Nice job! Great seeing my hood! I live on the other side of that large blue boat in Cudjoe Gardens. A couple of points from an old Captain who’s “been there, done that”. Slip on a dead man switch and wear a PFD next time you’re alone or with someone who can’t handle a boat. Sets a good example for your novice viewers and could save your ass one day.
I would like to see more in depth how you approach tight docking with a current and wind. This is the most stressful part for with a single engine outboard. I enjoy watching your expertise 😊
Man I’m not big a PFD guy myself but at those speeds and solo, why not? I guess we have more logs, rocks and shoals on the Pacific Northwest. Either way, great video I love the content. Stay safe. Cheers from Canada 🍻
Great video! One thing I want to add is with all your safety gear (which is great) I can't understand why you're not wearing an inflatable PFD? Especially when you are all by yourself. I'm certain it's not because of he the cost. I'm 67 YO and I'm sure I've spent a few more days out on the water than you have and I'm guilty of the same thing. I learned much later in life how important wearing a PFD device is. Way too many things can happen that are simply out of your control The prepared boater is the one most likely to make it back alive. Get yourself one. There are some fantastic choices and models out there now-a-days. It's like seat belts... after awhile you won't even know you're wearing one.
It's been a couple decades ago, but I left out of Crystal River to take my bosses 38' Pacemaker to Key West for the Month, so he could fly down on weekends to fish during July! Id left at sunrise with a favorable tide and just before dusk got a weather report saying a skull was expected. We were off Venice Inlet, where I had grown up (Venice Nokomis) when it started blowing and the seas got pretty large in minutes, there were 3 of us because I wanted to run around the clock, but it was getting hard to stay on course. The auto pilot was overpowered and we were really catching hell so I dropped the hook. Within 10 to 15 minutes we were all on the sole, the best way to describe what we went through would be to like it to bring picked up 3 to 4 ft and dropped every few seconds and that squall, turned into.an all night body bashing. Weather had said it'd be severe but short squall, that it was not large and moving quickly so I believed it'd only be fifteen to twenty minutes, but it went on all night. We couldn't get up, we couldn't walk around, we were stuck splayed out on the sole. We were all healthy and in great shape but the beating we took, lack of sleep, meant when the storm subsided, it was early morning and the sun was up, but we all slept for several hours. Got up around noon and did a systems check on all equipment, checked for leaks and headed out. When we got to Key West Bight Marina it took a day and a half to get the boat back in shape. Pacemakers are very overbuilt so the hull looked new, everything else! Brackets, cabinet hinges and latches, the Port lights that opened and closed, it'd be quicker to tell you what didn't need fixed! Anyway, I can't count the number of times I've been to Key West, but I've never been by Car, and that trip, was worse than all other trips combined!
Love the video. I am in different part of the country, so like hearing / learning about navigating the waters you are going through. Different rules of the road in the area, etc. Also, how you are handling boat traffic as you encounter (not much on this trip), especially if commercial.
Beautiful day in the Bay today!!! Definitely lied and they still get to keep their jobs!! Went up the river and back to the Alafia. Flat out all day! Windy is a pretty dang good app. Usually my go to app since Irma.
Haaa.... Got some of us thinking when the guy said clear waters.... I wonder if those houses are on septic tank or do they have a sewer system in the keys.... Interesting.... Being that wealthy people are the ones living in the keys for the most part I'm going to assume it has a sewer system and the water being so clear like the guy said, I think it is safe to say yep sewer system
As a former FMP officer, I have run solo from Miami to Key West. Have to ask why on. Solo run, with AP driving, you would not wear a PFD? Seems like a safe thing to do?
I think I reached out before, but I live in Madeira Beach and would love to help out any time and not greedy, just enjoy being on the water, and think I could learn some larger vessel things from you, especially if your good at engineering! Please reach out anytime! Let me know and can send my CV! Keep up the great videos!
Can you tell me what data you have set up on your Garmin engine function screen? I saw a lot of data there and would like to copy what you have. A screenshot would be helpful. Thanks-
I’ll try to find you one. Most of that screen was fuel burn, RPM, speed, Time and Distance to Destination. The “vessel” screen can be customized by holding down those data points and arranging them to your liking.
First off you didn't offer us sea sick meds. Do a pip of chart as you go so we can see the progress of the trip. Not like we can see a tree go by. Dream job ?

