That scene with the Emperor was another one of those things they put in the updated version. Originally it was an old woman playing the Emperor (obviously a guy did the voice). It wasn't until Return of the Jedi that Ian McDiarmid was cast as the Emperor. Lucas saw him in a Disney movie where he played an older guy and decided he would be perfect.
@leroylowe5921 I own the Despecialized Edition of the Original Trilogy and that version is the only canon version of those films IMHO. Once Lucas started tinkering with these films in 1997, they weren't the films he first released, which are far superior to the CGI tinkering he did afterwards.
Regarding lightsabers, at first there were only two colors : blue for good guys, red for bad guys. But in the Return of the Jedi, Luke had to use his lightsaber with a blue sky behind him. So to see it better, the saber was decided to be green. Then, the lore was built to explain that different colors of lightsabers mean that there were different types of Jedi : Jedi Consular (Green), Jedi Guardian (blue) and Jedi Sentinel (yellow). Years later, when Samuel L. Jackson joined the saga, he asked for a specific color : purple, his favorite color.
Purple light sabers have been part of the lore since the video games of the 1990s. Samuel L Jackson was not in the know about lightsabers he just wanted his to be purple.
the color is dependent upon the type of kyber crystal used when building it, not the type of Jedi...however, when selecting the crystal to be used, it is usually aligned with the tenets of the role they will play...
Just imagine seeing this movie in 1980 and being left with that cliffhanger. And we all knew it would be 3 YEARS before we'd see how it turns out! There were definitely some people who were a tiny bit pissed about that...
-Mark Hamill had facial reconstruction surgery following a motorcycle accident shortly after the release of the original Star Wars. The Wampa attack at the beginning was partly written in to explain the difference in his looks. -The Battle of Hoth was filmed in Norway. Many of the Rebel troops were Norwegian cadets and trainees for their Home Guard and Alpine Rescue Brigade -Yoda is puppeteered and voiced by Frank Oz, who's famous for Miss Piggy from the Muppets and Bert from Sesame Street. -The Emperor is played by Sir Ian McDairmond, who wasn't originally cast until Return of the Jedi. This scene was filmed during the production of Revenge of the Sith for the 2004 DVD release of the Original Trilogy, alongside re-dubbing Boba Fett with Temura Morrison's voice. -The only people who knew about the "I am your father" line before release were George Lucas, Irving Kirschner, Lawrence Kasdan, Mark Hamill, and James Earl Jones.
Also, Jeremy Bullock the actor that was in the Boba Fett costume also played the Imperial Officer who was leading Leia, Chewbacca and C3PO, along with Lando to the shuttle to be taken to Vader's Star Destroyer
I could be wrong, but I believe the motorcycle accident (car accident?) happened after shooting the film, but before it’s actual release (during editing, and such).
@@callmeshaggy5166 I have heard there was ideas of a Wampa attack on the base that was cut from the script, but small remnants (besides Luke's encounter) made it in, like a mention of "those creatures" and a bit of rubble and supplies in the background. I have also heard, via videos of interviews of Mark Hamill himself, it was a car accident, and he got a broken nose and a fractured cheekbone. He usually downplays it, but I do figure those injuries are enough that it could have slightly changed the lines of his face.
In the Navy, I did my last fire drill on the submarine two weeks before I was getting out of the USN....we had "annunciators" on, which amplify your voice so you can talk to other people with a firefighter helmet on. Since they couldn't do anything to punish me for it (what will they do, kick me out? already getting out, lol), I breathed heavily into the annunciator to sound like Darth Vader, and I said, "Luke, I am your father." lol somebody said "shut up [my last name]." I said "search your feelings, Luke! You know it to be true!" lmao 🙂
@@neutrino78x Nice! I'm not sure what Navy says, but my dad was a Marine, so a hearty Semper Fi in honor of him. My brother's last port of call was Norfolk, he and his family still live in Virginia Beach. My next younger brother after him was USCG, and ended up staying down there too. Interesting careers and places to settle for a couple of Green Mountain boys from Vermont, I only got as far south as Massachusetts, but they give me a good reason to go south for the winter holidays. 🙂
A lot of people give Lando guff for double crossing Han and the gang, but if he had warned them Vader would have known instantly and made Cloud City suffer for it. Lando was between a rock and a hard place.
