Haiti speaks French but there’s areas in Haiti where polish is the “official” language. This is because during the Haitian revolution there were polish soldiers who defected from the Napoleon’s Army and joined the revolution. In the Haitian constitution the polish are considered Haitian.

Regarding the non-spanish speaking Caribbean, there is a nice piece of trivia regarding the island of Saint Martin.
It's an island shared by bother France and the Netherlands and it constitute the only shared border between these two European countries.
That island that had volcano eruption and the city of Plymouth became abandoned, I think it’s Montserrat 🇲🇸 they speak English there. Can’t wait to explore that dream location

I thought I knew all of the official languages in the caribbean but TIL that the official language of some of the former dutch islands is "Papiamento" a creole of Portugese!
There should be MORE devastating events (post large wars, etc). The 30 years war annihilated much of Europe setting almost all rural areas back decades if not a century. Province devastation mechanic is too weak. Thanks for the video and looking forward to the 5k likes!

Belize is officially English speaking. I had a visit there recently! Amazing to stay on the island of caye caulker. Would recommend everytime. Other places in Belize have a post slavery kind of vibe though. Used to be sugarplantations.

Xhosa, in addition to being a province, is also the name of a language; in the Xhosa tongue "X" denotes a click consonant: specifically, a lateral click. raise your tongue so that the sides of your tongue make contact with your back teeth, and then pull your tongue back rapidly to make a click sound.

When I was in Saint Martin, like half of the island spoke French because it was a French colony and the other half was a Dutch colony. And honestly, it was pretty interesting how different the vibes were like you could tell the French cultural influences on the French half. Like dogs were allowed in restaurants on the French half, but not the Dutch half. I could be misremembering because it was a lot of years ago, but it’s very gorgeous there I would really recommend it.

I'm writing a research paper about Hubert Harrison, a black socialist in the early 20th century in America. He was born in Saint Croix, a slave colony of Denmark. Unfortunately there aren't very many Danish records of their exploits in the Caribbean but the story in Saint Croix is quite interesting.

been to anguilla, british and american virgin islands and st.maarten/st.martin in march this year. and puerto rico as a spanish speaking country. lovely area of the world.

From the durch there's Aruba and Curacao, from the French besides Haiti there's Martinique and Guadalupe and finally the British had Belize, Bermuda, the Bahamas, St Kits & Nevis, Trimidad and Tobago, Jamaica and the Virgin islands. In addition there were some shortlived colonization attempts from other countries like Scotland in the Darien (panama)and the Danish close to Puerto Rico. That would be all if we concentrate in the central american parts
the dutch still have the netherlands' antilles, so they also speak ditch there
Didn't see this in the comments, but I might have missed it. Xhosa is pronounced with a click sound. They are one of the largest ethnic groups here. The language used in the Black Panther movies for Wakanda is Xhosa, incase anyone wonders what it sounds like.
Of course we should remember the Virgin Islands, divided between a British colony and a former Danish colony wich was later sold to the US
Ludi is the first foreigner I have heard spelling "ç" correctly as a S sound (from ordenanças).
We also use "Ç" word (Turkish) but matter of fact, there is also a "Ç" sound in English too. Just not a word...

Lubi, did you notice you can form Trading Cities with 0 settlers? Just found out while waiting for my colonist to arrive. Stay until they arrive, click form Trading City, finish. Used this bug in my Ibadi Andalusian run and it was fun. You will become the leading faith in no time, whole africa converted in my game.

Tobago was first a colony of the duchy of Courland (Vassal of the PLC), which all great colonizers struggled to colonize. After it was colonized, all natives have been given normal citizenships, just as the settlers. Later after duke Jacob's arrest, the colony was taken by the Dutch.

I’m currently doing my Portugal run similar to this one. However Spain who used to be my friend broke alliances and declared war on me. Same with France, UK and now the ottomans. I fend them off with my superior navy, peace them out, but as soon as the truce is up, they declare again. I’ve done nothing to piss them off but I have -200 relations because they want my land. Any suggestions?

I think the main reason Portugal is so strong in the colonial game this patch are the increased internal problems of Castile and external issues for England. There isnt much competition.
The only country in Central America that doesn't primarily speak Spanish is Belize, who's official language is English. However, many Belizians do speak Spanish as their primary language, as well as a smattering of Creole, and other native languages.

All the love for my fellow non-Spanish speakers around América, however I can speak much more confidently of South America, there's French Guyana, Surinam and Brazil 💪 Although, all the love to all of my neighbours and long-distance central American neighbours, we have the best food in the planet for sure. Playing Inca (Cuzco) I got 5 colonists by 1520 +/- and also same tech as the colonisers. Somehow Spain, Portugal and others (Denmark+Scotland+France+England in my game)do not defend their colonies so everything in central and northern americas can be annexed with colonialism CB and many provinces giving no overextension... could also annex whole portugal brazil in a single war giving me all of south america.

French speaking: Haïti, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin (northern part), Saint Barthélémy, all except Haïti still part of France.
Dutch speaking: Saint Martin (southern part), curaçao, Aruba, bonaire and Saint eustatius.
English speaking: Belize, barbados, us and uk virgin islands, bahamas, bermuda, granada, Saint Vincent and something, Saint Lúcia (some of them still part of the uk)
A few others but none Portuguese speaking...

in brazil we learn that is all just america, not north and south but only one continent, and that makes sense to me, i dont get it why people try to divide in north and south, everybody in this continent speaks the same 5 languages, all have natives, africans and asians together, i dont see any reason to divide

There are a bunch of islands that don't speak Spanish, or rather, officially not Spanish.
Top of my head: Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Sint-Maarten and Saint-Martin, Guadalupe, Saba, Saint Kitts. The list is long.
