Yeah! Dominic and Katherine were okay but, They could never match Jamie and Lily as Jace and Clary. The scene were Dominic(Jace) Goes “You have the Sight” Oh my god, I cringed so much. I literally had to pause, realise he just said that, go “WTF, did he just do that”?! I didn’t even finish the first episode and I was like, nah I ain’t watching this. They I had found this vid and I had learned that the series had Malec and I was like, “Change of plans, it has Malec so, You’re watching it!” Now I’m on 3B. And I have also ranger so much

In the books Valentine goes through a portal which shatters and Jace sees his childhood house in Idris. In the movie Valentine is stuck in the portal which is later destroyed
@@natalijastojsic No no no, there is plenty different. Firstly, the vampires did not capture Simon because they thought he had the Mortal cup. They captured Simon by accident. The demon Clary was fighting in the beginning part was not a dog. Valentine did not tell Clary and Jace about him mixing angel blood into them. These are a few things out of many tbh.
For me Jamie and Lily were much more believable and gave the overall best performance. I dont mind Clary and Jace from the show, but I just didn't really feel the chemistry and mystery that I felt with the movie couple.
Also, for me Simon was perfect in the movie, so I had a hard time getting over that.

Having read the books and watched both the series and the movie I'd say that Lily Collins was perfect for playing Clary, she is generally such a great actress. Jamie was also a great pick to portray Jace, he was way closer to the looks and the mixed behavior of Jace. I think that Matthew Daddario was the superior pick for Alec Lightwood (seriously haven't found anyone who could disagree). Emeraude was also the better Isabelle, I know she was supposed to be colder than the show made her look but she was supposed to be sassy and interesting as well and Jemima just didn't give me the right vibes (nothing against the actress I guess it was the way the movie wanted to show the character, she did a great job)
Even though I really enjoyed Alberto as Simon I think I preferred Robert in the movie. Both Magnus in the movie and on the show were really good I can't choose. I also feel like the movie did a better job when it comes to valentine, in the show he seemed way more human than he should

im biased bc i love love loveeee jamie and lily as clary and jace. i loved the books so i was stoked about a show, but was SUPER let down with the weird actress they hired to play clary. she didn't fit clary at all in my opinion. and in the book, clary described jace as a lion. AND JAMIE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT YOU'D EXPECT A LION IN THE FORM OF A HUMAN TO LOOK LIKE. I personally love the chemistry between jamie and lily as well.the new jace didnt stick with me, he isnt bad, but he cant beat jamie imo. jamie seems more like an "angel" too. idk if its just me, but his features seem so "godly" to me, similar to those chiseled greek sculptures.

Even though people talk about how unattractive they find movie Jace, I feel like the movie portrayed his personality more accurately. I like a lot of things about the show, but I miss Jace's sarcasm. I feel like they make him overly serious and that's Alex's job not his lol.

I agree completely. I miss the funny sarcasm the movie had going. But, I think the reason they changed it is because, for some dumb reason, there were a lot of fans complaining about movie Jace being to much of a negative character. But personally I think that if anyone really pays attention to the dialogue, Jamie was truly funny. I miss that from the show. But, I have to admit I like both actors. I just miss the funnier Jace.
For me, I'm really expecting Jace to be tall and thin since I read the books. Jamie was the perfect match for me and I don't see much of Jace in the series but maybe it's because I choose not to watch the series anymore since the improvisation is depressing. I like the book better.

- I feel like they got valentine so wrong for both movie and series. When reading the book I've always imagined someone like daniel craig lol.
- Jace is also a miss. the show's got Jace's personality all wrong. He's lost all the things that make him Jace not to mention he looks nothing like book Jace. Movie Jace was also weird. He looked sickly and too stiff. In fact both Jaces were too stern looking. Jace is supposed to be charming but they failed to portray that. But maybe my vision of Jace is too specific lol. I've always envisioned someone like...young alex pettyfer as jace
- Kat's acting in the first season is unbearable but she got better... Lily is still the better clary imo