I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars and 16 years old in 1980 when I saw Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back in the Movie Theatre. The special effects were crazy and everyone in the Movie Theatre was Shocked and gasped when Darth Vader told Luke who he was. The scene where Princess Leia told Han Solo she loved him and then Han told Princess Leia I know was improvised. Harrison ford kept telling Carrie Fisher I love you back but it was not working. One Take Harrison Ford goes I know. He explained to the director and George Lucas that Han solo would say I know. It was agreed and that scene stayed in the Movie.
@@3DJapan I saw none and knew nothing of Star Wars, but I still remember in 1985 when we rented a VCR and got all 3 along with some other less memorable movies. I still remember falling asleep in the first one lol and then waking up and wondering how they had gotten all wet on a spaceship lol.
Fun Fact: George Lucas was heavily influenced by World War II, from the design of the Imperial uniforms, to the Millennium Falcon's cockpit being inspired by a B-17 cockpit, to the Falcon's shootout with the TIE fighters being inspired by WW II bomber footage; When the German 6th Army was surrounded and freezing to death at Stalingrad, the relief force that tried and failed to break them out was under the command of General Hoth.
5:41 These scenes were literally shot right outside of their hotel in Norway. They happened to be experiencing an unusually bad winter and this blizzard was preventing them from shooting, so they decided to get the equivalent of B-roll for when Han was out looking for Luke after his escape from the Wampa ice creature.
the color of a lightsaber is determined when the one constructing it, finds the kybercrystal that powers the saber. kybercrystals are usually blueish white, but when touched by a force user they change color, depending on the kind of connection the force user has to it. for example: the crystal turns blue when a jedi guardian touches it. those are very proficient in lightsaber combat, physically adept and good defenders and bodyguards. the crystal turns green when a jedi counselor touches it. they are jedi with great wisdom and a very deep understanding of the nature of the force. there are other colors, but you get the idea. red crystals are created when a dark side force user forces all their hate in a ritual into the crystal.
"The Empire Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams film score. Love that Boba Fett is blasting Luke, while simultaneously holding Leia during the hallway shoot out.
What’s interesting is that apparently there’s a deleted scene with Luke caressing Leias face right before han walks in…combine that with Yoda’s line “there is another “ I wonder what exactly were Lucas and the other screenwriters thinking
34:31 For the most part, the lightsaber colors are just a visual means of telling the good guys from the bad guys. But there is some lore regarding what each color means, though it usually isn't an indicator of who is more powerful. Essentially, the color comes from a special crystal inside the lightsaber handle called a *kyber crystal.* The crystal is initially clear and colorless, but the lightsaber's owner has to use the Force to "attune" the crystal when building their lightsaber. That's when the kyber crystal takes on its color. If the owner who attunes it is a Jedi (good guy), it'll turn blue. If they are a Sith (bad guy), it will turn red. And no, it's not like a mood ring where it's constantly changing color based on their emotions at that moment. So Luke's lightsaber wouldn't have instantly changed from blue to red if he had chosen to join Vader. And it isn't like Harry Potter's Sorting Hat, where the person doesn't know what side they're on until after the kyber crystal changes color. The color doesn't tell the user if they're gonna be a good guy or a bad guy. The crystal will take on its color based on which side of the Force - Light Side or Dark Side - that the person has already chosen to allign themselves with before attuning it.
Not ENTIRELY accurate and will probably confuse her when she watches RotJ. Officially, the colors can vary widely upon the Jedi and the kyber crystal used. Typically, the Sith will turn their sabers red, but it has been known that there have been orange and purple among some rare Sith. With the Jedi, blue, green, black, and even white are known with yellow being one color that the Sith and Jedi share (some imagine that this is some sort of indication of the support for "grey" Jedi). It is unknown why Master Windu has a purple blade (Sam Jackson had it written into his contract that it be purple. It was originally designated as blue and even some toys had a blue saber with Master Windu), given that it usually happens to Sith, but he is the only known trained Jedi to possess one (outside of the EU).
