The place and music still exists in real EQ too, and it is free. You can just get it on Steam and jump in. For P99 you have to get the client somehow, ie, torrents or ebay etc, and then you go to the p99 and forum and download something. Then you can connect.
Ah, this brings back all the nights I would sit in Kelethin and listen to the music while drifting to sleep. I miss this game, but with that, the community I was in. There was just so much more comradery than there is in games today. I hope my heaven will be the years I played EQ going over and over in a loop. So many friends were made and I found myself through this game...EQ, you are sorely missed... Hunter Limsunen Des'Lune - Firiona Vie
I hated the expansions that fast-tracked people away from starting cities. The initial difficulties in travel was what made me proud of myself for surviving as a darkelf necromancer once I got to the Estate of Unrest... rest in peace, Micarst.
Sheryl Moore I FELT THE SAME WAY. They dispersed people too far apart for the good adventures that made EQ so awesome.. I blame the uber leet players who demand 30 expansions so they can Hardcore mode or wtf ever.
Does that by chance have random events like the guides used to randomly toss up? You know, where NPCs were animated by living people for a while that made up stories or odd little tasks to do?
Was a little Wood Elf Warrior. One day a generous soul gave me a Blackened Alloy Bastard Sword. 24/39! He wound up becoming pretty powerful in the end. Always went back home and gave out gifts to the newbies.
By Mithaniel Marr, this brings me back to the last night I played EQ. Hanging up my Fiery Defender was one of the saddest moments I've ever had. Even though I occasionally look back and peer into my childhood, I try hard to move forward. EverQuest.... you helped sculpt a very unique niche in the world. But you were also vastly ahead of your time.
Abolon, lv 56 cleric from Mithaniel Marr server.. I loved this game. My first MMO and by far the best I had ever played mainly because of the sense of unity with other players.. Each class was so specific, you needed each other.
I so love this song and game.truly the best of times.I would sit in kelethine for hours relaxing and helping newbs, when I was tired from doing raids etc.blessings and thank you always everquest
*nods in agreement* This music meant I was home and safe. Superstud ... It's been TEN years???!! NONE of the games I have played since have the same magic and awe about it. The community was awesome, but it was the real feeling of actually adventuring in a different world /..... *sigh*
This song brings back so many memories... the good old days of being 13 and playing EQ late at night with all your friends, being lost in the rain and dying to orcs. I have never been able to find a game that has made me feel the same way. Girls? who needs them, EQ was my first love
i remember being 7 years old and hiding items behind doors in this place for my other characters to pick up.....and also being really upset when other people found them and picked them up instead lmfao
Fantastic track makes me miss the original EQ was a lot of fun and wonder. Most games now are so much more simple and destroy the feeling of achievment you got from EQ
You sir.. are worthy. It's rare to find another person with this point of view. It is all about the community. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see another game like EQ :(
I know guys, not many people play it anymore, but everquest was way more of a game, it was a way of life, one where you could forget everything, even your problems and just drift away to dis world :), that is just pure excellence and sony have given us things that we will remember for the rest of our lives, those cherished moments :) amen
I was lost up in Kelethin the first time I found it, back in June 1999. I think I was lost up there for a couple hours and couldn't find my way down... Even the worst of times were the best of times.
EverQuest...the one game that made you fear going out. The world was huge and if you died, you were potentially effed. GOOD times. No MMORPG since has captured the same quality of good ol' EQ Classic.
i played this game first when i was 6, it got introduced to me from my dad and my dads friend introduced it to him(he still plays), and i played for about 7 years, i'm now 13, ill never forget the memories i have aquired from this game, thankyou
Still get goosebumps imagining the late 90's graphics being amazed by the random elf city in the forest. EQ is, and will always be the first, and best MMORPG. All else are fake ass copypcats tryin to copy EQs swag, This makes me wanna fire up Project 1999. Berse - Fennin Ro server
Green fog, staring into the woods, not knowing what terrible dangers await me... Good memories... They have marvelously remade this music with high quality scores for EQ2 btw
www.project1999.com/ - Relive the Classic Everquest Experience as it was from 1999 to 2001. Project 1999 is a free to play Classic Everquest Server, unaffiliated with Daybreak Game Company but operating under legal permission. Our goal is to restore the magic and difficulty of the original Everquest game, including the mechanics, interface, and challenges of Original Content, Kunark, and Velious. Project 1999 is the most popular and most accurate reincarnation of Old School Everquest.
I live near a fairly wooded area in Massachutes and during the spring and early fall we get quite a bit of rain and mist. I know this sounds weird and " though I did not have the pleasure of being part of the Everquest generation' I still can't help but hear this song play in my head as I go between the lofty trunks of the mapple and oak trees responding about my home.