Okay so I really don't care if I get crucified for my opinions here so Imma have a go at this.
Things I Thought the Movie Did Better:
-The Institute (interior). *Much* closer to the book, and looked hella awesome. All of the rooms felt like things from the book. I feel like the exterior was too Hogwarts for me, but the interior was great. Pet peeve: Why tf is there a portal in the center of the place? Didn't click for me. No thanks.
-Luke. I'm black. Don't call me racist. But I think Luke was just better executed in the movie and was much closer to the book.
-Jocelyn. This is a toss up because I really like Maxim Roy's portrayal but I feel Lena Headey is just a more experienced actress and really seemed badass (GoT, anyone?).
-Props. This one's pretty obvious just cuz of budget. The seraph blades, while similar to the show, didn't look like lightsabers (a concept I think the show-writers liked too much, lol), and that's a good thing. There wasn't much difference in the steles, but idk, I just felt like they looked cooler.
-Chronology. I actually really enjoyed the route they took in the show, but in terms of following the chronological journey the movie did better.
-Hotel Dumort (appearance). It was an actual abandoned hotel. Not an upgraded space that was under eternal construction. Didn't make sense to me in the show. That's the only thing I liked about the hotel in the movie, really.
-The Shadow World in general. It actually felt like a world within our own, a trait that kind of got lost in translation on the show.
Things I Thought the Show Did Better:
-Delivery. The pacing of the film was kind of iffy, and I feel like the show definitely rectified this. The way each individual story was played out in each episode made sense and felt consistent.
-Clary. I love Lily Collins -- but she isn't the right Clary. I personally have a deep love for Clary's character in general, and Katherine's portrayal only magnified this. When people call Clary annoying and bitchy I turn them away because their points are usually quite moot. Point is, I enjoy Katherine McNamara a great deal, and think she definitely lends herself to Clary's role.
-Simon. Another toss-up, cuz Robert Sheehan was the perfect amount of nerdy-cutie in the movie, but there's something abt his appearance that threw me off. Alberto is this adorable smol bean that I think did so well with Simon and just reminds me a little of Stiles in TW's earlier seasons, so yay.
-Jace. If you know me, you know my opinions on JCB. I don't like him. He's unattractive, scrawny, and I just could never really enjoy him in the movie. The only thing I think the movie executed better in Jace was his biting sass. I personally really liked the kindness and compassion Jace was imbued with in the show (plus, American accent = accuracy to the novel), but the sarcasm got lost after the first two episodes, and I miss that. Also, Dom Sherwood is the star of my wet dreams. Like, holy *shit*.
-Alec. Alec was an annoying piece of shit in the movie, looked almost forty, and always seemed constipated. The show did perfectly in displaying Alec's salty interior, his love for his family, closeted sexuality, and struggles with fear of himself that I think was absolutely necessary for his portrayal. It didn't hurt that Matt Daddario is crazy hot, too.
-I S A B E L L E. Izzy in the movie looked thirty seven. She was short, not supermodel pretty (as sexist as that sounds, book accuracy, y'all), and overall didn't have much substance. Isabelle in the show is not only Hispanic, but strong, beautiful, confident, extremely intelligent, powerful, and the character everyone will root for. I loved her so much, Emeraude Toubia took serious care in combining strength and vulnerability into something special.
-Magnus. Don't even get me started on how bad Magnus' acting in the film was. Not only did he have next to no significance and zero chemistry with Alec, he just wasn't the correct fit (he looked awesome, tho). Harry Shum Jr on the other hand, oh holy lord. A sexy package of smart, eccentric, graceful, well-processed performance and quite possibly the best actor on the show. He brought Magnus to life in such a way that anyone with reservations over his character was instantly floored.
-Institute (exterior). I hated the technology in the Institute and the overall modernness injected into it. That's not what the Institute is like. At all. No thanks. But the outside, the exterior of it was an actual cathedral that I think looked a lot less Hogwarts and a whole lot more gothic fantasy. Yes please.
-Changes to the book. The show had a lot of changes, yes. But they were good ones (okay, not all, see my opinion of the Institute and the seraph blades). Ep 9 and 10 were *fantastic* and my favorite episodes of the show so far. A+ for that.
-Minority representation. Two Hispanic actors, one black actor. Two LGBTQ characters. Female empowerment. Corrupt government. Racism, sexism, xenophobia. All things dealt with maturely and gracefully in the first season, and no doubt going to be furthered in the second season.
Imma stop here, cuz if I went further we'd be here for six hours. I applaud anyone who stuck around to read this long (I heavily doubt anyone will, but whatever, I was bored), but if y'all do, cool! Just know, criticism of my opinions will get you nowhere. I'm here to discuss, not argue.

