You can easily get too much aspirin from it, but I feel like it's probably better to use the natural form of aspirin than the synthetic stuff that Bayer came up with. My dad taught me how to make a whistle like that when I was a kid. We didn't use it for our tea kettle, we just ran around tooting it while camping in the mountains of Colorado. That was 55 years ago. Miss ya pops.

As a kid I learned from my father to make these. They were slightly different in design and meant for playing, we even were sliding the end piece back and forth when playing, trombone style. Since that time I have made them almost every summer because it is so fun and satisfying. I am 64 now.

Yep what an idiot. A guy i knew died squatted down carving his name into a tree with a very sharp hatchet, slipped and hit his arterie in the inner thigh. Too far out to reach hospital in time even with pressure and belt
My grandfather in Norway used to make us these as kids. I remember you can only make them during the right season when the tree is sappy enough and it has to be a special type of tree. He would always sing this song as he tapped bark to loosen it from the wood. Problem is I don’t know what type of tree that is or if we even have it around me…
If you remember what the bark looked like it would be easier to help, but of the trees I know that are native to Norway you're either looking for Aspen or a very young birch.
I have the same memories from my grandfather, from what i remember we use Seljetre in Norway to make these. It’s usually only possible around june. Good memories, i’ll try to remember it next summer 🙏🏼

(Chewing on the inside of willow bark makes an effective pain reliever. Don't chew or brew to consume willow bark/tea if you're allergic to aspirin) If you swallow willow bark it'll come out pretty much the same way it went in, it won't be a pleasant process.