Enjoyed every minute. I cruise a local river in my boat, things to learn and reapply every ride.
Awesome ride-a-long ! Haven't done that since 1993 😢 Thanks for waking a good memory
Thanks for the ride .
I have made that same trip from Sarasota to KW several time and I agree with everything you said. Good job Capt.
Really enjoyed that "short" trip. You have the life man. Thankful you share some of it with us through your posts. Happy New Year 2025!
Thank you for all the details with the navigation. I learn a lot from your videos.
Show more of the GPS info. How to use it and how certain things are beneficial more than others. And ViceVersa. Show more feet. =)

Great video thanks for sharing. Just subscribed. Happy and healthy new year to you and your family
A weatherman... the only job that you can be wrong 50% of the time and still have a job. Nice vid!

And a kill switch. A dunk in the water offshore could get real lonely.
Love these videos, pretty informative and I’ve learned a lot from you! Keep them coming, thank you Capt.
I would gladly crew for you. The trip and the knowledge gained is priceless for someone who only gets out rarely. Cheers from We the North!

nice run!
I would like to see you post more about shallow water operations.
My buddy’s in the marina you left out of, in fact I’m 99% sure I know the boat (I love that hull color). That’s a solid ride! Beautiful sled.
Blackfin has gotten a bad rap, after this i'd buy this boat in a minute thanks for the ride. ps never gotten seaksick on the trip lol
I'd be interested in seeing the route around Florida bay across to the Keys.
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there.....🎶😅
But he was headed south bound

Used to rig for BF back in late 80’s. They sure have changed.
Are you traveling solo and if so leaving the cockpit and being on pilot is kinda risky no ?
Vest Up brother. The auto inflation Mustang is comfortable under your hoodie.
Thanks for the ride
Doesn’t look like much passing room in the channels. What do you do for oncoming traffic?
There is just enough room to pass another center console. More room than you would think.
good job, captain
6:55 Not bad 1.1 @ 40 I'm getting 1.1 statute mpg in a 39 SeaVee at 34 mpg with trip 350 Suzuki. At 40 it's probably .095 mpg
Great video
Good video captain. I always learn the important things. With all the prep you do, why not a life jacket to wear especially on a solo trip?
@@RobertMelody-y3h probably because he can swim? Or, it’s hot out there and a life jacket is miserable to wear?
Or better, he’s an adult.
safe travels boss
That's some beautiful run! About a $1K on gas, at around 50gph?
Happy Holidays and to a healthy 2025
$500-600 bucks burned I believe
@thecaptainscoach
Thank you, and have a great New Year.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Fun ride along!
no point having three comunication devices if you drowned because you didnt have a life jacket on and was knocked out when you hit the water!

Got a nice rig to do it with.
Would t it be easier to trailer it?
Just wondering how you got home it.Be nice if you could have bring a boat back and made money both ways
Your MFDs will show the Tides, pull up the closest station. Better than using an app
Most important equipment as a solo boater are your life preserver attached to the kill switch. Please send the example for others to follow.
Experience also can mean over confidence which I posit you suffer from by not wearing basic PPE.
@@AndrewTa530 what life preserver? His arms?
Your good
I'm often just like you - i have no idea of what's going on.

Need life jacket by yourself, never know
Why not just trailer it down? Any reason for the long ride thru the water?
It’s actually much easier by water to the Keys than trailer with that size of boat. Traffic, Cops in the Keys. Much more stressful.
Life jacket epirb etc
Which tide app?
“Tides”
I wanna know what these clients do to make all this money!!!
