    Just got my Sandman S out of jail. Range day today! I used the $100 promo through Silencer Shop to get an e-brake for mine while I was patiently waiting. I'm glad it seems like a worthwhile investment! Thanks for the info on here. Was looking for a little confirmation bias. Checking that box now..... 😃

    The part that makes that beautiful ratcheting sound is called a detent ring. Dead air had a batch sneak through inspection that didn’t get heat treated. The tabs worn out on mine in what felt like a couple weeks. They are waiting for the new shipment so hoping to receive my replacement soon.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I cooked my detent ring on the Sandman-K and must have retempered it to something. That sucker wore out smooth 😂
      Dead Air was good about replacing it though.
      And before folks start saying crap about the quality of Dead Air, I cooked the can with about 4K rounds of “full auto” fire. Way over use for the average shooter.

    • @Emoboijeffrey
      @Emoboijeffrey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man am I glad to hear your guys wore out too. I had mine for only a day and I immediately started to hear the sound change in the ratcheting collar. To be fair I was installing muzzle devices and checking bore alignment on 4 rifles. So I took it on and off a good 40 times maybe even more that day. So lowkey disappointed it was warn that fast in a day. And that’s not even from shooting it yet. Great video!

      @@lsvtec86 oh man I’m sorry to hear that, that’s not good! I don’t mind it for now. The lock up is extremely tight still. I read a couple threads on some forums about how they apparently state the “ratchet” click is for customers to know when to stop tightening and not necessary during usage. But still very not cool considering they have videos on their channel literally saying to email them and they will do an exchange for customers.

      @@CalebDowning I’ve only fired a few rounds of .300blk through my sandman s, but compared to my wolfman, I wasn’t the slightest bit impressed. It will predominantly serve as a .556 can, so, time will tell how well it does there.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Compared to the Wolfman, I’d agree. The Sandman-S is not as quiet as the Wolfman. But if you add the eBrake and shoot subs, the Sandman-S still sounded good to me. Supers are still gonna snap 😏

  • @jeebugorn
    @jeebugorn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    just bought one yesterday and started the waiting process. picked this one cause i wanted multi-cal, and one handed removal. i am building a 300blk pistol that i wanted to do a suppressor under handguard style, but needed to be able to detach it without removing the rail so that i can use it on other guns.
    just fyi, my suppress did come wrapped in that "cigar wrap" thing that you mention earlier in the video....and randomly had a morale patch from SilencerShop that looked like a helmet for an X-wing from Star Wars. even the guy at the gun shop was like, "huh, this is cool", before he handed it to me.

    Well, I kinda got one. It's still in NFA jail, but I get visitation rights. Love mine. Works great on my 300 blackout. As far as the lead thing, you're not supposed to run any soft lead rounds through it. Only FMJ

    My keymo mount failed and killed my can, it was a failure of the keymo mount but with that being said im going to have it sent back to dead air for repair. As for the sandman the flash suppression is terrible, which is the only reason i don’t recommend it. Under nods it looks like a massive flashbang going off. The rc2 i is much better in my opinion for that, i will say though the sandman feels pretty solid but im definitely mixed feelings on it

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Did your KeyMo wear out and stop “ratcheting”, or did it completely break some other way?
      I’ve found that DA’s customer service is pretty good once you get ahold of them. This year should hook you up.
      Did you use a 5.56 flash hider front cap on the Sandman? With the standard 30cal front cap it can definitely throw some fire 🔥

      @@CalebDowning it has to do with them wearing down, all i know is my two inner locking lugs give a false lock now. Feels locked but as soon as you fire its miss aligned, caused a baffle strike. One big thing I've noticed with my Sandman S is that I tend to get carbon locking with muzzle devices that weren't manufactured by DeadAir.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My favorite KeyMo muzzle device is the A2 from Forward Control Designs. I don’t clean it and it’s got a grotesque amount of carbon build up in it. That being said, it has gotten stuck a couple times. All it took though was grabbing the locking ring and giving it a twist. I never had to “shoot” it off like I have my Surefire can 😏

      @Caleb Downing very well could be. I know we aren't the only 2 that have had issues with them. I also know my buddy has had some carbon lock issues with his Nox and not his DA manufactured muzzle devices.

    This can, or a Nomad L. Mostly shooting 7.62x39 and 308 with a small amount of 556 thrown in. Which one would you choose?

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Nomad L is probably gonna be quieter but it’s also a good bit longer. If sound is your primary reason for getting the can then I’d choose Nomad L. But the Sandman serves very well on the calibers you mentioned.
      I’d also look at the Nomad30. It should be about the same length as the Sandman-S but it would probably son d better since it’s thicker 🤔

      How many rounds did you have through it when this occurred? Was this your first suppressor or have you had others in the past?
      Sorry for the questions but I have never heard of an issue like this with their materials or machining. I've had a Sandman-S for about 7 years.

    • @pierce702
      @pierce702 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CWHolleman so this was my first suppressor however I think that's irrelevant. It's not a complicated system (righty tighty, lefty loosey) i probably fired 200 rounds through it before I started having my issues. I had my first endcap strike. It somehow loosened up ( I believe this is where the mount became compromised). Everything looked good to go and dead air sent me a new endcap. Maybe 30 rounds later I had another baffle strike and the mount sheared. There's actually been quite a few cases just like mine if you look on forums.
      It was repaired and I've put another 700 ish rounds through it now and i haven't had any issues with the suppressor. I still believe it was due to my keymo mount backing off.

    The background light caught me off guard lol 😂… thought it was a joke 😆
    Dead air seems a little bit overpriced for similar performance to YHM cans…. The warranty is excellent on DA… but if I’m paying $1k + for a can with ok flash suppression, I’m going with OSS flow through suppressors.

      I hear ya Jo. I have a YHM Turbo K and absolutely love that little fella. Definitely cheaper than any other 5.56 can that I have but still a super quality can 👌

    Your supposed to put gun oil on the ratcheting teeth to lengthen the life of them.

      Absolutely. I found that out the hard way on my Sandman-K. A little oil/grease goes a long way 👌

      I’ve found any ol lube will work. Personally though, I like some high temp grease. It seems to stay out longer than oil. And there’s no need to soak it down… “a little dab will do ya” 👌

    The right to self defense.
    When bullets fly through the air, they do so at amazing speeds. The fastest bullets travel more than 2,600 feet per second.
    Explain how an unarmed person, confronted by a bad guy with a weapon or , baseball batt, knife, etc.
    A outruns a bullet.
    B has time to get the phone out.
    C has the calm or wherewithal to call law enforcement.
    The bullet travels over 1,800 miles per hour. To put that in perspective, it's amazing to realize that bullets travel over twice the speed of sound
    Explain how law enforcement is supposed to travel faster than a bullet traveling 1,800 mph to save a life.
    Even if they get a call.
    Sadly Innocent people everywhere are defenseless, when confronted by the bad guy .
    There is no superman or super hero like on TV faster than a speeding bullet to save the day.
    Why don't politicians who believe in firearm control give up their weapons and have body gaurds without weapons.
    This is why I believe in the second amendment and self defense.
    You are your own first responder.
    Call or write your local politicians and the ones in Washington to let them know how you will vote if they don't represent your rights.
    Please pass this message on to others.
