Clash of Clans is still going strong to this very day. That and Boom Beach also has animated commercials that gives the characters more personality, especially what they did with Hog Rider and Dr. T.
I think the point about dedicated players is completely fair. A lot of Clash of Clans players have been playing for a very long time, and are less likely to quit. I feel like new players who are just getting the game are not nearly as likely to stick with it. Probably why there's not a ton of growth anymore.
In CoC rushing is actually a pretty viable strategy, a lot of folks make a couple of alts n rush them to act as donation accts or to try out specific strategies. With the QoL updates you can reach th12-13-14 in 6 months rushing
The game has reduced upgrade times over the years and increased ways to get loot. Magic items, clan raids, etc. The game is better than it ever was, but I will admit there is something nostalgic thinking about when TH10 was the max level and global chat was still out. They need to bring back global chat.
They removed global chat for a reason, it wasn't an accident. They removed it because it had a problem of people getting personal information or grooming.
Nah global chat made it more popular, when u add too much restrictions to a particular thing it becomes dead, watch the social platforms they're completely ruined
I started playing clash of clans again last year, i went from TH10 to a TH11, and from my experience it is much dead-er than in it's prime (when i started), but it's still decently alive. I will say tho, since the global chat has been taken away, the game feels more isolated and so it makes it harder to see, meet or talk to other active players. And it also makes it hard to actually guage how dead or alive the player base actually is
It’s still well and Alice trailers on their main channel still garner millions of views and just take a look at judo sloths views a coc creator almost a million every vid
I have an idea Instead of saying "what killed the ___ franchise" you could name it "is the ___ franchise really dead?" Because the last 2 videos from this series I have watched has had an ending where it wasn't really dead, and changing the title would feel a bit less clickbait-y, even though I do enjoy the content you post But hey that's just my opinion Edit: when the hell did I get 100 likes
That's fair, what killed was always just the name of my take on the "Rise and Fall" format, the titles are simply branding to get people to watch the documentaries as when they're more obvious people are less likely to watch (Trust me, I've tried). I'll keep it the same for now but if I do more videos with the "it didn't really die" vibe i'll switch so that it would work better overall, but having one video of five be called something with completely different branding and formatting just doesn't look nice, and at the end of the day the content of the video matters a whole lot more than the title, so getting one that gets views is more important to get people to see the actual message.
"Its 2013 and you have nothing to do so you decide to download this new hot game your friend keeps telling you about. You were amazed by his base so you decide to make your own" don't you remember?
In my opinion, clash of clans REVOLUTIONIZED mobile gaming as a whole, despite not being that much talked anymore, it still has an up and running player base, as a CoC player myself, the game itself is fun, despite the long upgrade waits in high town hall levels, Clash of clans is still alive, is just not as known in the internet as it used to.
Not reallly revolutionized, just made a trend. Coc itself made no groundbreaking elements besides its predatory monetization scheme. Ironically, games recently like genshin impact have dramatically raised the bar on what mobile games are capable of.
It's dead mainly because around 70% lost their old accounts and their support won't even help recovering it. People spend money on their game, why can't they even make a small effort to recover it
This is the only "what killed" video i disagree with. These games still have millions of players, and active eSports communities. They aren't dead, what are you high on?
It's not dead, just isn't in the limelight anymore and prolly never will be, 2016-2018 is the peak I think. I still play it with random clans, but there was a time when all of my Bros played it, now it's just me. It's just a F2P chill game for me. We don't take War and Clan games seriously

I feel like a major factor to COC being less popular nowadays is the fact that after town hall 11, the game becomes exponentially harder. You can’t spawn lightnings and dragons and get away with it anymore and it requires actual meta armies to be used at a chance of doing relatively well. For the casual player base, a majority of people have busy lives such as jobs, school sports, etc. They don’t have time to spend hours practicing attacks, they just want to get on, upgrade something, attack once or twice and go on with their day.
No it works at most Town Hall levels and in most league's. Even in masters league. But it won't work in champions, as champions league is nearly all dedicated pros. And that's fine, you don't need to be in the highest league to have fun or progress quickly.

I've argue its the magic items that provide insane value to a player to the point that Engineered Rushing a base (This means upgrading All collectors, Barracks, Storages and Laboratory to unlock all troops including super): can take up to two years to fully max out. The game is still very pay to win, at least in the competitive scene. This is because a player who gems to max once an update starts has more time to test out the new content and see what does/doesn't work.

