This topper film is not as good in my own personal opinion as "topper returns"!!! The film with similar cast, plus Joan Blondell, Eddie ( Rochester) Anderson, Carol Landis, & that cute cab driver. The dog's name I think someone said was Astar, but in the thin man series his name was Asta!!!!! As soon as I saw the name Thorne ?

The (canine) actor's name was Skippy. Besides playing Asta in the Thin Man Movies with Wm. Powell & Myrna Lot, & Atlas in Topper, he was in several other movies & shows too.
It bothers me that synopses of the Topper movies describe Topper as a "hen pecked husband." Clara was dingy and scatter brained, but she wasn't a nag. Cosmo has a passive, non reactive personality that suits his somewhat dim and dingy wife perfectly. She does love him, and he loves her, too. Another "odd couple."
The audio segment of the film is running a few seconds slower than the video segment. Just enough to be annoying, particularly so for such a wonderful film.
Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!!!!!
I just watched an interview with Myrna Loy talking about the same thing. Comedy is more difficult, but drama nearly always takes the day. She said somewhere (can't remember....a country, or Europe?) they have the same awards for drama and for comedy, and keep genres separate. I thought that sounded like a good idea. She was so good at both.
I didn't get it that Cary Grant was in the beginning. But since I watched this I can see why !!! He may have been trying to duplicate sort of a similar role he did in "arscenic & olde lace", which the screenwriters & studios woul not allow. I like "topper returns" much better. Good for you. It's truly baffling that RO was all by his lonesome and the network kept us returning on a daily basis. Now, TCM loses more and more of its viewing audience with each new added voice (what do they have now, 5 different voices to replace him? What a waste of money, but then, that's how things are run today).
Roland Young always reminds me of the little man on the Community Chest cards in Monopoly. Had to edit~ that dog digging up the wannabe gigolo made me laugh out loud- he was relentless!
Roland should have won an Oscar for this or the original Topper . A comedic actor was always considered less of a serious actor than a dramatic actor , nor were their movies . I believe a great actor could do both !!
When tv came in my dad would always watch the Topper movies when they came on after the news. I'd watch them too and have been watching whenever I can. I'm 75+so take makes about 67 years that I know of Topper delighting multi audiences. They need a new oscar award for long term favorites such as this.
Let’s not forget the magical Billie Burke. Her voice was musical, like the tinkling of a bell. The way she says, “Cosmo.” Burke was born to play the Good Witch of the North.
Roland Young is priceless, I've never laughed so hard. Has to be one of the best actors ever. The scenes where he acts as though he's being pushed or pulled by a ghost are done perfectly, simply hilarious.

Many kudos to the memory of and his superb acting abilities. I doubt there were very many men who could have played Cosmo Topper so incredibly.
Leo G. Carrol played Topper on T.V. and I thought he was incredible. Also staring Ann Jeffreys and Robert Sterling in 1953 to1955.

I don't know of, and can't imagine any more perfectly matched movie couple than Billie Burke and Roland Young...they are a dream from comedy heaven.
