Widower, Semi retired, I did 11day Alaska, 10day Panama, 7day W. Carib. & 16day Antartic, in the last year. Don't be afraid to enjoy life if your solo.
Norwegian does a solo cruising the best with the concierge that they use their lounge and bar area it's really good and conducive to make a new relationships friends and meeting you know different people
I went solo because i LOVE cruising but my husband doesn't. So i went alone and it was awesome. A year later i went solo again and again it was awesome. No more info needed, lol!
I totally agree. Solo cruising is huge now. The cruise lines are getting it, finally. Celebrity recently made changes to solo travel. Unfortunately, they are making it more expensive than it ever was. They are doing the opposite of what the others lines are doing. I crossed them off of my list
Thank you for sharing your reasons for solo cruising especially the happy ending! My desire to start is very similar. Exploring and discovering, meeting new people is something I want to do more of and since most of my friends either can't afford it or don't want to cruise, I'll be off on my first solo cruise hopefully in 2025! Love your videos, keep it up!
I have never done cruising solo, but have been doing solo holidays for a few years now. It's liberating and very enjoyable. And it's great to not have to wait on anyone. I recommend it!
Thank you for informative video. So glad your family member has recovered and is still with you! Looking forward to booking my first solo cruise as soon as family obligations allow. I have done a few days, domestic and foreign, solo and found I enjoy the experience. So have determined I need an extended amount of time to focus on just me.
@Becca734 I’m curious, what safety and security concerns do you have when cruising solo that is different than when cruising with others? I am interested because I’ve never been concerned about security on a cruise and wonder if I should be more concerned.
@@cindylou9293 I think just because I have never gone a cruise before, I would want to make sure that I was safe on the cruise. What I mean by that is like you hear stories of like people getting hurt, things taken from their room, etc.
@@Becca734 I see, that’s understandable. I’ve been on 34 cruises and never felt unsafe on the ship and you hear about a few people each year that have things “missing “ from a cabin but not the 10’s of thousands that don’t have that experience. I appreciate your response
Congratulations on your new channel...I've always loved your exquisite voice on TKR! I've been considering a solo cruise but the solo supplements are getting so ridiculous....and the Norwegian studios are closet sized...Princess Cruises sound more my speed, especially the way you described them.....
Oh whoa a TKR viewer! Thanks for crossing over and the kind words. So happy to be able to share my "other" passion in the travel a leisure space with cruising. Yes, NCL Solo Studios are pretty tight confines. I've lucked out with Princess overall and the double occupancy charge is really not that much higher than other cruise lines. I also tack on their Plus package and it comes pretty close to the same end costs elsewhere. Wishing you well on your solo journey. Let me know if I can help.
Such a helpful video! Thanks I usually travel solo. Sailed on a transatlantic in 2022 and several other cruises alone. Loved every one. I appreciate your perspective.
Before cruising, my focus was on art retreats; I attended a couple per year in various parts of the US by myself. Then I got word that a major art/craft store was sponsoring a cruise to the Bahamas and was lucky enough to get a seat in their week-long events. It was my husband's and my first cruise...and he HATED it. 😐 I didn't cruise again for 11 years, until another art retreat on a ship presented itself. I decided to go by myself this time. While I enjoyed the art classes, there were so many interesting excursions to try and fun events on board that I sometimes showed up late because I was busy riding the zip line or watching shows or playing games! My next cruise will be *truly* solo in that I won't be grouped with people who are attending an art retreat, which eliminates "built-in" dinner and playtime companions. Am I nervous? A little. But way more excited! Thank you for this video; it makes me even more anxious to get underway.
What a journey to come to the point of realizing it is time for a full blown solo getaway. The joy that comes in experiencing a cruise solo is so worth it. Thanks for sharing your story. Do you have a cruise already planned or are you shopping around still?
Congratulations on the New Channel. I'll be sailing next week in the solo suite program onboard the NCL Norwegian Encore and I have future solo suite cruises planned for 2025 onboard the NCL Prima Class Ships.
I would lov 15:17 e to start solo cruising, but would like at least a window so I would know if it was night or day. ALSO not happy with the up charge but have paid full for 2 with a balcony to join friends
YRS YES YES... so agree with you, thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful video... I retired from Qantas airways 2.5 years ago, and although have flown extensively usually with family or friends, now I'm free to do whatever I want, so have had 3 solo cruises as you said in the last. bit, no one wanted to come or couldnt get time off, so I then decided OKAY - I want to go, so embarked on solo cruising. I love a balcony cabin, but of late it's sooo expensive for solo travellers, next cruise to Japan is ocean view!! I find shared dining tble in MDR really enjoyable, I usually get there last, and introduce myself to all, and ask innocious questions to the group and they respond very well , usually resulting in a lively discussion about ports of call or generally where they live (I steer clear of political or religious - yep you know why) . I have never been to the SOLO traveller get. togethers, as do not want a romantic or relation ship dalliance ... they kinda scare me!!!
Good for you for getting out there to enjoy some adventures solo. It’s how I look at things now. If friends or companions are available to join me, great. But if not, that’s okay, I’m not going to miss out on the experience though. Appreciate you watching and your feedback.
I've seen times where nobody shows up to the on-ship unhosted meetups for solo travelers. Hopefully with ships encouraging more and more solo travelers this will be a thing of the past.
Which cruise ship? Does it leave from and end in NZ? I'm a kiwi, and would rather not have to book flights.. a 2 week cruise from NZ to NZ would be cool
NCL is making more solo balcony cabins available on their ships. The Prima and Viva have them and they've converted several balcony cabins on their larger ships into solos.

My cruise partner broke my heart on harmony, but I still love cruising.
What made me start Solo Cruising? My wife passed away.
Divorce made me start solo cruising.