Clash of Clans still has a very large loyal player base. Those who played in the early days, still plays it. More importantly, you don't spend too much time to play this. If you are busy, you can play this game once or twice a day for 20 mins at a time and still make progress. Weekends too. Newer younger players also have a hook as its not that hard to grow from the beginning. Removal of global chat is the only thing that hampered games popularity
Clash of clans isnt dead, the thing that is dying is clash royale with the recent updates 💀 Also, i find clash of clans is more just paying to progress faster, you cant technically use it to win since you usually get matched up to people of similar levels (town hall usually) Clash royale is 100% p2w, as the interactions matter so much in the game. People upgrade cards so fast that it forces you to try to upgrade ur cards faster, usually resulting in paying money.
Tbh I'd like to see a video on what killed Jurassic Park Builder, since it's another early 2010's game that got slowly moydured over time by sequels and such
Imo the part where you said adding new content makes the players more intimidated on the game and saying the game now takes years to fully max out your base is quite untrue since supercell adjust the building time of each TH everytime they add a new one keeping the length of time to have a fully maxed base consistent
I remember when I was small, I was only exposed to the story amd level-based games like Shadow Fight, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc which had an ending. So when I heard of Clash of Clans, I would always get confused and ask my friends who played it at the time as to "When does the game end?", and got shocked when I heard it would never end. Because 10 year old me felt it wasn't possible for a game to not end. Like, I legit thought that Temple Run and Subway Surfers would end after some running! So, it was kind of a shocker for me.
The main reason Clash of clans dwindled out is that Supercell, at the peak of the game, did not release new content for a huge gap in their peak era. Town hall 10 through Town hall 11 was the peak of the game but updates were few from what I only imagine being because they believe the game was so successful that they found the ultimate balance, which quickly backfired since they later found out they have peaked. Nowadays, these town hall levels feel like you are barely starting the game. I've actually replayed clash of clans starting last year and I think the game is way more fun than it used to be due to all the new content such as Clan Capital and Magic Items that help patch out a rushed base.
The removal of global chat ruined it for me. I understand why they did it and support the decision. But man was it fun to dick around and chat with people while waiting for my troops to finish being made. Would legit spend hours just talking in chat
Anyone who complains about not having a Global Chat Must be friendless, Or just abit weird... The game is massive and you'rr worried about missing out on some Random Chat? Lmao
@@Eggzy-b7f I don’t play clash of clans anymore. Me and my friends go out and hangout. We rarely ever play mobile games together. Clash of clans was something I’d play to pass the time during highschool, sometimes you just wanna chat with people while your troops are being made. Also met some dope ass people and clans from that chat. Hella nostalgia from middle school to highschool days. It was much more than just some “Random Chat”. If anything this tells me you never experienced it
“What killed the clash of clans franchise” These games are still going, especially clash royale which I’m still hearing conversations about, supercell has made popular and long lasting mobile games and I respect em for that
I still remember when TH10 took many many many months to max. Now, it probably takes about a month or two (depending on how the user plays). Getting to the new stuff is faster today, but more is coming faster so…
it takes around 5-6 months if u have 5 builders But since supercell made it so easy to get resources and magical items if u use those properly u can max th10 in 3-4 months and this is free to Play With gold pass it's 1.5 month's
I came back to the game after 3 years away and I noticed that it’s much faster to upgrade now They are now more generous in giving you items that upgrades things instantly as well as giving us an extra builder However I have noticed that most of the clans out there only have half of the players actually active, with the rest either semi active or not at all
What makes coc fun are the strategies Imo. It's fun to strategize and very rewarding if that strategizing pays of with a three star. Most people don't strategize but only care about upgrades and getting strong fast. They end up rushing and using edrag spam. The game is not only about upgrading buildings fast and p2w. Strategizing is so fun.
I played because of Klaus tbh, I agree with you. People just want to rush too much which I can understand why , it unlocks a lot more cool stuffs but IMO CoC is a game that is meant to be played casually on the side
I have researched the Clash of Clans Clone games, I have Twenty-two examples, and almost all of them have their servers permanently shut down as of today. Only two remain alive: DomiNations, and Castle Clash. And both are suffering from "Feature creep" (the game has too many features and too much content)
I agree with this. I remember paying a lot of money on DomiNations because I downloaded it on a GameTame offer. I got addicted for months then stopped playing.
Clash Of Clan as a F2P player can be very chill if you are busy and dont have much time to spend daily, thanks to the upgrades taking days you only have to login once or twice a day to do 4-6 attacks and slowly fill your storages while the builder takes 10 days to finish upgrading a canon
What I really love about COC is when I met new people by joining to new created clans where I became the co leader. I've found my clan from the global chat, I am just a low TH that time and I became a Co Leader whereas one Co Leader was so upset for me being a co leader. It was so fun when the leader defended me. I was into the game because my relationship to that player. I learned a lot from him etc. Until I stopped playing COC for a year then I've found out that he also stop playing. It was sad and I found new freind with a new clan. He is also the Co Leader and I've learned a lot from him and I constantly recieved donations. Unfortunately I stopped again, when I decided to play COC again for almost 2 years. I was super upset! When Global Chat is not available anymore. I couldn't find new freind and clan.. Basically Supercell don't want players to buy and sell an account. They wanted players to spend gems or money to create new account and upgrade very fast. Unlike other online games, global chat is a nuisance, but for COC it's damn part of my gaming experience that is one of the best mechanic that the COC had.
How ironic is it that it started to be way more active prior to the realizing of this video, man I wish clash of clans wasn't so p2w, nonetheless, it is a remarkably optimized game overall. I am glad I subscribed to your cahnel, when you posted that "Swordigo is a Forgotten Masterpiece ",video.
CoC isn't p2w, not at all. It's the most f2p friendly game out there because the only advantage it gives you is simply saving you time. You won't be able to dominate noobs because it only matches you with players ±1 th lvl of your. And getting raided less isn't that big of a deal
I would recommend watching this video on 1.25 speed. This dude probably slowed down the speed of the video. 1.25 sounds even more natural to me and it saves you time.
I remember grinding Clash Royale and Clash Of Clans with my cousin literally every day and night. I have so amazing memories of this game, it's crazy. Also, the Clash games are definetely not dead, neither have they been killed, it's just that the hype that the games had died down. The games still have a good playerbase tho P.S. T3rr0r never disappoints with his vids fr
I hate these types of videos blaming video game companies for a decrease in popularity. Supercell is one of the better gaming companies who listen to what their players want, just look at the brawl stars team, saying they wouldn’t rework a feature until 2023 but reworking it early because the players wanted it so much. And clash of clans isn’t dead. It gets quarterly updates. These types of videos are so stupid lol.
My Top Reason for Playing CoC is because I've been playing a FB game called Backyard Monsters and it's basically that but improved on in every possible way though I do wish CoC took that one defence structure from BM where you put limited space for troops in a Bunker and the troops in it will defend Ur base though in hindsight that's just how the Clan Castle works now.
If by the “Clash of Clans franchise” you mean Supercell games, then they really aren’t dead. Brawl Stars is huge, and Clash Royale isn’t really that bad either

