  • I recently hit 3000 subs, Thanks to each and every one of you. Today I went to get the mail, and made you a video. Not all of this will be for repair, but there's a future project in here. I'm experimenting with a couple different fixed camera angles, let me know which you prefer.

      Tim Bird thanks. I never had an original xbox before, so I had no idea the controllers were designed that way

      Cool. I had one. A friend of mine won one of the first 10 available in the UK in a competition. it was so the cable broke if someone walked into it when it was stretched across the room. If I remember right a few of the instruments for things like Rock Band had similar.

      I got a Real Nice PowerA controller for xbox at a pawn shop for $1 because they didn't know how to hook it up to a xbox Since it was Missing the End. so I got It thinking I could just use a break away end to my normal xbox controller. Well No Such Luck the damn thing was a little bit smaller and wouldn't connect to the Xbox Brand end.

    At 13:59, that is an adapter/breaker for an original Xbox controller. The idea was that if you're Playing games and someone walks in front of you and accidentally catches the controller cable, instead of smashing the console into the floor, the controller wire would come apart.

    Hello ! Nice stuff you got there !
    When it comes to Dreamcast it looks badly, but remember that you got 3 of them, so you can always repaint one to pure white or some other color. A friend of mine had a classic Playstation that got dirty in similiar way, so he repainted it black, to resemble the - back then on top - PS2.
    The PS2 controller adapter looks cool, especially when you can use it with DC. Unfortunately it would probably be in use only for arcade games like fighting or racing, since it wont support VMU.
    Btw I also subbed to you today. Gotta repair my DC soon. Got the same problem with AV output. I was thinking of modding it and replacing the output with VGA and chinch, but maybe its also the bad connection. Cheers !

    Where Do you get those things from japan from?

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      eBay. I throw low bids on a ton of different auctions, and usually end up winning a few at low prices. Japanese games are typically WAY cheaper than the American versions, so if you're the type of collector who enjoys actually playing their games, it's a great way to get some good games and save money. For example, you can get Rockman X2 (Megaman x2) for under $30, while Megaman x2 usually costs closer to $150-200

      matthew hall Yep, I know the look of soot, had every white console ruined by all the soot. He's lucky it doesn't smell like they usually do

    • @matthewhall2758
      @matthewhall2758 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What it looks like to me is that there was probably a fire, then they let everything sit for awhile, eventually the smell goes away, I would be extremely surprised if when the consoles are open if they arent rusted hard inside

    • @smashstuff300
      @smashstuff300 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      matthew hall Insurance threw all my consoles away without me being able to go get them, so I'm not sure if I could've gotten the smell to go away. It's a shame cause I had a few really nice consoles

    • @matthewhall2758
      @matthewhall2758 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you, the fire was im the ceiling above me bed, so before I could get in there to rescue much they just piled everything on top of my bed and destroyed 90 % of my belongings. Luckily the next morning after the fire I was able to go in before the cleaners and grab my $800 pc that I built, I actually had to dissamble it and just basically gave everything a bath, hand dry including unseating the processor and ram and GPU, everything got new thermal paste including the GPU etc, it took about 2 months and all the smell came out though.

  • @loganjorgensen
    @loganjorgensen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Poor DC, who did this to you? T_T Somebody didn't play a lot of original Xbox. ^_^ The 3DO has an S-video port right on the machine so it uses generic cables, only cheap part of that platform heh. Sweet Dualshock adapter you got there.

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I never had an OG xbox, so I had no clue what the controller connections looked like. I was firmly a ps2 guy back in the day.
      If it makes you feel any better, I've already started tackling that smoke damaged dreamcast, it looks so much better now. Still alot of work to go though

    • @loganjorgensen
      @loganjorgensen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the first time I saw the break-away I was confused but damn if it didn't work, prevented my console hitting the floor many times.
      Oh it does, thought that DC might have to be scrapped for parts with smoke damage, that usually ruins most things.

    • @ZerodJailbreak

      Soaking it into water (few hours) for a long time may help to remove the dirt. Are you going to try to retrobrite it?

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timothé Dorez retrobrite works to reverse the natural yellowing of plastic from uv exposure. This is smoke damage, which is different. I've got it looking MUCH better, but still some work to go. I'm hoping to have the first repair vid for those dreamcasts up by the weekend

    • @ZerodJailbreak
      @ZerodJailbreak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      RetroRepairs oh wow! You missed out it was such a fun system. Yeah so the fat and s controllers had this stupid breakaway cable. Worked great with my dog. If you ever soft mod an oh Xbox you can cut the small end off and solder a female usb A cable to the corresponding wires. Then load the game files for splinter cell to a usb drive (there’s a list of pen drives that work with it). Then boom you can soft mod. Hold onto those ends though because I know I’ve bought six of them over the years because they went MIA.

      Oops should have said yes the control ports . I just got a 'new' Dreamcast as my primary and I've been lightgunning the other one last couple nights . All my controls peripherals need to be a little out not fully in

      That's odd, I would think there's an issue with your controller port, maybe the contacts have lost their "spring" action and don't contact the controller very well, as that shouldn't happen.

    It's not a resistor it's a 390 mA Picofuse. I am smart :) Hope you get them cleaned up. Maybe you have to replace the thermal pads after that.

      It's actually a fusible resistor. They're not really used anymore, so both are kind of correct.