I love how the script explains things but one has to pay attention: General Rieekan Tells Solo 'because of the asteroid activity in that system it's going to be difficult to spot approaching ships'. Then later when Vader claims General Ozzel is 'as stupid as he is clumsy', we understand by coming out of lightspeed too close they missed an opportunity to sneak in before being discovered, even possibly avoiding it. Also seeing this in the theater is the best way to appreciate that POV speeder scene as they fly over those ridges. The eyes trick the brain making us feel like falling each time they cross, like a roller coaster.
34:40 George Lucas wanted to make sure people could tell whose lightsaber belonged to whom. He chose red for the bad guys and blue for the good guys. Different color lightsabers did not come until after he had finished shooting episode 6.
3:56 The guy talking to Han is John Ratzenburger who went on to voice many characters in Pixar movies. (Older folks will remember him as Cliff from the TV series 'Cheers')
An impressive reaction. Most impressive. I had to laugh at how concerned Tori was for R2 when he was in--then suddenly out of--the water. 🤣 Color of lightsaber indicates which "side" you're on. For Light Side and Gray Jedi (between Light and Dark), lightsabers can be of any color. But Sith and other Dark Side practitioners of the Force use red lightsabers. Tori also looked a little surprised at how Luke was saved after dropping into the abyss. He did pretty much make a three-pointer that Allen Iverson dreamt of, steering his way right into one of those tubes.
Great reaction, Tori! ❤I think your love of C3PO and R2D2 is adorable! And your response to Darth Vader's reveal was very entertaining 🙂Hopefully R2 next to you wasn't too traumatised by re-living his experiences there with you 😉 You have great colour co-ordination with what you choose to wear in these reactions too. Really enjoyed this.
Back in the 70s, I bought a fanzine (independently published magazine made by fans) that had a cartoon strip with the Wampa (the big snow creature) approaching Luke and Luke cutting off its arm and running away. The rest of the strip showed the Wampa picking up its severed arm and walking into the back of its cave where it has a little table set up with a little tea set and plush animals seated around the table. Then the Wampa sits down at the table a sheds a tear, obviously feeling lonely and wanting someone to play tea party with it. It was funny and sad and, of course, ridiculous. Wish I still had that fanzine so I could share the cartoon on social media, but it got tossed out long before home internet was even a thing.
@@billolsen4360 Even Mark Hamill said that he thought Luke was going to use his light saber to scare the Wampa away and shocked that the script had him cut off the Wampa's arm because that didn't seem very enlightened and in touch with the universe to him.
6:40 Hey Tori! What's the internal body temp of a Taun-taun? Luke warm. :3 24:10 The Trial of the Dark Side. Yoda said what Luke takes with him will be what's inside. "Vader" didn't lift his lightsaber until after Luke raised his. Luke went in prepared for danger and violence, and at the first threat immediately went into attack mode. Jedi do not seek out combat, but use it as a last resort. As I said on your previous video, without spoiling any other movies, lightsaber colors have changed over the years, but at the time of filming Empire Strikes Back, it's a simple "Blue good, Red bad".
21:30 "sleeping on the job Leia?" As a matter of fact yes she is. They've been in that cave for several days now. The Empire strikes Back takes place over several months maybe even a year. Yoda did not teach Luke everything he knows in less than a day. The Galaxy is a big place and it takes a long time to go from point A to point B without hyperdrive. That's what those transition wipes mean... Time passing.
I'm so pumped up now after watching this , what a great reaction from you Tori i can feel your enthusiasm coming through the screen 😄 💯 This is the darker middle chapter of the original trilogy and really one of my favorites . i like how it ends and leaves us guessing because these films were inspired by Serial cliffhangers films of the 30 's and 40'S we meet the wise and eccentric YODA . luke gets his hand sliced off and we get the iconic line No. I AM YOUR FATHER !! Now what next ? no spoilers but i think you'll love it as i did . Sending good energy your way Tori
It was a huge secret. No one knew about it until they got those pages of the script. It was the last scene shot before the movie wrapped, and everyone was sworn to secrecy. They all kept the secret too because there weren't even whispers about it in the months leading up to the movies theatrical release.