Clash royale is 100% p2w, as the interactions matter so much in the game. People upgrade cards so fast that it forces you to try to upgrade ur cards faster, usually resulting in paying money.
3 day wait for a building construction made me quit in 3 months
Coc is timeless it will never be completely dead, many people still play it but most are pretty old at this point
Tbh I'd like to see a video on what killed Jurassic Park Builder, since it's another early 2010's game that got slowly moydured over time by sequels and such
They killed the game when they killed global chat. It’s impossible to find an active clan.
Did I actually just get a clash of clans ad while watching this 💀
I did too-
Imo the part where you said adding new content makes the players more intimidated on the game and saying the game now takes years to fully max out your base is quite untrue since supercell adjust the building time of each TH everytime they add a new one keeping the length of time to have a fully maxed base consistent
1) He said that near the end of the video
2) It's still around 4 years of constant playing with using every free magic item possible
@@BLET_55artem55 Simple its because.....
CoC is meant to be played casually on the side
Before 2016 clash of clans had a special place in my heart, now in 2023 the game feels like its missing something like (cough cough) og farming.
The removal of global chat completely ruined the game for me
i am deeply saddened i was sleeping when this video was uploaded :( edit: like allways a great t3rr0r video
I still remember the good ol days of leaving the game open on my phone for hours so I don't get attacked cause my storages are full.. Fun times indeed
Man imagine if they dig up their own grave by banning small content creators for criticism.
They would never.
Google Trends doesn’t show the amount of active players in COC or CR because they are Mobile Games not Flash Games
It's not dead, it just stagnated
back in the day, i thought the company was SUP ERC ELL
I remember when I was small, I was only exposed to the story amd level-based games like Shadow Fight, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc which had an ending. So when I heard of Clash of Clans, I would always get confused and ask my friends who played it at the time as to "When does the game end?", and got shocked when I heard it would never end. Because 10 year old me felt it wasn't possible for a game to not end. Like, I legit thought that Temple Run and Subway Surfers would end after some running! So, it was kind of a shocker for me.
Hilariously, got a COC ad before this plays.

