    Gentlemen,
    I can't thank you enough for posting these video's. I really hope to be able to make it down there next year when I finish Aviation Maintenance School. It's so awesome to be able to see these amazing aircraft come to life. I can't wait to see some video's on the BF-109 I heard you talk about. Stay safe and God bless my friend's. Much support from Oklahoma! 👍👍👍

      Also on that note my towns airfield has a Wirraway and the airfields owner and family friend evan is rather brutal in his opinion to the wirraway,
      In his words and i quote "What? The Wirraway? Nah, all shes good for is converting fuel to noise"

    Nothing like the sound of a big nine cylinder Wasp. I noticed everything he said, how the plane would creep without chocks, how there were cylinders dropping out , then I learned from him that's the left mag. I got my A&P many years ago, ended up working on cars.. go figure. But I have a good ear for the health of an engine simply by listening to it.. Very cool thanks for not covering up the sound with music or other nonsense.

    My Uncle trained on the RAAF CAC Wirraway in WW2 prior to the P40 in the Philippines. Was one of the few who after completing a few tours was sent to the Advanced Central Gunnery School in Cressy Victoria (Australia) on Mk5 Spitfires which was considered the Top Gun pilots school during the war. That funny little single gun in the nose pretty unique with the Wirraway. Shame don't think any left in Australia now..

    I would love to know if Kermit Weeks ever got the Bristol Beaufighter? He was working on getting it from South Africa. I talked with him many years ago. Visited Fantasy of Flight with my Grandfather who built the first cradle for transporting the Merlin engines. My Farther was there also and was talking to Kermit about Merlin engines as he worked on them when he was in the RAF. You are an amazing man Mr Weeks you took time to talk to us. I don't know if you remember but I am still writing that book on the Beaufighter. Be blessed!

    • @xvdd1
      @xvdd1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I did not pay much attention to the Beaufighter until I saw one put through its paces at Biggin Hill and for something that looks a little pedestrian that thing shifts and turns not sure who was flying it but he did a nice job of displaying it.

    Brave guys that had to face Zeroes in these stop-gap fighters.

    • @devonlord99
      @devonlord99 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the Wirraway wasn't ever intended to be a fighter nor was it ever classed as a fighter, but there is record of a Wirraway shooting down a Zero so it is correct to say that pilots; perhaps when feeling lucky, would use it as a pseudo-fighter. Regardless the pilots were indeed very brave.

    • @philipberry6477
      @philipberry6477 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@devonlord99 Guess we’re all experts. If you quote Wikipedia;
      its American "cousin" the T-6 (both types having been derived from the NA-16) did for many Allied Air Forces during the Second World War, the Wirraway served as one of the RAAF's main trainer types from 1939. Beside serving as a trainer aircraft they were also operated in combat roles, including as an emergency fighter. At the outbreak of the Pacific War in December 1941 Wirraways equipped seven RAAF squadrons: Nos 4, 5, 12, 22, 23, 24 and 25. A group of five Wirraways based at Kluang in Malaya for training purposes was pressed into combat against Japanese ground invasion forces; these were generally flown by New Zealanders with Australian observers, and had some successes

    there is chance my grandfather built a part or parts for this plane
    he worked at the Commonwealth Aircraft factory before during and after WW2
    and if you have to ask why wasnt he fighting
    1 he was unfit for duty
    2 he was in a protected job meaning he was exempt from duty even if he wanted or was fit enough
