  • Cyrus Dahl never liked playgrounds, because there weren’t any swings or rides kids like him with cerebral palsy could play on. When Cyrus saw an accessible swing in another town he decided his home city of Wellington needed one. The problem was the council said there was no money to buy one. But Cyrus is a clever, resourceful kid. While his cerebral palsy means he needs a lot of help with day to day life, especially from his mum Kris, he is whizz with technology. He uses a large foot controlled mouse to compose emails, go on the internet and even edit his own homemade movies. When it came to fundraising, Cyrus wanted to go for the big money, so he arranged nationwide publicity to raise funds. This led to the fundraiser exceeding all targets and led to him winning a Welly Award for philanthropy, even though Cyrus admits he didn’t even know what philanthropy meant until he was nominated.
Made with the support on NZ On Air.
