Another massive inspiration for the Star Fox series was the sci-fi puppet shows Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, they're old 60s and 70s sci-fi tv shows, the way the characters' mouth move like they do is in reference to how the puppets operated
One of the second missions on Ficina? I think? Its the first possible place to fight Wolf. That whole fight always reminded me of Echo Base on Hoth cause of the snow. Or the towers on Bolse look like the surface of the Death Star. In general though, a lot of lines from Star Fox 64 are just film tropes, with the most obvious parrallel being star wars. "its quiet...too quiet" is from more movies than i can count. However, a REALLY big nod to another movie (not star wars) is the big robot you fight at the end of Sector X. When you first "kill it" its health bar regenerates and it wags its finger at you and tilts its head. Its like a 1 to 1 recreation of the T-1000 doing that at the end of Terminator 2 when Sarah Connor is unloading into him with the shotgun.
Also goes without saying...its little Radio icon thing being the big red glowing eye is a Hal 9000 reference. There's probably so many little cheeky references all over the game.
Other references to Star Wars (I think) are: -SF Adventures arwing is the most similar to the X-Wing -Bill Grey is like Biggs Darklighter: That one old friend from our hero's past that you meet in a very big battle -Slippy's arwing in Command and Katt's ship are very similar to the A-Wing -Assault's aparoid missiles remind me of The galaxy gun (a Star Wars comic weapon from around 1995). Hyperspace missiles, tho i think that is taken from another place
Star Fox is Star Wars
Metroid is Alien
Punch-Out is Rocky
2:20 - the phrase you're looking for here is "Lock S-Foils in Attack Position."
Came here to say this.
I don't know how it went over my head for 27 years that Arwing is a play on X-Wing, it's so obvious
I love you bro but duh
Star Fox shall live forever. I could play it 100 times and not get bored.
@@KamikazeCash same here

These shows and style of them are probably best known most from the parody Team America
Awesome video 🤜🤛I love Star Fox 🦊 always will.
Same here and thank you!
Nice listing of these similarities! As a kid I had noticed a lot of these, being both a huge Star Wars fan and a decently-sized Star Fox fan
played starfox 64 since 12 years ago but only just recently watched the original trilogy, had no idea of any of this !
loved the video ❤
@@royeric5 thank you 🙏🏻

I was looking up that “it’s quiet” thing to include it but the exact origin is unclear it’s in so many movies

@@TomásBriceño-h5d Excellent contributions here, thank you. I thought of including bill but couldn’t remember that other dude’s name.
i'm 99% sure the montage shots at the end of return of the jedi shown at 5:12 were added in versions made long after the release of starfox64.
They were released the same year if I’m not mistaken (1997). Still, I don’t think it’s plausible that was an inspiration.
It was always strange that slippy was a man but was clearly voiced by a woman. Like, why not just make the character female?
@@BallerDan53 I think the only known female pilot in the game was Kat
They probably wanted Slippy to sound like a child to indicate he is the youngest and most unexperienced pilote of the team.