David Prowse, bodybuilder and actor who was the man under the Darth Vader costume had already revealed it in a magazine, but unlike today with no real internet besides bbs boards that only supergeeks used there was no way of spreading the info, so some superfans suspected it, but apparently the average fan had not heard of the interview. Lucas was still pissed though and wanted nothing to do with him after filming wrapped on Jedi. There were a lot of legal battles between the two as Prowse insisted he was the "real" Darth Vader.
@@D.D.-ud9zt He was never actually privy to that information. The only actors who knew that plot twist for certain were Mark Hamill and James Earl Jones. Prowse probably threw it out as a joke, or a personal theory, completely unaware that he was right. He was robbed of the opportunity to portray the unmasked Vader because he guessed correctly and talked about it to a couple of people.
@@TheLordofDarkness1995 I read an article in 78 where he revealed the info but you might be right he might have been speculating rather than saying that was how it was going to be. Whatever was said, it pissed Lucas off though.
Obi-Wan learned how to communicate with Luke after his "death" by training with Master Yoda. The actor playing Luke, Mark Hamill, actually had scars because he was in an accident. The actor playing Han, Harrison Ford, followed this up with a starring role in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Besides Return of the Jedi and the Prequel trilogy, I recommend watching the animated and live action shows
Fun fact: only George Lucas, Irvin Kershner and Mark Hamill knew about the I am your father twist, it was filmed with Vader saying Obi-Wan killed your father
NO u did not just watch this for the first time?! I'm about to punch a wall!!!! This is about to make my day! I can't tell u how excited I am right now!
32:45 - It was changed to "I know" because apparently saying "I love you too" didn't jive with Han Solo's character. Some say Harrison Ford ad-libbed the line while others have said he previously discussed it with director Irvin Kershner before shooting. Regardless, this scene has been an iconic moment in cinematic history for decades.
I was 9 when I saw this on its release, when Vader said “I am your father,” I still clearly remember the gasps and shock that went through the theater. The following year in the fourth grade, me and my friends debated endlessly if Vader was being truthful or lying.
The fight with the Imperial Walkers in the snow must have been the basis for the scene in the "Return of The King" where they take out the armored elephant/mastodons--same strategy, but with very different tools.
It is explicitly the inspiration for bringing down Ant Man while he is giant-sized in "Captain America: Civil War", complete with it being lampshaded by Peter asking Tony and Rhodey if they had seen "that very old movie" (which is ironic, because Peter is a Star wars fan).
Yeah, and we had to wait 3 more years for the next episode! I KNEW the sudden end would surprise you. You'll get your answers in due time. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, but I have to share a thought: parts of this where you just kept saying "Hey! Hey! Hey!" reminded me of an old Far Side cartoon about what if dogs could talk. The top panel was a dog barking at a cat or squirrel through a window, and the bottom was the same scene with, you guessed it, "Hey, Hey, Hey"! You were so excited by this, just as I always am. Can't wait for your reaction to Episode VI.
Back even before the movie was finished and the leaked title "The Empire Strikes Back" was thought to be just a working title and an inside joke/homage to George Lucas' love of the old adventure serials with their melodramatic chapter titles, I read rumors in sci-fi movie magazines and fanzines that the movie would reveal Darth Vader to be Luke's father, so when I saw it in the theater and Vader said "No. I AM your father," I just thought "Son of a gun, the rumors are true!"
I read David Prowse, the bodybuilder who played Darth Vader revealed some of the secrets including that one in an interview. In later years he acted like he couldn't understand why Lucas didn't want anything to do with him. However, Lucas still used him as he didn't feel anyone else had the right movements for Vader. He tried to replace the very tall actor who played Chewbacca who got injured and he felt couldn't delay filming, but when watching the daylies the movements looked too stiff and it was obvious he needed the original actor. He was allowed to heal up and the filmed other scenes in the meantime.