The laughing emoji is crucial for the title of a video or it gets no views
The removal of global chat ruined it for me. I understand why they did it and support the decision. But man was it fun to dick around and chat with people while waiting for my troops to finish being made. Would legit spend hours just talking in chat
Anyone who complains about not having a Global Chat
Must be friendless, Or just abit weird...
If anything this tells me you never experienced it
“What killed the clash of clans franchise”
These games are still going, especially clash royale which I’m still hearing conversations about, supercell has made popular and long lasting mobile games and I respect em for that
I still remember when TH10 took many many many months to max. Now, it probably takes about a month or two (depending on how the user plays). Getting to the new stuff is faster today, but more is coming faster so…
it takes around 5-6 months if u have 5 builders
But since supercell made it so easy to get resources and magical items if u use those properly u can max th10 in 3-4 months and this is free to Play
With gold pass it's 1.5 month's
babe wake up, new T3rr0r vid just dropped
Love ur videos and btw would you mind to make a video about dumb ways to die? This is the 1000th time im requesting this
I’ve had it on the list for a few months now but it’s pretty far down at the moment.
The fact I'm watching this while getting Hayday, Clash royale and clash of clans ads
would’ve been still playing if i didn’t lose my decade old account
oof. I nearly lost mine but was able to recover my email. Now have a Supercell ID to ensure I never lose it again.
Quite ironic how I got a minute long Clash of Clans advert at the start of the video
I came back to the game after 3 years away and I noticed that it’s much faster to upgrade now
They are now more generous in giving you items that upgrades things instantly as well as giving us an extra builder
However I have noticed that most of the clans out there only have half of the players actually active, with the rest either semi active or not at all
That's bc after town hall 10 everything cost 10 days to upgrade... Why tf would I be online constantly when everything takes DAYS to upgrade?
@@coggear1135 im talking proper inactivity though
No league shield for several weeks
thanks a lot for linking the songs used. i was looking for that skeleton song

@@whyvern6817 Yeah I totally agree with you. I also used to be a casual rushed edrag player.
I love how I got multiple ads for clash of clans on this video advertising it was the best game in 2016… currently 8 years ago
I have researched the Clash of Clans Clone games, I have Twenty-two examples, and almost all of them have their servers permanently shut down as of today. Only two remain alive:
DomiNations, and Castle Clash.
And both are suffering from "Feature creep" (the game has too many features and too much content)
I agree with this. I remember paying a lot of money on DomiNations because I downloaded it on a GameTame offer. I got addicted for months then stopped playing.

when was clash dead?
Clash Of Clan as a F2P player can be very chill if you are busy and dont have much time to spend daily, thanks to the upgrades taking days you only have to login once or twice a day to do 4-6 attacks and slowly fill your storages while the builder takes 10 days to finish upgrading a canon
what killed the coc franchise 💀
5 years later
What killed what lived?
Answer is nothing if a game isnt popular as before doesnt make that game dead
Nothing has killed it bro still super popular I think it’s just not spoken of like before
What I really love about COC is when I met new people by joining to new created clans where I became the co leader.
Clicking this video to know why coc failed and then coc ad is playing 😂😂
Franchise? CoC was a single fucking game, not a franchise.
@¿po!uarad and for trophy pushing you can get literally 3500 gems
@Hal 9000 I know, and I like the game, but the structure of the game is made to be pay to win, because It would literally take you 8-10yeaes to max.

The games still have a good playerbase tho
P.S. T3rr0r never disappoints with his vids fr
Found it ironic I got a clash of clans ad when I clicked on the video ngl
I hate these types of videos blaming video game companies for a decrease in popularity. Supercell is one of the better gaming companies who listen to what their players want, just look at the brawl stars team, saying they wouldn’t rework a feature until 2023 but reworking it early because the players wanted it so much. And clash of clans isn’t dead. It gets quarterly updates. These types of videos are so stupid lol.
TERROR PLSS PLSS TELL ME WHY IS THERE A 3D SQUID WITH ITS MOUTH OPEN IM WATCHING THIS AT 2:20am AND IS CREEPING ME OUT😭
the player’s halls became too strong, and i was playing just for fun but after hall 9 the game became too hard to play and just not fun to play
True. One of the main reasons I quit is because it just got too complex
T3rr0r I love u and ur videos + perasocail relationship obtained
wdym ? its still a thriving game
For me this game died when they removed global 🙃 many friends left the game , abandoning clans 😭
Coc is still going well
