mppt really shines when you connect youre solar panels in series of 24v, 36v, 48v etc rather than plain 12v parallel. Check the manual, max PV voltage of 100 volts dc, the charge controller converts it to 12 volts to charge youre battery bank.

Great Video, I purchased this controller (60 AMP essentially the same) for my boat and am OK with it. I use it to keep 400 AH lithium batteries charged, monitor with the BT2. My energy consumers use relatively low amperage except for the 12 volt fridge and that is somewhat low. My only issue is the Load terminals, they do not output voltage they are in the off mode all the time. It seems like the design is to output voltage when the panels are not powered (night), this makes no sense to me, unless you are simply using it for a timer after the panels stop producing. I thought the purpose of load is to use surplus energy when the batteries are topped off, that would be a great idea since the solar panels would not have any use for the solar energy after the batteries are at 100%+.

I just mounted a Renogy 100 watt panel on my minivan yesterday and have the rover 20 amp mppt controller. 35 ah mightymax battery. Yesterday was nice and sunny, battery was quickly at 100%. I used my 12 volt fan a few times and it was only drawing .67 amp. Night came. No load on the battery except the charge controller. 1.5 hours after dark my battery was at 94% according to the controller. Around 11:30 PM as I was going to bed it showed 92%. I decided to disconnect the panel and battery from the controller. Got up this morning and it's overcast and rainy but my panel is still giving power. Hooked everything back up and within half an hour the battery was at 100%. Is it normal for the battery to drain at night just with the controller connected? Edit: as I was connecting a 12v socket to the load, the positive solar wire fell out of the controller and touched the 12v socket. It sparked and I smelled ozone. Charger still works but the load doesn't work now.
Most will discharge by a small persentsge over night plus cold and things like they may give you a small drop 2% I would Nd we worry about mate . Also when the battery’s are not in a cycle the acids level out which is normal and you could get a drop off that to . As for the load it could have blown something in the unit by shorting it . Your lucky cos it could have killed the unit . Allways worth having a double pole switch in ypur solar cables incase you need to work on the system it isolates every thing coming in
Happy Place Camping now your talking old school there . Ypur giving our ages away . All these funky kids that watch our channels think we are all 23 years old lol

Allways worth having a double pole switch in ypur solar cables incase you need to work on the system it isolates every thing coming in
@@UrbanVanlife Thanks. I'm hoping there is a fuse in the controller and that was what blew. I'm going to take it apart tomorrow and see.
How does mppt work?
Yes.
We haven't installed solar. We're not really in favor of it. Least not at this time. Maybe someday in the future.
Yer it’s each to there own . I ran for years with out solar but now I have it I’m use to full power all the time . You get spoiled
@@UrbanVanlife Very true. Though no power is kind of a fun challenge.
Happy Place Camping now your talking old school there . Ypur giving our ages away . All these funky kids that watch our channels think we are all 23 years old lol
@@UrbanVanlife 🤣
How many solar panels do you have? Total watts of panels?
I just have the 1 panel on the roof it’s a 160
I have 4 100 watt panels and for some reason my rover charge controller said I was only pulling 21 volts from panels and like 5 amps. I’ll check it today to see total watts pulled but I wasn’t impressed. :(
@@fredtalk5736 connect your solar panels in series
What the heck dose equalize mean
What dose float mean
And so on
Come on man...?
Means you have a lot of reading to do and a while spent on Google my friend . . Boost float equalise are all parts of the battery charging process buddy