No.1 film of 1980, highest-grossing film of the original trilogy, among the greatest sequels of it's era and for all time. The ongoing story of good and evil in this galaxy is entertaining. Relationships between all the characters as these Star Wars wage on. Han & Leia's romance, Boba Fett's original introduction, the Droids' reacting to these events and also meeting Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) are all perfection. Luke's journey for me has had the biggest impression in the trilogy. His growth into the realm of Jedi. mentored by Obi Wan in spirit and also the introduction of Yoda (voice of Frank Oz) is a epic highlight that you can never take away. I remember feeling truly sorry for Luke as he discovers the darkest of secrets from Vader (Iam your.........) and totally knocked out everybody who witnessed it all. The effects, the original score, set design, wardrobe were so in the pocket. ESB also earned several accolades including 2 Oscars. More than anything, Episode V set the highest bar for the films of the franchise. Exceeding expectations and we expected the journey to end royally well with Episode VI.
Jim Henson Productions did the Yoda puppet. They are the same company who did "The Muppets" and "Sesame Street" Frank Oz, who did the voice for Yoda, also voice Cookie Minster, Bert, & Grover on "Sesame Street" and Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Animal, Sam the Eagle, and Beaker on "The Muppets"
Ohhhhh snipity snap. Tori and R2 the sass pot D2 watching Empire! My Sunday is complete!it’s funny you say that about the smell, in the radio play for empire there’s a whole scene with Han and Luke in the shelter where the funk comes up. Good stuff. That reaction and Tori’s like speak at the kiss is priceless. Huh, I just realized, the falcon flew up that space worms butt when it flew into that hole. I love when a noob reacts to the I am your father line. So nice to remember what that was like back in 1980, and that cliffhanger ending. You can tell Jorge was into old Flash Gordon and Buck Roger’s shows.
32:47 "I Would've At Least Said It Back" Well, Tori, that's how it was originally scripted. For Leia to say "I Love You" and Han to respond with "I Love You, Too", butter Harrison Ford felt like that went against the established characteristics of Han's cockiness, so it was changed to Han responding with "I Know"
I appreciate the unintentional humor in the fact that 3/4 of the entire movie, Han, Leia, Chewy and C-3PO are essentially running and fighting for their lives. Like for real, nearly every movie cut to Han and the gang, there are basically about to die, as they narrowly escape. Meanwhile, Luke is on the verge of a spiritual awakening, and R2D2… is straight up just chillin’ like a villain who’s out there running those mean streets of a galaxy far far away…😂
Lightsaber color loosely reflects both their chosen discipline and their level of expertise. Red for the dark side/ Sith, Green/blue for the light side, Knights/students generally having blue and Masters Green.
Red was the color carried by both the Sith as well as dark jedi. Purple is used by someone on the edge of both the light and dark (combine red and blue together it makes purple) Orange has also appeared in Ashoka to represent someone that falls somewhere on either side neither Jedi or Sith. Blue was the most common color in the Jedi order while green was supposed to represent a Jedi that relied more on the force than on a lightsaber. The dark saber was created by the only Jedi Mandalorian and yellow was originally a color reserved for Jedi sentinels who acted as security for the Jedi temple.
I still remember the first time I ever saw this movie in theaters and I was waiting in line as a kid. Some jerk shouted as he came out of the theater after the last showing ended, "I cannot believe Vader was Luke's father". I was too young to even pay much attention to what he was talking about or know it was a big spoiler. For all I knew at the time, he was just joking. But, it goes to show you that even back then, yes, there were jerks who liked to spoil movies for other people. It is much worse today with social media, but those people always existed. By now, I'm sure you were probably told this by someone at some point, but Harrison Ford ad-libbed the "you know" part of his dialogue when Leia told him she loved him. The script had him originally saying something else back, but Ford thought Han would not say that. There is a new canon novel called "From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back" that has different short stories of other things that happened during the movie we did not get to see, if you are interested. There is also a small part of a Battlefront novel that offers an interesting new perspective of a scene from this movie.