I'm a big fan of the book series and the storyline of city of bones is the best for me. Jamie is exactly how i imagined Jace would look like and the same goes for Lily as Clary. I think the actors did an awesome job playing their roles and having the right personalities that matched with the books. I fell in love with the movie immediately, the cast, the storyline, beautiful snapshots. But the show is killing me. I know it's just an adaptation and it doesn't have to be the same, but for god's sake the cast is weird, none of them matches with the book and their personalities are just terrible. I hated the relationship between izzy and clary, because in movie or books they had to work on it and in the show izzy is a weird little flirt who takes clary like a sister from the first moment. And jace and clary were not friends from the start and jace was sarcastic but also kinda sweet and you actually saw how he cared but also didn't wanted to trust her or get too close to her and in the show they just skipped this part. But gosh i love the scene when alec grabs clary by the neck and push her to the wall and then he realizes what is he doing and lets her go. Amazing acting for me. Also i find him very attractive and i ship Malec really hard, so yeah, he's hella cool. I love how in the books, him and clary have to find their own way of accepting each other and it takes aaages. Lovely character innit?

I am probably only one who don't compare. Movie was book adaption while show is just based on,that mean they develot it the way they writers want not adapting it to original characters so I don't see why comparison is needed actually. I purely love both of them.
Vanity I totally agree! The writers don't want to completely copy the books or movie. It's simply an adaptation and the author Cassandra was fine with what they wanted to show to be like. So many people get upset about how the movie and book are not the same to the tv show. Not everything's perfect.😂

for everyone saying that raphael was in the movie: the vampire in the movie was never adressed by a name. he looked like a leader, but he got killed. raphael survives till the very last book. even if he somehow survives in the movie as well, i repeat, he was an unnamed vampire, so you can't keep telling me he's raphael.

And yet none of them got Valentine's charming and yet chilling and almost inhuman appearance
well.. problem with the movie and advantage of the series: time. in a series you can divide it into different seasons so you can concentrate on main and more events. for a film you've also got the option to make more than one, but to keep the watchers concentrated its best to keep a movie exciting and with action, etc.
for me the movie was definitely okay. and worth a shot if you haven't read the books in the first place. but now I definitely choose the series over the movie. the cast is better, for ex. the feelings and the atmosphere both between clary and jace and especially between Magnus and Alec are WAY BETTER in the series than they are in the movie..
zeldaxlink more then anything I of course prefer the mortal instruments book collection and all the other shadow hunter books then anything else but out of the movie and the TV show I prefer the movie. The TV show has awful effects and doesn’t looks realistic. Jace is better looking in the movie and fits the description of shadow hunters in the book better. Lily Colin’s( Clary ) is much better in the movie and i personally enjoy it more. I hate watching things based on book after I’ve read them because it changes my whole idea of the characters.

jamie and lilly are the perfect jace and clary, matthew and harry are the perfect alec and magnus, i prefer luke and simon from the movie(except simons eyes should be brown according to the books) and jocelyn from the movie is more accurate. In my opinion Izzy from the movie was appearance wize the better izzy, emeraud was great but didn't embody isabella's character neither did the actress in the movie... Nevertheless all actors did their best at betraying their own version of the characters, these are just my opinion since i've read the books and seen both the series and the movie:)

I really liked the fact they we get to see Maryse, Raphael and Max in the show. And even Camille even though she didn't look the way she is described in the books.

Nor Rafael and Camille neither meliorn are in the first book they all show up in city of glass and city of fallen angels. Magnus and Alec are having their first kiss on the 3rd book. Also the demons are much better in the film.The book describes the demons much more disgusting than the show does.

