    Less than 10 minutes of time to throw a beautiful bowl. Skill. Thank you for this great video.

      If I wasn’t being fancy it would be much faster. Haha

    Matthew I really enjoy the voiceovers you have started to do. I’m sure it adds time to your editing process but it really helps us see you throw how you normally would while still getting great instruction…

      I’m glad you enjoy them. Yes it definitely adds time but it seems to be going well when I don’t fumble over my words too much

    Very nice! When my teacher demoed this technique last year he alternated the wheel direction as he pulled out so the facets ended up vertical rather than spiraling, but I think I prefer the twist - gives the bowl more of a sense of movement.

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I definitely want the twists although having the facets vertical with a widening effect would be cool.

    Matthew, thank you for giving us such a very nice and detailed training session. Those bowls are just beautiful and something I want to try when I go back to the studio I go to. How fun that will be. Your work is always so creative and detailed.

      I made two of these bowls today. The first was ok. It didn't swirl as much as yours did. The second I cut too deep so it was about to collapse. It was fun and I will practice more.

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recorded the trimming of one of them but not sure of the quality. I think that kind of video should be a dual perspective video. May need to plan one for the future.

    Thanks a lot. Really nice variation on Facet Bowls (that I also love to do) 🙂
    One thing that I have always found tricky is how to control the degree of swirl when you expand this - or any type of, texture cut cylinders. Very often they do not swirl at all. Sometimes some.
    So far, I have an idea about that it may be a question about how dry or wet it is. The more dry the more I sort of drag the clay and make the swirl. But then again, I am not completely sure that is the only - or most important factor.
    What is your experience with this? How do you get the most swirly effect?

    So maybe you can tell me the secret.... I just threw one of these and did everything "the same" as your video. Mine is just a lovely fluted bowl - no spiral? What happened? I'm sure I must have missed something..... :/

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it probably has to do with the down pressure while opening up the cylinder after carving.

      @@MatthewKellyPottery I believe you are correct. Upon reviewing your video again I realized that I started at the bottom and just bellied it out 🙄 I will have to give it another shot. Making that other one into a small planter! 😂