To freeze something to the ice like Luke's feet requires warm liquid, didn't see a fire. What do you think that snow beast used? Eskimos some times to set traps or lines uses urine.
The only significant changes made to this film were for tying the stories of the Originals and Prequels together, and there are really only three major ones. First, the Emperor's hologram seen in this movie. Originally, he was portrayed by masked actress Marjorie Eaton and voiced by actor Clive Revill. When the Prequels came out, they changed his actor altogether for that scene - Ian McDiarmid who first performed the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. And the scene itself was extended to, again, further tie the Prequels together, 'cause originally, the scene was less than about two minutes long (maybe a minute and a half, but the point is, it wasn't as long as it is now). And finally, Boba Fett. Originally, he was voiced by Jason Wingreen from All In the Family, but when Episode II came out, Wingreen's lines were re-dubbed by New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison. The rest of the alterations made to this film were mostly compository such as the Battle of Hoth. There is, however, one other notable change, and that's regarding the Wampa (the snow monster that attacked Luke at the very beginning of the movie). They filmed a scene in which Wampas attack Echo Base while the Rebels are evacuating when the Empire storms the base. They had created a Wampa costume for that scene that was also supposed to be shown when Luke escapes the Wampa cave, but the costume they used looked, in a word, STUPID. So ultimately, they cut the scene from the movie and decided to not show the Wampa in the afforementioned cave scene, aside from a couple of glimpses. For the Special Edition, a new Wampa costume was made, and so they filmed new shots of the Wampa in the cave. The new costume looks WAY better, honestly. Oh, and Han's "I know" was ad-libbed by Harrison Ford. The script had Han say, "I love you, too.", but Ford didn't wanna say it, thinking it wasn't fitting for Han. Speaking of, during the carbon freezing scene, there was originally a shadow on his shirt in certain shots, but many fans thought he was wearing a jacket. Nope. It was just a shadow. They fixed it, though, and removed the shadow. The shadow could've been from the dark lighting of the room they were filming in.
Separate comment again... Jim Henson, the man who first gave birth to the Muppet mayhem, was a big fan of George Lucas's first Star Wars film, so much so that he eventually befriended the guy, and the two would eventually work together on the cult film "Labyrinth", along with other creators. But anyway, I'm pretty sure it was after filming had concluded on Episode V when Henson and his team invited Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Peter Mayhew to be guest stars on an episode of The Muppet Show (which is one of the most memorable episodes of the show, might I add), 'cause that episode aired in February of 1980 (months before the movie came out). This wasn't the first time Frank Oz (Jim's close friend and one of MANY different Muppet performers) interacted with Luke Skywalker. I HIGHLY recommend watching that episode of The Muppet Show. You'll love it! Edit: Pixar voice acting icon, John Ratzenberger, also appeared in this movie, although it's really hard to spot him.
A lot of people are pretty harsh on Han for the 'I know.' response to Leia's 'I love you.'. You weren't by the way. But I look at it as the movie shows us a Han who has pretty much worn his heart on his sleeve about how he feels about Leia, and he's been trying to convince her to admit she feels the same way. A lot of people who watch these movies close together don't really twig that three years have passed in the Star Wars universe between Star Wars and Empire. Three years of a relationship developing that they haven't seen. Also, they couldn't get Han saying it back to Leia to sound quite right so apparently Ford went with that on a take and Lucas liked it. Coincidentally somewhere between 6 months and a year passes between this movie and RotJ. Probably closer to the 6 months. Because again, they aren't forthcoming with exactly how much time has passed 'offscreen'. Oh and being on edge at the end of this movie? Try waiting THREE YEARS for the next one!
Yeah, I lot of female reactors respond with annoyance to the "I know" response. I think that's what you would expect from a guy like Han. He isn't like any other guy.
