeBass 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +PGeorge61 what does "better" mean?...if the music is just a bunch of fast notes...what does that mean...if it doesn't have the "feeling'... it means nothing to me!...jb

    • @Le_Tchouck
      @Le_Tchouck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +JayBeeBass
      This music isn't "simple" but there is an intention behind the notes, and the feeling you might get is the one the artist puts in his music. If it's not random, I think there's always a feeling, even if not everyone can catch it with the first listen.
      And I don't pretend I can. Some music tracks/artists/styles took me years to appreciate because my musical knowledge, perception and taste keep evolving.
      If you don't like something, it's ok. We can't all like everything.
      Maybe someday you'll change your mind, (or realise that your mind has changed by itself) and it will feel good.

    • @JayBeeBass
      @JayBeeBass 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Le Tchouck ...Hello and hi !.....there was only one Jaco...only one Mingus, Parker, Coltrane , Miles, James Brown, Chubby Checker etc. ...we only get one...one who shows us something not seen before...maybe because I am soooo old school I can't relate, but Mr. Feraud doesn't impress me as a bass player...for me he is more like a guitar player...where is the bottom...I don't need to be impressed...I want to "feel" it...playing rapidly just to play that way means what? ...all of this territory has been explored...what do have that is new here..i want to hear the next...not the before (old)..but, I loved your comment! jb

    This is a pretty terrible masterclass video tbh. I love Hadrien as a bassplayer, but this masterclass is basically just him showing his incredible chops without much (or any) context and him talking about music. It's not what I expected. He for instance tells about how he approaches chord changes or transcribed piano solo's and then plays some amazing licks with the speed of light. I doubt anyone except already amazing players can even follow half of what he's doing.
