    Thanks for a great review!
I think you are spot on describing the features and sound quality.
Personally, I find the low-end performance 'better' through the Focal Bathys - deeper, tighter and more articulate , but more 'fun' and 'inflated' through the B&W Px8 - they are both great-sounding headphones well worth a listen.
Regarding the sound bites, I don't think the 3Dio FS microphone setup is good enough to portray how the headphones actually sound - not even for comparison. Maybe the the more pricier 3Dio Pro II with DPA 4060 lav mics will perform better.
It is possible to 3D print outer ears and ear canals, and add two high quality microphones at a lower price than the 3Dio Pro II. And couple them with a good stereo recorder.
Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud because it's a cool idea to 'record' the sound stage of different headphones and speaker systems (plus room acoustics). You just need high-quality microphones and a generic design of the outer ear that 'works'.
    All the best

I actually got to try these on and compared to the momentum 4, Sony XM 5 and bowers and Wilkins Px2, the focal sound was so much more enveloping and dynamic. The Sony's also were very good but the DAC mode sold me on the focal's.

Great review, thanks. Wonder what you would think of the Edifier S3 Stax. There is no ANC, but the sound quality IMO one of the best in Bluetooth segment, for a far more reasonable price comparing to Bathys, 5909 or Solitaire T.

From your binaural test presented here, I much prefer the Bathys sound signature. I do find the PX8 quite muffled, if that's the correct word.
By the way, the correct pronunciation in French is [Batys]. Thanks for your review, I think I will get the Bathys.

this is very depending what are you looking for. I had both of them and after hours of testing decided to keep PX8's over Bathys. This is really subjective and we can not say which are better and which worse. PX8 giving me more "fun" while listening kind of music I like, while Bathys sounds really wide and opened but flat in the same time. So I would say for POP, Dance, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Rock, etc where you need presence of deep bass - PX8 is better, for rest - Bathys.

I’ve had the Bathys for a month now. Amazing headphone. My favourite feature is DAC mode for hi fidelity listening with an iPhone. This is something the other headphones lack. If you want to spend money on hi audio headphones then don’t use Bluetooth. This takes away the need for a separate headphone amp.

Wonderful review! I extensively auditioned these vs the PX8 and concluded the same thing. The mid presentation is a Focal trait, which is totally what I prefer. Enjoyed the review, but I personally think these are not worth the money. They cheaped out on the LDAC codec, when 100 dollar units from Anker were able to afford the license. Instead of making them a great closed back headphone that could run in passive mode [and not require the battery to power on! wtf LOL ] they put effort into building bling lights into them, whaat the heck? Reviewers have been too kind to these things. On top of that, the ANC is really poor; for the price they should at least be competing with the leaders Bose, Sony, and Apple, but instead they are closer to the 100-200 dollar market.
edit: And they should have bought into the Aptx lossless codec which is already on the market in some earphones, seriously Focal...

    • @Audiofied
      @Audiofied  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Certainly agree with you on some points! ANC is not as good as the others (and certainly not as good as the price suggests), but I have to say the sound quality is way better than what you get from Bose, Sony and Apple. That's the real saving grace for these I think, simply based on their sound quality. I actually am testing a pair of earbuds that has Snapdragon Sound (aka lossless), but unfortunately, not many phones on the market support it right now.
Btw, you're right, the LEDs were pretty unnecessary LOL

They focused on bringing the best sound they could and succeeded. The Bathys sound better on AptX than 95% other BT sets on whatever codec they support. I first bought the Px8 but within 6 months the leather of the headband started to tier on both sides while using them normal. I send it back and today I got the Focal Bathys. I can't really say that I enjoy the sound better of the Bathys. I would say it is different but to my ears not better or worse.
I also have a remark about this video. Usually I can understand that not everybody is recording the sound of a YT channel in with the utmost detail. However, when you have an audio channel I would give it a bit more attention. It is not (just) the quality of the microphone but much more the way the sound is recorded. It is close to clipping and very harsh sounding.

Just want to add something, i have noticed most reviews fail to mention the codecs support. Some of these including Px8 dont support LDAC, which means no high quality sound over bluetooth. What make worst if some of us owners of Samsung newer phones you are in tough luck. You can only stream in 16bits. Samsung phones only have the old classic aptx not HD nor adaptive. They refuse to pay qualcomm royalty. This is really bad. I know you can always go wired but that defeat the purpose of portability. The only choice is Don't use Samsung phones, use any other android snapdragon that support at least aptx HD.

I ended up buying the Px8, even though it has the worst sounding compare to 5909, Bathys, and BO H95. Personally I think Bathys has the best sound, unfortunately both 5909 and Bathys are so big and ugly. Bathys are pale in comparison to their wired Focal siblings, which normally look more premium. Seriously both Mark Levinson and Focal need to get their design team together. They need to know wireless mean portability. So other than sound, looks and slimness also important factor. Among the luxury headphones only the BW and BO achieve the good looks. Unfortunately BO has no value. Focal also need to up their ante on the NC...forget even Sony class, they are absolute crap even compare to sub $300 earbuds. Also the built in dac is a little marketing hype, let's face it even PX8 and the other can also connect and sound better wired. Most of them will have built in DSP processing anyway.
