This is a video I made a while back and really enjoyed the project but for whatever reason not many people watched it. After a small edit I’m giving it another chance.
But won't this spoil the statistics on the contrary? For example, I have already seen this video. And in general, how useful is the practice of republishing old videos?
Im 62 I love watching your videos. Today my great grandfather wanted to see what i was watching. I put this video on his tv. He loved your design. He worked with wood after he retired in Belgium. He misses it. Hes now watching all your videos. His smile is absolutely GLORIOUS. Just wanted to let you know
Impossible!...the 98yr old must be your Grandfather at best, if you are 62.. if your Father were 16 when YOU were born, and your Grandfather also 16 when HE became a Father...do the Math!!...
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." But I'm a 68 yr old wood student, and I'm old school. Being more traditional. That being said, it takes a talent to create a beautiful piece, and that's what you did. It's a lot of work, but it showed your character. It's beautiful.
Maybe a piece of tree trunk you can pick up from someone who is cutting down trees for next time? You will have to let it dry for a while though. Beautiful results with this project!
Watching the process of making this piece did not make me think it would be anything I would care for - then you finished and I LOVE it! This is definitely something I would proudly have in my home. It is so unique and beautiful! Congratulations an yet another project that shows that you are a professional!
A very original piece. I love the contrast of the black & walnut. Mando should have a blast exploring it. It’s hard to believe it started from all that wood. I hope it turned out exactly as your mental picture, even if it did take “2000 years!”
It looks like a meteorite chunk has landed inside your living room. Now you need a lava lamp for the top and some drip-glazed ceramic candy dish too. Has Mondo explored all the nooks and crannies yet? What a fun piece.
only found you a week ago, have been watching your old stuff, this time i can tell you how impressed i am with your work, i like your attitude, oh and that beautiful cat.
Awesome, Jay. You jokingly always say that you are a professional but what you don’t say and truly should be saying is that you are a perfectionist. I’ve seen all your videos and knew this would be fantastic which it absolutely was.
…and the Olympic Gold Medal for patience goes to Jay at Flipping Drawers! Sadly the medal was disqualified as the entire audience was covered in 4 feet of sawdust!! 😂 You are amazing lol … beautiful table… I hope you get your workshop cleaned by next January!! 😊
How wonderful that you were able to bring your vision to reality ! This coffee table is certainly a conversation starter ! Thank you for bringing it back . Stay safe , well and...creative !
Oh, I'm so glad you're back to making these weird, organic, ultramodern pieces again! Don't get me wrong--I love the restorations. But I love the artistic vision I see in these pieces.
Stepped outside the box on this one and got a hit anyway. Very unusual in a good way. Imaginative. You are becoming a woodcarver as well as a woodworker and furniture restorer. A sure fired PROFESSIONAL. Excellent work. And you kept your sense of humor all through the learning experience. Give a good rub to all the kitties for me. 😮❤
Thank you for sharing this video. I love the new content and realize that this was difficult for you to put forward. I’m so glad you were successful in doing this. It’s nice to see something different once in a while. Thank you! Love your work and watch you all the time.
Yes Jay, you did not realize what magnitude of job you did start with. Gluing such a lumb of "not dried" industry wood. Brave promises you made to youself. The result however must have bee an enormeous reward. I love the contrast between the walnut colour with the black recesses and the shining finishing you applied at the end. A beutifull piece of furniture you realized. Wish you success in cleaning up the workshop after all this carving and sanding. Concratiulations and best regards from a verry wett Germany too. I keep following your videos. Stay healthy , Robert.
I completely forgot about this. But when you started carving in the holes/shapes it hit me. It think the black and toner was very handsome. Very cool idea. Love the legs too. Your home looks so warm and cozy ❤️
A good video on patience & perseverance my friend. As a retired Senior Master of Art in South Australia where I majored in Sculpture, this is not, to me, one of your finest pieces. That said, there are some interesting aspects to this piece & there will be many who find it works for them. Art is a selfish venture in many ways, an artist works on a piece to produce something that they want. If the Artist is satisfied & happy with the finished piece, then they have succeeded & can enjoy the finished product, end of story. If other people see the piece & like it, that is great for the Artist. At the conclusion it is an interesting piece. Cheers, Don from South Australia.