I love the books but I still absolutely love the show. It's my comfort show. I've seen it so many times. The relationships are so much better than in the movie, I love how close Clary and Izzy are, Alec actually has a personality....just. So much better

Alice Marie To be honest, I am really disappointed with what the movie and show did. It would have been really awesome if they would have just sticked with the books. I know that they changed writers and showrunners and directors for season 2 and CC is more involved (which is the only reason why I am still watching). TBH am I the only one who hated movie jace? I mean, his personality and acting was on point, but he just doesn't look like jace to me at all and it really put me off.
The show is so much better. I loved the movie. They fit a lot in the two hours. But it failed. The show isn't like the movie, or even like the books in some aspects but we get more of the world we love and they can explore the characters and back stories more on the show. And let's face it, there are no more movies coming. (At least not right now) I think they are doing a great job. And we have exactly one week from today for Season 2 of Shadowhunters to start.

Here are some of my opinions but they change on the daily so...
I am a huge, huge fan of Lily Collins, but Kat is what I pictured Clary as and she's doing so well with the role.
I also love JCB, but he definitely came across too serious in the movie, although Dom is starting to step into being too serious too. JCB is more of how I pictured Jace but at the same time so is Dom? Sounds weird but Jace in my eyes is a mix between the two.
Simon in both adaptations was pretty damn accurate, and as much as I love Sheehan, he could've probably played Jace if he had blonde hair you know? But Alberto is just so Simon, in and out of character.
Emeraude Toubia is totally who I imagine Izzy as and will carry on being who I envision, she just does so well, I wish the writers would've written her some better stuff S1.
Valentine in both representations seems so, off. But I do prefer the show.
Hodge in the movie is probably better, but I like what they've done with him on the show, apart from not mentioning his love for books, because even if he's supposed to be more of a warrior, he can still love books.
Alec in the movie was so drab, I love Kevin Zegers, so it could be the way they wrote him, but Matthew Daddario is perfect for Alec, and kind of just perfect overall.
Magnus is a tough character, and I think Harry Shum Jr is managing him so nicely! (A lot, lot better than the movie)
Luke was great in both, can't really pick one, both took the character in unique, different Luke-ish ways.
I kind of totally hate the technology in the institute, it just doesn't need to be there and doesn't look good.
Also theres a lack of 'lazy scenes' in both where it's just the characters flaunting their chemistries and how they click. Would do anything for a cheeky breakfast scene with the crew where they chat about something that isn't Valentine.
But overall, the books win, hands down.
It's like you read my mind. I mean Izzy and and Alec in Shadowhunters are exactly what I pictured, especially Alec. The only thing I don't agree on is Jace I think Jace in the series is closer the one I imagined in the books, but it all depends on the imagination I guess. I also like the bond between Alec and Jace in the series. The show is actually much better as it follows the original storyline from the books, the show has also introduced many more characters, but it was probably due to the fact that they had more time, rather than just two hours to cram everything into. Yes, season 1 could have been better, but watching episode 1 of season 2, you can tell they have taken a new turn, that the characters are much more involved, where the relationships actually feel more like they did in the books. Now the film got a lot wrong, the worst part being at the end where Clary has the mortal cup, that's not how is was supposed to end, and anyone who had read the books would know that, as Valentine had the cup by the end of the book. Another thing wrong was, clary wasn't ginger. But now that shadowhunters have its new upgrade for season 2, we have much to look forward to, and hopefully, in season 3 (Fingers crossed), we will get our first glimpse of Jonathan (Sebastian). Shadowhunters has a lot more to offer than a stand alone film with too many mistakes. Plus the shadowhunters cast is just incredible.