Thank you. The reason Old Ben Kenobi didn't tell Luke that Darth Vader was his father in the first film, number 4, is that when the movie was made no one knew that. No one expected Star Wars to be the huge success it was, they might have dreamed of making more Star Wars movies, but for all they knew it would flop. So many things that come up in later movies are retcons or just hadn't been thought of when the first came out. So in the first movie Vader killed Luke's father, in the second he is Luke's father.
There are a lot of spoiler laced explanations about lightsaber colors out on the web. Generally, red is used by dark side of the force users. Blue is for Jedi Knights, and green is for Jedi Consolers, those who have a deeper understanding of the living force. Purple is for Samuel L. Jackson. 😀
I remember waiting for return of the jedi. I remember there were actual fights on the playground. Over weather, Luke was actually Darth vader's son or not. Kids literally traded Punches out on the play ground over this.
Now that all the kids are discovering REAL StarWars, maybe they will have a better understanding of why everyone that grew up with it dislikes what Disney has done to it.
Love your reactions, Tori! You're the Best! Now when this came out in 1980, try waiting for 3 years in anticipation of the Return of the Jedi to clear everything up!
Between Episodes 4 and 5, Mark was involved in a car crash that damaged his face, so they wrote in Luke being attacked on Hoth. I always wanted a shell for the front of my refrigerator shaped like Han in Carbonite.
Fan theory says that the "Cave" on degobah was at one time a sith outpost and that it was assaulted during the Sith Wars. In order to have that much dark side energy this seems a very likely explanation. the Vision Luke had there was a warning that his own worst enemy was himself.
Force powers are based on the users' personality more than their training or light saber colour, Forme IV: Soresu abilities like super speed, super strength and double jumping (changing direction in mid-air, noone ever gets true flight) is available to either Jedi or Sith that like bouncing around during fights. the Dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some might find... unnatural, such as telekinetic choking people, Force lightning, keeping people alive unnaturally, or even eating Souls but Knights of the Old Republic shows us that that even a Jedi of the Light side can use these same aspects of the Force.
That moment when Leia kisses Luke and the others (including C3PO) look on in surprise. Put a pin in that. Oh, and some behind the scenes scuttlebutt: Carrie Fisher did actually have a discreet romantic connection with Harrison Ford (he was married at the time)
Your lack of awareness of most of these characters is so rare, it made it so wonderfully enjoyable to watch with you, like i was back in the cinema again. Thank you so much for sharing with us
31:25-31:26: Lando really didn’t. Vader and his Imperial Fleet Detachment showed up before Han and the gang, and legit threatened them with death and destruction from orbit and from incursion troops. It’s very likely that if Lando refused, Vader may have ordered cloud city itself, obliterated or nearly everyone killed and detained-- especially, starting with Lando.
the big reveal in 1980 ... "No, I am your father." absolutely blew us away! then we had to wait for two years to see how that would play out. it was torture. Tori: " but is he actually ok?" No, he had major daddy issues at that point Tori :P

Han Solo: The only man in the galaxy with the balls to immediately try to shoot Darth Vader in the face on sight.
It's great reflexes, too. He has no idea Vader is there, and makes one hell of a quick-draw. Anyone but a Jedi or Sith goes down there.

Tori reacting to Star Wars on her own? Epic. I salute her. As for Empire Strikes Back, that was an excellent sequel for 1980.
Tori holds her own solo which is nice. She probably has to 'tone it down' when with others. :P
I would suggest that ESB is an excellent sequel for all time. The only other sequel that is as awesome, IMHO, would be T2.

Jackson said he chose purple so he could pick himself out from the crowd in a battle scene.
And so a new category a lightsaber was added too cool for you purple 😉
@@herbertkeithmiller And they called it Purple Pain.
the color is dependent upon the type of kyber crystal used when building it, not the type of Jedi...however, when selecting the crystal to be used, it is usually aligned with the tenets of the role they will play...
Just imagine seeing this movie in 1980 and being left with that cliffhanger. And we all knew it would be 3 YEARS before we'd see how it turns out! There were definitely some people who were a tiny bit pissed about that...
When Spielberg and Lucas ruled the movies. What a time.