Missing a video from you? NEVER. I watched it. At the time, I thought it was kind of massive; but on second thought, I like it.
WOW!! That is a very unique piece. I like the carved out pieces and the color of it. It shows how talented you are. You did an amazing job on this piece!
Thanks for sharing this video. It is fun to see how far you have come. I have been long time viewer and really appreciate seeing this piece as I felt it looked like a boulder you would find on a beach that had pits and holes in it that trapped pebbles and with the wave action rolling the stones inside these holes over time carving out the niches. This is truly an amazing organic piece, congratulations.😊
Love your work and your open and honest presentation style. This was not really my kind of thing (that's just me, NOT a criticism). But man, you've got to have impressive cajones to even try something where so many things are against you. Don't stop. PLEASE. Progress comes through vision and courage. You've got both.
Well now we need to see Mando chilling in one of the nooks on the side! I bet he'd look like one of those ancient wild cats who hunted early man! Minus the saber teeth. Very cool.
I thought I'd seen this before. Glad to see I'm not imaging things. I can envision this in a very open living area with wood floors and big sliding doors looking out over a natural setting with lots of trees. I can see this as a great statement piece at the end of a long, low sofa. I can also see myself on that sofa with a cuppa and a good book😂😂
Next time... remember, that home improvement stores recommend not to paint or stain outdoor wood until 1 year after you buy the wood. That's how long they say it takes the wood to dry enough to accept the finish. ☺️❤️❤️
Talk about making a silk purse out of a sow's ear! (Does anyone use that expression anymore?) It's not easy to translate what is in your head into a finished piece. It's a unique sense of satisfaction to see your idea become a reality. Thanks for sharing.
A Trip down Memory Lane. Not One of My Favorites but I Watched it. You've Evolved So Much since this Video! How about a Video of You or Mando doing a "Day in the Life" Style Story? You're an Entertaining Person, It doesn't always have to be about Furniture.
It's very unique and I like what you did with the staining. I was thinking that you might want to put a turntable under it so you can have better access to all the nooks. I love your work!
Crazy idea! Came out OK in my opinion. Not my favorite piece, but I don't think thats what this project was about. You tried something new and i'm willing to bet you learned so much about carving from this experience. Which means when you try it again in the future it'll come out even better! Bravo for sticking with it and seeing it til the end. It's not easy. Thanks for the video.
Your statement about the style of furniture you like reminded me of a small table a friend had that had 3 different tabletops at different levels. When you stood back from it, it looked like a bonsai with each tabletop being a clump of leaves and the legs being the rmtrunks
It's never too late to take drawing lessons 😊. There's software for furniture design or graphics. You have a furniture designer inside, Jay. It's just going to take time and effort to reveal. You have the enthusiasm and dedication to create beautiful pieces out of discarded, wrecked furniture...you can realize your own creations too! I''m sure Hugo was dismayed by your gluing pieces of wood together only to cut it up with a chainsaw!!!🤣
Well, I must say I’ve never seen anything like it before. Your commitment to making that table was great. I would have given up at the gluing debacle 🤣
It is very cool. In keeping with the meteorite look, I thought you might hollow it out from the bottom to illuminate it from inside - maybe next time 😂
Wow! I’m amazed at the artistic vision you have. I always felt you had talent from many videos from the past but this piece was a true design of your own. I will be honest it’s not my style but yours has much character n it was your vision. Jay, have to say you’ve showed much patience n determination to see this piece through n you didn’t give up. I really admire you for that. ♥️🥰🥰👍🌟🌟🐈⬛
Okay… I’m surprised that I liked it as much as I did. It looked VERY 1969-1970ish to me when just about everything had to do with space or the moon landing. It’s as if you took a meteorite and added legs for a functional piece of furniture. Would I have it in my own home? No. Can I appreciate it? Yes.
Hi Jay, very nice. This makes me think about the redwood forests of northern California, very earthy and futuristic. To enhance its organic aspects, I wonder what it would be like to plant small ferns in the open spaces? P.S. I have to confess, I am my mother's daughter... My very first thought was "who's going to do all that dusting?"
Jay: well,- this was a very unusual sort of piece. Very masculine looking. You were very courageous to take on creating this piece, let alone the mess you had to deal with. Good for you for making a dream piece come true. Carol from California