His flirtiness, her badass scenes,her to-die-for perfect-model-body, its just so damn good I just wanna throw my money at who casted her💸 Although I do admit that in some scenes, her emotions and acting could have been a little bit better whenever in concerns scenes where emotions play an important asset in, but she improves and all is good 😊)

Personality is 90% on point 👍 The way Matt portrays Alec, dark gloomy serious strict and brooding, but at the same time sympathetic and you just cant help but feel bad for him, thats definitely how Alexander Gideon Lightwood should have been hands down, not the bratty excuse of the Movie😤 The only regretable thing about TV Series Alec is that he is just way.too.damn.tall 😅 Like he is 190 cm and Harry is 180cm, a 10cm difference, a good difference but the characters are reversed 😂 Though I guess I wont really complain, TV Magnus does look cute when the height difference is hella obvious 😂 I mean hey, reversible is gaysible right? 😂)

Clizzy=TV Series(I get that the books' Clizzy didint really get along with each other and the movie stayed true to that, but I just really prefer it when female characters get along well, and especially with how cute Izzy is in the series and how less bitchy Clary is 😅)
One thing im clueless about is though, is Simon's relationships. I dunno im just not that into how they are portrayed in the series, but also not sure about the movies, the series gives way too much teen drama feel to it I think 😅 But either way, both Simons are just adorable ball of sunshines☀️ And Alberto is hella cute❤️
First of all I like Clace from the series better because you see everything they go through! And third of all DOM IS 10000000x better than movie Jace, like how is that even comparable! Bruh! Smh!
Finally someone who likes tv show clary!!!! I personally think clace in the tv show is better and dom was the better jace for me. Other than that I 100% agree (except the height difference between Alec and Magnus just makes it cuter in my opinion, the feels of it is amazing and the height just adds to that)
Overall, I love the show more, but the thing I love about Jace most is missing in the show : where is the sassy and sarcastic side of him that we all love??

Honestly, i prefer the movie.The plot and the characters were way more similar to the book in comparison with the show.I only watched the first season of the show 'cause i couldn't stand Clary's acting and how Jace was portrayed, honestly, couldn't stand him. The only thing i liked in the show was Alec but that was about it. I know everyone will hate me for saying this but i didn't like very much Harry as Magnus.He didn't have the charm i portrayed him to have while reading the books. I prefer the actor in the movie to be Magnus, but that's just my personal opinion
Yes! I agree! I also prefer Lily and Jamie as Clary and Jace but YESSS finally somebody wants to agree with me cuz You're like the first person ever to say that you didn't like harry as Magnus. I honestly LOVED Godfrey Gao as Magnus much better cuz he's so fine and fit the character so well!! But RIP Godfrey :(

I use to think just like u, y quick with the serie, but i Saw it en jenuary, i can't lie to you, Jace and Clary áre sooo dissapointed, buuut Malec it's so beatiful, Izzy and Raphael, was the only reason i could ended.

If you are going to watch the tv show don’t go in with a negative mind. There are a few changes with the characters and story line so just be aware! Take it all with a grain of salt. The show had to make some changes to keep the fans that have already read the books entertained and guessing! In my opinion I like the changes because that way the entire tv show is not that predictable. I think the cast is good! But no one plays clary and jace as good as lucy and jamie ❤️
your right about the characters of Clary and Jace. but in all of the four, Dom did a great job as his character on the show Kat could have done better, Jamie and Lilly did good as well but i personally don't like Lilly she is to mouse like for me. Jamie did well he is differently what imaged as jace . but all in all the two Jace's were great but the two Clarys could have done better

Personally I think the Jace, Clary, and Magnus from the movie were better cast while Alec and Isabelle from the show were better cast.

Everyone says that the movie is better or the serie is better. I don't get it. Both of them are great! I love the movie and i love the serie so much. All the actors are fantastic!

Neither the movie nor the show are likes the books. And arguably, that's a good thing. The books weren't that great. You have to look at them as stand alone pieces without using the books for context to truly judge them, and in that manner the movie fails miserably where the show succeeds. But I agree with most of the comments that say you have to give the show a few episodes to find it's place.

He/She's right, I mean I loved and lived the books but being older now and rereading the series you find so many plotholes and things that just don't add up and I personally love that neither the movie and especially not the show tried to follow everything one on one. That would have been an epic fail like so many other book adaptations so I really love the creativity of the writers of the show.
