Correction: As some people have mentioned in the comments, there was in fact a minor league baseball team called the Los Angeles Angels in the 1920s. A bit of an oversight on my part.
A lost short film from the 1920s that has immense historical significance is the first Little Rascals short titled "Our Gang," shot in January 1922 and directed by Fred Newmeyer. It tested poorly with audiences and was re-shot several months later by Bob McGowan. While half of the remake survives, none of the original is known to survive.

Regarding your comment on the Los Angeles Angels, prior to the Major League team that was created in the ‘60s, there was an Angels team that played in Los Angeles for many decades in the Pacific Coast League. They were the main team in LA. In the 1920s, the Angels were purchased by the owner of the Cubs, who built them a new stadium, even calling it Wrigley Field.
So Much of this early era was shot on non-safety film stock, thus over the decades, not only was the normal loss through attrition occured but Fire 🔥 has destroyed much of the copies that existed.
The vault fire in 1937 destroyed a lot of silent movies. Can't remember the studio involved. There was another vault fire in the 1960s also. Some silent films have been found over the years but around 75% have been lost to time. A full unedited version of Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis' was found in Argentina I think some 10-15 years ago.

Well, Movietone Follies of 1929 appears to be gone but Fox's all-star musical from the following year, Happy Days, still exists. It features performances from actual music stars such as the George Olsen band and 'Whispering' Jack Smith as well as those from Fox contract actors, like a self-referential song sung by Edmund Lowe and Victor McLaglen. But of course, that is a subject for The1930sChannel.
Meanwhile, keep up your great work. There are so many important films from the 20s that are lost that you can't go wrong whichever ones you choose.

I hope Jeannie Eagels lost sound film 'Jealousy' (1929) is found. I'm glad that a 'working title/piece' sound film of 'The Letter' (1929) was discovered recently in good condition but minus music, openning and closing credits. She was a great actor and I can see why she was considered for a best actress award at the Academy Awards of 1929/30. By this time drugs had a firm grip on her. What might have been if she hadn't died in 1929.
As sad as the lose of these films is, we can only hope that MOST of the films today meet the same fate.
It is a pity so many of these films have disappeared, as there is a renewed interest in silent films and their history. Thank goodness a British broadcaster did a 12 part documentary on the silent era while some of the people involved were still alive.

None of those people in "Hollywood: The Pioneers" are still alive. That documentary series was done in 1980.
"Hollywood" is tremendous; people like Louise Brooks and Eleanor Boardman were interviewed at length.

Supposedly there's another lost film starring Honus Wagner that supposedly also bears the distinction of featuring young Moe and Shemp Howard. It was supposed to have been made in 1921 when these two future Stooges were in their early to mid-20s.

I'm such a fan of your channel. Like you I'm a fanatic for the 20s. With your narration I hear your love and enthusiasm for all things 20s rings true.
Among lost films I'd like to see is Human Wreckage, with Bessie Love. Also Erich von Stroheim's The Devil's Pass Key and The Honeymoon, along with D.W. Griffith's That Royale Girl.
Babe's uniform is a legitimate PCL Angels uniform as they appeared from the start of World War I to the start of World War II. The color scheme was the same as the AL Angels uniforms are today. William Wrigley had just opened his LA Wrigley Field at the corner of E 42nd Place and Avalon Blvd in South Central. PCL owners were trying to get their league declared as a third major league at this time and "Babe Comes Home" might have been a sort of promotional film for this effort. There were also efforts to get at least one failing MLB team (the Phillies and the Browns were the top candidates) to move to LA.
Also, "Fox Follies" was probably one of the films lost when the studio's film library burned in 1937. Most of Theda Bara's films were also lost in that fire.
Many copies of films were found outside the U.S. Love TCM for the many back stories they provide .

Is One Minute To Play starring Red Grange a lost film?
You forgot to mention that it was shot in 70mm grandeur and 35mm. The color process was not technicolor, but, multicolor. This movie survives audibly by a few sound on film discs and a faded multi-color single frame of the dance number which is hardly viewable. Back in 1974, ABC had a documentary about Hollywood and they showed a film sequence with dixie lee she had a feathered chorus girl short dress outfit with a feathered hat. Could the film exist back then and they showed a scene from it?

P.S.: I think the reason This film didn’t do so well was because to me, there was never a more dreadful-looking leading man than Babe Ruth......sorry, but he’s even tough to watch in a sports short. 🤢
I'm obsessed a little bit with the original fox movie tone follies with a color sequence in the 70mm process. The good news is the sequel to this film survived the ravages of time and is in u.c.l.a. Whether the multicolor sequence is in color in that restored version is a question make.
As for Fox Movietone Follies of 1929, it would have been interesting to see how the songs fit into the "storyline." Even though the movie was not popular, the songs appear to have been, and were pretty widely recorded at the time. In addition to the songs you mentioned (That's You, Baby, Big City Blues, Walking With Susie), "Breakaway" was also one I recognized from the recordings on the Edison label (as well as Annette Hanshaw). Thanks for covering these lost films with excellent research!
"Lucky Dog" (1917). Features both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in separate roles, before they teamed up. This one may not be lost; not sure.
Just watched this and I am kicking myself for not having seen the other two parts! Have you mentioned the silent film "Peter Pan"? Magical. (Not sure if there are any pieces of it left, lother than the brief scene I saw).
✳️ Thanks to you, I found "Peter Pan"👍 I wanted to check the chemical used to get the sparkly effect (I remember my film prof mentioning the silver-albumin coating used on photos at the time.) The Los Angeles Angels were a professional baseball team based in Los Angeles that played in the "near-major league" Pacific Coast League (PCL) from 1903 through 1957. In 1921, the team was purchased by chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., the owner of the Chicago Cubs of the National League.
Was Babe Comes Home before or after he played himself in "Speedy", staring Harold Lloyd?
Both films were 1927.
"Speedy" was released in April 1928, so "Babe Comes Home" was released almost a year before it, in May 1927.
I saw one of the Babe Ruth's movies on late-night TV many years ago. Now I'm giving away my age😅

GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY: is still a lost film. Only clips and fragments have been recovered and that include some Technicolor footage.
Along with my friends, I was gravely disappointed when Kazaam didn't deliver. I think Shaq is a great actor but has never been given a good script!! So I tend to agree with you about athletes entering the acting world. But he does the best commercials on TV!!!

It seems to me that one of the few authentic sports champions to build a successful movie career was OJ Simpson, who was droll as Nordberg in the Police Squad franchise.
I fear these will never be found they will have deteriorated by now.

A not lost silent which would be no loss if it were was a 1924 version of Wizard of Oz. It looked like it had a budget of everything stolen. Stan Laurel was in it, and even he couldn't save it. I had it on DVD and it was so terrible I couldn't watch more than ten minutes of it. I gave the DVD to a friend who is an Oz fan warning her of the low quality. It gives her a weird bragging rights Oz souvinir!
