- Hello, my name is Sam and this is the $100 - $100,000 bankroll challenge. We began on March, 24th 2023 with a $100 deposit on pokerstars, after grinding microstakes tournaments, we took our $1,330 and went to the live 1/3 NLHE streets. Bluffalo is a poker channel for poker players, most successful bloggers are mostly catering to the general gambling population.
oh yea the theortical growth kinda assumes an increase in production value but they usually happen at the same time and he's literally still trying things out. on a spectrum of production value from wolfgang/rampage to other large channels by straight pros like andrew neeme and others i don't think sam has to aspire much higher than a new camera and an editor/solid editing software with a style update to really just set and forget the video making process.

What's the logic behind the smaller open when the straddle is on? Given there is both a small and big blind in the pot, a 2.5x open gives better calling odds and given the straddle the effective stacks are often 100bbs or less.

I love how you played the AA hand on the 865ss board multiway. So many players would either blast off big for protection against draws or shut it down and fold at the first sign of resistance.
Yeah, you see that quite often. Get a scary Flop like that and 2x pot the flop. Just bet small and figure it out

SPR is getting lower, and the larger you open the less hands you are able to play. Suited 1 gappers don't like 10SPR pots

I'm not jamming for value there, trying to get a hand like AK to fold with that size.
Is $10 and $15 (straddled) the normal open in the 1/3 games in Austin? The 1/3 games I play the smallest open is $15 but a lot of $20 opens even without the straddle. Straddled people are opening $25-$30. I do buy in for $1k but I don’t view this as 300bbs really. To me the blinds are irrelevant in determining stack depth if everyone is opening $20.

He called a 4b OOP. It's basically AKdd and maaaaaybe KJdd, but his sizings don't indicate either

With a Flop like that the only wrong move would be to fold. If you never have flushes in your check range it can be a bit disastrous as well.
Interested in your lower suited connectors from UTG and UTG1. Definitely not on any pre flop chart I've seen. What is the reasoning here? In a $1-$3, Definitely a looser opening range, and I can see MP and beyond opening or calling with 3-4s, 4-5s, or 5-6s, as players tend to overcall face cards, and in MP most will assume your mid range, 7-8s, 8-9s, 9-10s, if they even include suited connectors or one gappers in your probable range. But 3-4s or 4-5s in UTG or UTG1? Please explain so I can add that play to my repertoire.
I open for smaller sizes preflop so I can include these hands in my open range. I only open these at a table that doesn't 3bet often. (A tough table you can expect a 3bet roughly 40-50% of the time when opening UTG) at this table its in the 5-10% range.
You need to be very willing to fold flushes this deep when opening these hands though.
Also, what is your bankroll at 83 sessions/vlogs in?

It was good that you won with your JJ but I think you should have bet the turn, if you don’t bet you are allowing your opponent to catch his over. It worked this time but I think a lot of the time you would have seen a Q-K-A and then you would be worried that he made it. And your would not have been able to bet the full pot. Anyways this is the first time I have seen your vlog. I have subscribed!
I'm out of position, and called a Flop bet. Turn lead makes zero sense there, we only see an overcard 25% of the time, and only a max of 17% will it connect with my opponent

The SPR is already shrinking, think tournaments, even with the additional ante money in, they generally raise smaller than cash. Allows us to profitably play more hands, and increase our hourly.
Realy... folding kq suited in position to a 3bet... i dont know bout that, i guess if you know the opp is super tight nitty...i would have liked a deeper explaination there
At 1/3 a rec's 3bet range is QQ/KK/AA and sometimes AK, player dependant. KQ is getting absolutely trashed vs this range.
I like your analysis for each hand. But the way you were playing on the first day wasn't the best. You played much better on the 2nd day. That KK hand was a gutsy call that paid off.
With the 77 I was surprised to hear you argue a bet for value. I just thought you’d fold out worse and value own yourself against 88 and 99. I was sad to see you lose but happy to see I was right when he showed 88. I’m a nit though so I don’t go for thin value often enough
I would start to consider checking back with bottom pair no kicker. Everything else is going for value

KQs much too strong vs a LJ open to not squeeze at very high frequency!
if you arent 4betting AK when deep how are you balancing your 4bets with your big pairs? At 1-3 it probably doesn't matter but will certainly matter if you strive to play higher
A5s, low frequency A4 and A3s, suited 1 gappers, and then some Broadway hands like AJo ATs etc etc. AKs does make it into the 4b range, but offsuit you really only get action from better, and fold out worse at deep stacks

09:00 don’t really get the river shove with KJ there. Especially when you say you’re trying to get KQ to fold, which it isn’t. Seems like you’re purely targeting AK which also doesn’t seem to fold much, and get snapped by anything better. Surely river just call makes sense with a hand as “strong” as KJ?
When he bets that size, I think his range is just too heavy on the medium strength hands trying to get to showdown. I don't expect to get snapped by something super strong very often
On a ten high board with 7s why didn't you raise? Felt like a good spot to sorta bluff it. He ended up just having 88 too

