thank you that other bathing equipment you mention that girls carry - is a handful of branches of birch, oak and some others. You gather them in spring and dry. For the bathing you put them into hot water to become softer and then you litterally slap people all over the body in the hot sauna with that branches. It is like a very hadrcore massage. People come out of bath red hot and cool themselves with buckets of cold water or even frozen water in winter. It is common amongst slavonic nations
I love how your chemise turned out! It's really cool to see your interpretation of these 'bathhouse dresses'. I really love 14th century supportive garments. I'm non-binary and have been toying around with adapting supportive shift/kirtle patterns for use as chest binders. Seeing people make supportive garments/historical recreations like this is really inspiring (and informative/entertaining)!
Ah, this is great! My knowledge is mostly based in the Age of Stays, and as someone who's busty, my first question is ALWAYS, "Well, what did they use for support?" in other eras. 🤣 This is an awesome resource, thanks!
That slightly odd looking sponge thing makes me think of the birch twig bunches (called "vihta" or "vasta" in Finnish) that are still used in saunas in Finland 🤔 Why yes, we do sit naked in hot rooms and thwack one another with twigs to this day 😂 It's not as scary as it might sound, honest!
You said the Weeping Glass and I was like "there's no way she's talking about the Weeping Glass in Pittsburgh" but you were! That's a shop local to me and it's so neat to see a youtuber several states away support them!
I sure am! A friend turned me on to them and I have a few of their teas. I actually just messaged them to see if they were doing mulling spices again because they’re my FAVORITE blend and I’m almost out.
It looks like a very comfortable garment to wear. I really like the blue sash. I've had half my coffee allowance already so I have to wait a few more hours for the other half. In the meantime, I'm drinking water.
I'm trying desperately to make one of these right now so thanks for this! My kid made me sleep in the blanket fort last night so this morning I'm drinking very strong coffee, mourning my life choices and hoping my back will stop hurting soon :)
yay, my country gave the world the Bathhouse Babes! :))) I love those illuminated manuscripts of Václav IV. era :) Great job with the chemise, it was a joy to follow the video - thanks for the nice time.
I have a pattern I created for the bathhouse babes chemise and cut out before Pennsic and didn't get sewn. So it's in my pile of UFOs to be finished before next summer. I'm doing a new wardrobe as I realized I hadn't made new garb for myself in over 13 years. So yeah if my pattern works I'll be making a few of these for camp lounging in addition to wear as my base layer.
Yeah after making garb for 4 kids and my husband over the past few years, I want to make something for me. I didn't even get new garb when my husband became a pelican nor for our son's knighting (but that was done over two days and we had a month's notice but Pennsic prep so...)
Ooh, nice. Spring is just getting going here in the southern hemisphere, so it's great to have some summer wear inspiration. The finished garment is lovely, and would make an everyday summer dress with minor modifications. Plain rooisbos, brewed from a teabag in my manky old "A Room of One's Own" Penguin Books mug. 5:30 - I really like this piece of music, and associate it with cutting out linen for historical base layers after your shift video of a couple of years ago.
I was thinking it would make a pretty modern dress too! And I’m glad you enjoy the music; I try to strike a balance between similar vibes and not having the same thing in every video.
Hello there. I just had a peppermint tea with extra cat cuddles. This makes me wish I could sew without cutting too much. Many a garment has been turned to scrap with my quick sheers. Still learning.
I’ve been drinking a lot of water with Mio Energy in it, and Diet Coke. lol Yay for supportive garments!! Your supportive kirtle came out so well, and I love the blue silk sash! Way to use cabbage!
I'm pretty frequently going to reach for Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice tea with honey or some variety of chai blends. I have a strong appreciation for the flavors of cardamom and nutmeg and clove when mixed with black tea.
I am drinking lime Perrier. With a dash of apple cider vinegar. That looks cool for summer events. The year I did Pennsic in 87 I made garb based on "spring" by boticelli . They were also in their underwear but I didn't really care. Survival is more important, especially when one is from a climate that is much closer to the Arctic. I am currently knitting a mix of baby clothes and shawls as gifts. The new granddaughter popped out early this morning. She couldn't wait for grandma to show up.
@@OpusElenae grandma is secretly glad she didn't have to be in the room with the happy, messy event. I will be flying to nova Scotia on the 14th, a week before she was due, but sudden high blood pressure dictated otherwise.
Turned out great! The blue sash is a pretty pop of colour. 💙 An inspiration to attempt my own. Yes, as mentioned by others, your outfit would be complete with the leafy switch bundle 💚 🌿
Donating to the algorithm About to have water with fruit and a light supper. But, maybe a heavy dessert. I got gifted some delectable Danish sweet "biscuit" (cookies, but snappy thin & crisp)
ive been drinking lots of coffee lol. but most of the tea i drink now is from this amazing shop called alchemy of avalon. my favorites from them are anne boleyn (an earl grey rooibos with dried blueberries and elderberries), and uncle irohs jasmine dragon. very different but both wonderful. i also added some luster dust to a few cups to make my tea sparkle, because i saw you had a tea with that stuff in it, and it was so cool.
HEB orange sparkling water, cranberry juice, ice, a squeeze of stevia and a shot of vodka. This is an item I need to make just for everyday wear…as I get older, bras have just totally lost what little appeal they ever had. The arthritis in my hands makes corset ties difficult… I wear mostly dresses (save for when woodworking) and this seems a good solution. Thanks and let’s get fall here asap…Texas needs cooler weather.
For a modern adaptation, I could see using a separating zipper (heavy duty) and adding a loop of ribbon around the pull for arthritis-friendly accessibility! That’ll save you time and trouble instead of lacing!
PS - your video wher you wove the zebra stripe band encouraged me to dig out my inkle loom and continue the bi pride tablet woven band I have going! I'm like.. 3/4 - 4/5 done!
thank you

Amazing! Thank you!
We mainly use birch in Finland, but the tradition sounds similar otherwise.

Iced tea from a powder mix--very Canadian of me. This turned out great and I may have to put yet another thing on my making list.
