I was there at the top of the mountain, I don’t remember if it was Bartlett or Martin, but the front wheel of one of the open wheelers Touched the rear wheel of the other. When I saw the front of the rear open wheeler lift up into the air , I thought it was coming over the fence and I took cover. It was scary at the time
Note the well placed trees and telegraph poles. Bill Brown spinning then in 1969 he flipped just further up the hill and in 71 he rolled on the fence at McPhillamy Park..
Absolutely remarkable viewing which should be compsulory for modern day Bathurst fans. Make note of the real Skyline as it was with the view over the Plains.
I think I've seen that this site is run by a couple of good blokes. I can't thank you enough for posting these. Absolutely fascinating. Watching from Oxford UK.
"Bartlett tried a daring pass at McPhillamy but pulled back". I'm not surprised, it looked like if he didn't he would have clipped the tree and in those cars that could easily have turned fatal.
Lots of Open Wheel drivers back then used to sit on the wide rear tyres . I remember Denny Hulme doing just that at Sandown Park just that in 1967 at the Tasman Series meeting.
The Repco V8 was initially a 3.0 litre engine . I am sure it did not appear in the Gold Star series until 1967. I have seen photos of early Repco V8’s with 4 Weber Carburetors before Fuel Injection was fitted . Again my understanding is these units were for development of the engine . My uncle did tell me that the engine’s main designer Phil Irving was a whiz with setting up Weber Carburettor’s . What would have been interesting is how good this engine would have been if Repco had money to properly develop it in 1967. The units certainly look well made but lacked the detail finish of the Cosworth ( Ford) engines fitted to the 1968 Tasman Lotus 49’s.
I knew KB was pretty good but didn't know he was that good. Impressive.

10:19 - The Stewart Broadspeed GT has been restored and made its competition debut at Eastern Creek in mid-2016.
Thanks for that info
Is that an FJ holden in there as well ? I would speculate that 179 ci motor in the EH was hitched to a 3 speed manual .

No cement walls or sand traps back then.💪
Big weekend for KB
kB looked the same in 1982
I saw him last year - he still looks good.
Interesting... but pretty crappy music....