I play 1/3 a lot and the standard open is 12-15 dollars almost always 15. If people raise to 10 like 50 people call. It is like betting 6 in 1/2. I see you betting strong hands to 10. Don't you think if people will be flatting with hands like k9 off and j7 off a7 off etc you should bump it up to 15 with hands like kq suited or 1010? You can get rid of complete junk with 15 instead of 10 like 65 off or 63 off that will only nut peddle against ur strong pairs while getting value from worse decent hands like k10 off etc. Also I know its 5x which isnt gto but 1/3 is this weird stake where I think 15 is a standard open size when people can buy in up to 500 and stacks are usually higher than 1/2. Also you will get too many callers and run into weird 2 pairs if you don't get offsuit junk out of the hand pre or make them pay. But if you play 2/5 I still think the standard open is still 15.
If it wasn't inconvenient to the dealer making change, I'd raise to $7 or $8. I never vary preflop raises based on hand strength.
I'm not trying to eek out an extra $5 when I hit the flop and win the pot 60% of the time. I want to play as many hands as possible vs my opponent's and the small open sizes allow for this.
@BluffaloSam If you were playing a tighter range like more standard preflop range chart based on position would you be raising 15 or still 10? My standard open is 15 with all my hands not just top of range. And it seems like everyone is opening minimum or 15 like 95% of the time in my 1/3 games. You think this is bad? Or are you just trying to play more hands than usual so you open to 10 with all hands?
@adamo36532 Big open sizes should be the first thing to go, especially from EP. You can build the pot with 4 bets, overbets etc. I hate large open sizes
@6532 open sizes vary from table to table. Nothing's set in the rules. Depending on your position, action before you and players' profiles behind. When in the same situation at the same table, I always open the same size regardless of what I'm holding (people are watching!). Then, depending on who you are:
NIT - always opens large. And they better do (that way), b/c of their card selection and playing style.
TAG - opens mid to large.
LAG - opens small. Always!! b/c they play wide, all sort of craps, and they play opponents. Their power lies in a raise/reraise tool. Which requires smaller pots to start from.
CS - it does not matter how they open. They're gonna lose anyway! lol
So: regarding your stance, I'd say you're NIT.

When a player from $5/10/25 comes down to $1/3 tables, he is sandbagging...and all players are his customers. So: let them open large and reveal what they holding. He is rather going to wait for them around the corner and hit them hard, so they even do not know what hit them.

The KcJc hand you turned into a 'bluff'. I really, really didnt like your reasoning but I like the play for different reasons. Maybe your intuition pushed you towards that play and you just tried to rationalize after the fact. Whatever the case, people should not be block betting in cash games. Thats a tournament maneuver capitalizing on peoples icm fear. In cash all it does it cap most peoples range and set them up for a massive overbet with a smorgusbord of value and bluffs. Even not having the Ad was a good play on your part. he could have made that block bet with the Ad figuring he blocks nut hands and wont have to fear getting value bombed. So when you ship his Ad is blocking more bluffs than value cause a lot of broadway flushes wont settle for that small bet and if hes doing that with the nut flush hes just gonna look like a goof ball when he gets flat called by a weaker flush and wins the minimum

9 minutes in - KJs you have top pair decent kicker and the flush gets there. Why are you turning that into a bluff? I feel like you only get called with better (a real flush that got there). Why not value bet the turn and charge the draws? All real questions - I really don't like the way you played this hand, and I'm not sure if it is because you played it poorly or because I would play it poorly. With clubs in your hand, I'm definitely betting the turn to remove equity from what is now two possibly flush draws. I'm not worried about AK or even KQ. Definitely not ripping it in as a bluff on the river either - I feel like you leave a lot of value on the table in this hand and open yourself to getting stacked by better. I think you get called with a weaker K (K 10, K 9) or a Qx type hand with a smaller bet of $250-$300 and fold to a shove.
Typically with bluffs you do only get called by better!
It's just based on his sizings, I didn't think he was too strong, but I also don't think our hand is best enough at showdown to make the call. I think we do run into AK and KQ a bit too often, it is a 4bet pot and we are deep so those hands are absolutely in his range, I think he pretty much never has a weaker king here.
Betting Turn is too thin, AK would be my minimum value bet on the turn, king with weak kicker (relative to a 4b pot) is a nice hand to have in our checkback range

I agreed about turn bet. Turn check back was calling for troubles on river. And that's why V decided to bet. Then, an insane bluff needed to bail out (Nut flush was V range, damn it!!). Then, facing shove, V folded everything lower than Nut flush, I believe.
So: whenever you need an insane bluff to bail out, that's b/c you screwed up something on earlier streets.
Myself, V also played this hand poorly. If he had anything on turn, he must've bet it. (Maybe he was scared of a K??, if he had AQ (which very likely was the case!). Well, another lesson for him: DO NOT CALL 4-bet pre with AQ while OOP. Fish!
I wouldn't make videos past 15-20 mins especially if it's poker hands.
