Australia’s biggest problem is The migration intake. This year was over 800,000 people.
The population of Australia is 25 million people.
It can’t sustain that many people coming in.
Migration needs to stop for a couple of years to let the housing supply catch up with the size of the population.
The government However don’t seem to want to listen to anybody.

You don't understand economics. Why do you think the government let them in? They know damn well there's not enough room for them. They let them in cause we have very low productivity. Aussies have had it good for far to long and are very lazy. The young generation understands they will inherent large amounts of wealth so they don't pursue meaningful carriers like they use to 30 years ago. Don't blame outsiders mate, its your own at fault here... Those outsiders have supported the growth of your economy. If it wasn't for immigrants moving here after the GFC aussies would be a lot broker today. Thank your lucky stars they want to come there. They saved you a recession. The Government is using the same tactic now.

No the biggest problem is policy, Negative Gearing, and the tax benefits for investors. Everyone loves to blame immigration because it's easier to manipulate people via their emotions. And when it comes immigration, it evokes people's racial biases and easy quick fix thinking, "stop the boats". It's easier to feel than it is to think. Propagandists and marketers know this. If you start talking about the root of the problem, policy, everyone switches off because it doesn't evoke emotion and involves thinking. The nation is going down the drain because the majority of the electorate have been too lazy to think and allowed spin to emotionally manipulate them for DECADES. Meanwhile, the Coalition and the Labor party have enjoyed for decades a cosy relationship and golden job opportunities with special interests at the expense of the nation's health and prosperity. Yes, immigration is a contributing factor, but it's not the cause.

@@arkyark8Immigration is the cause mate. The correlation between increases in house prices and higher immigration levels is clear. Too many people, too few houses, it's simple maths really. It isn't racist to say we have too much immigration. I'm not sure why anyone thinks mass migration is a good thing anyway, or why it is taboo to say otherwise, but I'm saying it.

This analysis is pretty accurate, and it's difficult for people to see the issue unless you've lived through it. I lived in Australia for 17 years, and did okay there. I bought a house when they were still $25,000 (for a large 4 bedroom house). I paid it off within 5 years, installed a swimming pool and nice garden (etc). Today, 30 years later, I can now sell this house (in Perth) for around $3 million. The economy (for your "average Joe") is definitely broken in Australia, as it is in most of the world. The cost of living (mostly the cost of accommodation) is at the heart of the problem (as is the case in most of the western world). Making people "feel rich" by artificially inflating the property bubble doesn't work long term - it's a pyramid scheme that's about to collapse. I used to love Australia, but was always aware of the extreme government authoritarian undercurrent in Australia.
The younger generation have been screwed over badly, and there is no solution to the problem. Just leave - go somewhere more affordable. Either that, or make sure you start/run your own successful business, or become a director or CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
Anyway, I'm now living in a non-English speaking country, and have never been happier. It's cheap, infrastructure is quite good, great food/culture/people.

This video is correct in it's description of the housing crisis in Australia - young people should be really angry about this. The tax policies around investment housing need to change - get rid of negative gearing, this will take investors out of the market - this means there will be more houses for young people to buy. Housing is for shelter and for a place to call home - it is not a "market".

Actually we have jumped to the 1st & most expensive place to buy a house now ; recently it was Japan. House prices are insane in Australia. They soared 2 & 3 times during covid. Then being told no % rate rises til 24; which I knew was baloney as America just lifted theirs! Then hit with 13 interest rate rises in a row???!!! A lot of people had no choice but to elevate rents to pay their mortgages. A lot of investor's are forced to sell due to the prohibitive costs which inturn will have a negative effect on housing too.A lot of people too carn't afford to keep their only home. There is a lot of homelessness now,the likes of which we have not seen since the 1930's . People with jobs sadly living in their cars & tents quietly moved on before daylight. All this & businesses going broke at an alarming rate. Perfect recipe for a Depression,as people carn't afford to purchase & keep businesses going. We are told not to spend due to inflation !!?? Govt's spending creates inflation not us fact. Plus Their red tape & taxes making it hard for businesses. What will the Govt & the ATO do to get their tax dollars that are dwindling day by day?!This should NEVER have been allowed to happen,& all in 'the land of plenty'. Whose running this ship?Where was their forethought? They have 'overcooked' the market with % rates too low for too long, then the soaring jump in house prices + 13 sudden crippling rises & on top of the cost of living crisis + global factors too!!? Only last year,I saw an unrenovated weatherboard house for sale in America for only $25 000 ! Similar house in South of Sydney 2.5 million!!! Not so long ago everyone could afford to buy a house be it modest or more lavish;& you got what you paid for.Now shacks that no one once wanted are selling for outrages prices!!House prices need to drop to allow true affordability, because this is not sustainable,& we are the talk of oversea's with our overpriced shacky houses. All the marker's are there for a big correction sorryvto say sadly.

Basically life here is all about housing and working your complete life . Australian cities have artificial walls around them called National Parks they stop development and push up prices of old housing stock even in Alice Springs they have surrounded the town with Parks ,yes in the middle of a huge empty desert. Sydney is a disaster waiting to happen the banks are poised to gobble up the housing stock after folks cannot afford a 1.5 million mortgage at 7.5% especially when they lose their job in the coming recession and then when you see that their parents have gone guarantee for the loan through ownership of their homes of 40 or 50 years and now live on a pension with a small cash savings of say 300,000 this money will be gobbled up by the banks and they will be forced to sell in a calapsing real estate market the future looks grim to me , my advice get out of the large cities asap or sell in Sydney now buy in cheaper Brisbane or were ever now for cash and hunker down to survive the coming storm God help us all