They may have been pissed but...nobody forgot the night they saw Empire.

-The Battle of Hoth was filmed in Norway. Many of the Rebel troops were Norwegian cadets and trainees for their Home Guard and Alpine Rescue Brigade
-Yoda is puppeteered and voiced by Frank Oz, who's famous for Miss Piggy from the Muppets and Bert from Sesame Street.
It was a car accident, not a motorcycle accident.

Nice to see you so invested!! I wish I could watch this for the first time again. Saw it in the cinema with my Dad in 1980.
PS. Red lightsabers have been corrupted. Red = Definitely a baddie.
Watching with Tori is the next best thing to watching for the first time again.
"The Empire Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams film score. Love that Boba Fett is blasting Luke, while simultaneously holding Leia during the hallway shoot out.
Definitely I have a soft spot for Return of the Jedi as I was a little kid for the first two but, a teenager for the last of the 3.
Leia´s kiss to Luke it´s obviously to put Solo jealous. The real chemistry and adult tension it´s between Han and Leia.
Oh I remember that series so well.

An impressive reaction. Most impressive.
I had to laugh at how concerned Tori was for R2 when he was in--then suddenly out of--the water. 🤣
Color of lightsaber indicates which "side" you're on.
Tori's reactions are so precious!

Poor monster!
Luke should have had the decency to kill the Wampa. Now the poor creature can't even feed himself and will starve to death.
@@billolsen4360 Even Mark Hamill said that he thought Luke was going to use his light saber to scare the Wampa away and shocked that the script had him cut off the Wampa's arm because that didn't seem very enlightened and in touch with the universe to him.

24:10 The Trial of the Dark Side.

Well, Tori, that's how it was originally scripted.

Gotta say, I love your reactions, Tori. You get really invested in the movies.
This is the most emotive I've ever seen her and I'm totally here for it!

I am SO GLAD the "I am your father" scene wasn't spoiled.
Jackson. 😀
"I'm workin' heah!" Chewie's from Jersey???
Wow so this is really your first time watching this this is awesome and wow you get to meet the little green guy
I remember waiting for return of the jedi. I remember there were actual fights on the playground. Over weather, Luke was actually Darth vader's son or not. Kids literally traded Punches out on the play ground over this.
Holy moly!
WOW! Your inflatable R2-D2 reminds me of the Autopilot from the movie "Airplane!" ✈
Now that all the kids are discovering REAL StarWars, maybe they will have a better understanding of why everyone that grew up with it dislikes what Disney has done to it.
The guy who directed THE EMPRIE STRICKS BACK also directed 1990 ROBOCOP 2
Never tell Han Solo the odds.
You’re very expressive which makes for a great reaction !
Watching Ashleigh get presents is always a good time!
Love your reactions, Tori! You're the Best! Now when this came out in 1980, try waiting for 3 years in anticipation of the Return of the Jedi to clear everything up!
i remember when i was a kid in the theaters, the whole audience gasped when they showed the Super Star Destroyer "Executor"
Between Episodes 4 and 5, Mark was involved in a car crash that damaged his face, so they wrote in Luke being attacked on Hoth.
I always wanted a shell for the front of my refrigerator shaped like Han in Carbonite.
Originally, blue lightsaber meant “good” and red meant “evil.” It changed later (though red is always used to mean the dark side).
Run,run, run and Jump...I could be Your backpack while You run...
Hehehe... Love Tori's faces 😅❤
14:50 The Millenial Falcon?
What's the internal temperature of a tauntaun?
Lukewarm
🤦♀️
Nice to see R2 dropped by to watch his own movie with you.
He's an integral part of the Run to the Movies family!
11:08 Hey guys, you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?
❤️😹
the big reveal in 1980 ... "No, I am your father." absolutely blew us away! then we had to wait for two years to see how that would play out. it was torture. Tori: " but is he actually ok?" No, he had major daddy issues at that point Tori :P
At about 14:00 “The Millennial Falcon”? That’s the despised age demographic/group. You mean Millennium Falcon.