But won't this spoil the statistics on the contrary? For example, I have already seen this video. And in general, how useful is the practice of republishing old videos?
@ you’re talking about a video that less than 30% of my subscribers watched. What’s there to spoil? Can get any worse
@ I hope you're right, time will tell.
I loved watching this the first time. I knew I had seen it before.
I love it!
Not only were you an expert, you were also a PROFESSIONAL!!
Ikr! I love when he says that! 🤣😂🤣
Not a style I like but that's not to say you didn't do an incredible job. Excellent work as always. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly what I was going to say! It's certainly different, that's for sure! 🙂

Well, you most definitely made a very spcial piece of furniture! May you enjoy this table in your home for many years to come.

That is a stunning piece of work.
I am glad you re-issued this video as I had not seen it previously.
You have an artists vision.
Well that was surely an ambitious project. Well done! I love the contrasting colors and the organic shape you ended up with.
A very original piece. I love the contrast of the black & walnut. Mando should have a blast exploring it. It’s hard to believe it started from all that wood. I hope it turned out exactly as your mental picture, even if it did take “2000 years!”

Definitely needs a lava lamp!
Yes! A lava lamp would be perfect.
LOL, Maybe some colorful drip candles too. Definitely a far out vibe going on. Art has no boundaries.
only found you a week ago, have been watching your old stuff, this time i can tell you how impressed i am with your work, i like your attitude, oh and that beautiful cat.
Wow, thank you!
Oh & when you’re a famous furniture creator we can all say we saw you in your humble beginnings…you are a professional & fancy AF. 😎🦋
And now for something completely different! Out of this world!
I love how you are willing to try new things...get outside of your comfort zone.
Awesome, Jay. You jokingly always say that you are a professional but what you don’t say and truly should be saying is that you are a perfectionist. I’ve seen all your videos and knew this would be fantastic which it absolutely was.
I applaud your efforts and originality. If you like it, that's what is important! You followed through and finished! Congrats!

I like it. To watch someone's vision come to fruition is quite a wonderful experience. Congratulations!
The opportunity to experiment with lots of different tools… what a great learning experience!
I love that you’ll have a go at just about anything.
How wonderful that you were able to bring your vision to reality !

It’s you! It’s unique, you have patience, perservance and it’s congratulations to you
I admire your perseverance - the sanding was over the top!!! ❤😊
Beautiful and unique, the organic design hides the flaws from the cheaper wood… and the finish really elevates it to a high end piece. Great job Jay!
Brilliant idea & execution! The charred effect of the pockets looks very genuine.
I am certain I have seen this before
I thought that too
It is an older video but about 20% of my subscribers watched it 😅

It definitely looks like a piece you would see in Bilbo's home! Love it!
Beautiful work - love the finish
Surprisingly modern and nice looking. Good idea and job.

Even lovely the second time around! It looks similar to a morel mushroom! Excellent craftwork, Jay! 👏🏼👏🏼

Like it. Very organic. What a huge amount of work. Next how about using a large stump of a tree?
This was quite a brave undertaking. I see your warrior was observing, as well as your inspector checking the work. 😉🌞
I agree that the rain influenced the wood’s dampness. Did you get a dehumidifier for your shop? That might help?
Chainsaw carving.. heck yeah!!
I have total respect for your talent and imagination. Great job.

To get that fuzz knocked down, a propane torch ran over it before final sanding works. I used to carve a lot of basswood and it would get fuzzy.
