    jusy to clarify, as ive noticed in previous motor wiring videos. its not just straight copper wire. if u use copper wire, it will contact each winding and short out. Its MAGNET COPPER WIRE or also known as MAGNET MOTOR wire. its shielded wire, that has a thin clear enamel or poly shielding to prevent shorting. Just wanted to clarify that so your viewers dont use regular wire and burn out their electronics or fingers lol. besides that, i love ur videos. very awesome electronics life hacks and purposeful reuse!! nice,

  • @gadiensguide4385
    @gadiensguide4385 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    For all concerned, She is using Magnet wire (Insulated coating wire) not regular wires. You need to use magnet wire's for the internals of copper wyndings say for example in a transformer. the more wyndings the greater the resistance and torque.
    and please, I've read so many imbeciles commenting on her nails.. just build a bridge and focus on wether or not you actually want to help the project yet alone do it yourself or not.
    Peace and thank you for your marvelous ideas and creations @Creative Channel best wishes to you and family :)

    3 things:
    1. you forget to mention that amount of wire on each side should be equal. turnwise for smooth torque and weightwise to avoid vibrations and premature bearing failure.
    2. use copper base metal for brushes, preferably some kind of brass, because brass is self lubricating metal aloy and comutator will last longer.
    3 you might want to install another bearing on the comutator side, because plastic one might be easyly destroyed when you apply too much power to the motor.
    you could also measure amp rating for this motor free spin, under load, and fully stalled

  • @renyn21

    I'm sure this will make the motors much more powerful/ last to higher voltage. And about the nails, they're clean so I don't know whats up with the comments saying they are too long. When i used to play with things like this longer nails helped me grab things like little screws and in general I could work better. Anyway, nice video and work.

    for a proper high speed motor add a ball bearing case without neodymium magnets & make it 30 - 40 turns
    using a thicker wire then shown here will let it use more power.
    you also need to make sure its not loose anywhere as you do this.
    and mixing brushes could gain some speed as well having a silver brush on the positive side and a normal brush on the negative side this gives unmodified motors some pep as well.

    This will improve the rpm but not torque since the magnet is weak. Expect the motor to get hot since the bushings are not designed for high rpm, unless ball bearings are installed. Also the comutator will wear out quite easily since these type of motors don't use carbon brush. This however can be of good use for short time use every now and then.

    Nice mod, I never tried to change the coils wire on these motors. Can you tell me the formula to calculate the number of turns per coil according to the desired voltage and wire diameter?
    However, I have some experience with those motors myself for a long time, since I was like 6-7 years old and I started to pull those out from little rc cars and experiment with them, so I think I can give you two tips:
    1. When you re-wire the coils, I think it would be better (but harder) to start all 3 of them at once. This way the wires will stay better interlaced between the 3 coils and you will obtain a more even and balanced result. Now the first coil sits closer to the rotr, but the other 2 get wound on top of it and the windings are not so well interlaced, this can be seen in the video, and the result si a more imbalanced rotor, much of this is the cause for the louder noise.
    2. I don't think the changing of the bruses is a good idea. I used to change those a lot when the original ones got used, od the outside contacts got broken. And from this experience I know that after changing the bruses to something very similar to what you do, the contacts on the rotor will consume very fast, as the plain copper sheet ones are harder and less elastic and will grind harder. What I can say is that I have seen motors with original brushes that had small bits of charcoal/graphite on them, and I think that something like that would be the best brush upgrade.

    Use a thicker gauge wire and wind it the armature with lesser turns. The lower the turns, the faster the motor will run but with lesser torque and will draw more battery power or AMPS.

    • @laharl2k
      @laharl2k 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +jacob mitchell yeah but you lose torque.
      the limitations here afe the magnets and core materials.
      also the brushes might not stand the current so reibforcing them would be a good idea. i did it to una and could have it running off of 12v wwithout the brushes burning. it would still overheat after a few seconds but like i said that the materials limitation. they are not designed to output such levels of mechanical power, they are neither efficient nor capable of doing so.

    • @Qui-9
      @Qui-9 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time the brushes burn up and so does the commutator. In fact the plastic inside the commutator can melt and it's disfigured. If there's a load it'll overheat. This guy made impressive motors but they won't last long.

    • @laharl2k
      @laharl2k 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      KevinAshman
      you can stop the brushes and the conmutator from burning up to a certain degree byt toughening up the brushes like i did. The problem is they dont make very good contact and so they generate heat because of the contact resistance.
      Making custom brushes for the motor can lower it and allot them to stand higher currents without sparking which also generates a lot of heat.
      The main causes of failure for small dc motor when working out of specs is the brushes and commutator not holding up, the coils overheating, or the sleeves flailing due to high stress and lack of proper lubricant.

    • @Qui-9
      @Qui-9 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Laharl Krichevskoy Yup. Somehow using graphite brushes would be better, as would a multi-fingered brush for more contact points. Those could help.

    i have one question for you +Creative Channel .... what is the role of the diameter of the inner wire in this type of motor or assymetrical motor in another words, if we take off a wire of 4 mm of diameter and replace it by a wire of 9mm what happend to the motor ???