a couple years ago they did release progression servers, which did exactly as you described. People BLEW through the progression like you wouldn't believe. I too have great memories of kelethin and greater faydark being THE zone to be in. all the auctions and such. But hey..they had to take the game in some direction, its just too bad that they couldn't replicate the feeling the game originally gave
@Rharzar Excellent! I am glad i could share that with you :). It will be slightly different (no hell levels!) but pretty much the same. I grabbed my old friends as well. I can't believe that i am excited to play such an old game as well
@swampchild WoW is absolutely NOTHING compared to what EQ was when I first played it back in 1999. It had community...heart....it was frustrating as all HECK....but it was also friggen epic. You EARNED everything you had. And it rings true what you and some of the other people commenting have said. No other game since this one stirred emotions like this one...and these melodies and music tracks take you back to those experiences
MeesterWolf99 that boner gm sirken ruined project1999... plus they went back on their word n changed shit around. its ez to play and lvl up. evn on red
im thinking of rolling a toon in this. I used to play eqoa for ps2.it was my first mmo. I adore it! I will be going back to it! I tried EQ classic once and couldn't quite get into it. I didn't like how i had to type everything like a MuD. I realise it was inspired by MuDs but i never took the time to macro. The trial version crashed 3 times and i never went back... As much as i love eqoa i owe it to myself to play this!
The difficulty of leveling was kind of ridiculous. Particularly the hell levels that were like 5 times harder. Sitting in the same spot for hours killing the same mobs over and over and ... Thanks God for LDoN, that actually made leveling fun.
You can also use a copy of Everquest Titanium along with the EQMac client, with a little big of magic you can relive Planes Of Power era Everquest right now, on PC, on sony's official servers.
@Cutterxx4 They had 2 progression servers, people blew through the content at light speed trying to beat eachother to progression. I remember how pissed everyone was when they found out that they were progression servers instead of classic servers.
...ahh man....dang..!!! some good memories love the feel of this song. Taking forever to level, and when you did it was worth it. ....but it was fun. Not since did I have that much fun in a MMO>
Everyone head over to projct 1999! It is a free to play classic everquest server! IT boasts 800+ at peak times! It recreates the classic experience up to Velious! Kunark was just released 3 months ago.
I want to play project 99 but you have to spend like 100$ on the game first =/ I couldnt wait till lvl 14 (?) so I could sell SoW's for donations. Yes sell for donations. =p Everquest was hands down the best gaming time of my life. So many awesome people met and great times. Takashii/Tribunal
What? Project 1999 is free dude. You just download it and its amazing as fuck. So much harder then i remember though lol. Like 5 hours of just grinding exp gets you from like 1 to lvl 4 lol
P99 has an official agreement with daybreak so they are not going to advertise for pirate copies of the game and officially requires player to own a legit version of EQ Titanium. In reality tho, everyone just torrents the game somewhere and play and the staff doesn't police it cause they can't. It's a kind of "you know and I know so let's both shut up" but don't worry P99 is indeed 100% free and quite easy to install :)
Man I hate that my actual EverQuest CDs that I have in my closet aren't enough. I have Everquest Europa which is everything up until Shadows of Luclin or something
You can find it online for free download but its a pain, Daybreak should just sell titanium downloads for like $10.00 that the p99 forums could link to. Would be so much easier and I would have paid in a heartbeat.
This song is the thing I remember most about Everquest back from 1999. 17 years and it still makes me happy.
I know your comment is old, but just getting back to this kusic.myself after 10+ years. Played EQ at launch on Solusek Ro.
You had to be there to appreciate the magic this music Embodies.
The adventure, fear, wonder, it was quite the time.
RIP Brad McQuaid thanks for the memories
miss the days asking druids at the lift for buffs before i venture into crusbone
Don't miss the days, play project 1999, it is a pretty full server and it is amazing.
sephiroth Cross how do I get on to this?
Play the prog server. We back at the lift buffing

+Reid checkout p1999 its fantastic, a very active classic eq server, 1400ppl on every night, final expansion velious was recently released
Well put. Hopefully I can be on your server in the afterlife man. Wouldn't ask for anything else.
I hated the expansions that fast-tracked people away from starting cities. The initial difficulties in travel was what made me proud of myself for surviving as a darkelf necromancer once I got to the Estate of Unrest... rest in peace, Micarst.

amen it's the struggle that makes it all worth it
You can experience classic EQ today! at velious expansion and never adding any more project1999.com
Does that by chance have random events like the guides used to randomly toss up? You know, where NPCs were animated by living people for a while that made up stories or odd little tasks to do?
Ahhh to be a noob again, aimlessly hunting bats and spiders beneath the city of Kelethin. Best game I've ever played!
my childhood
seriously it makes me nearly teary-eyed

This song touches me right in my soul. My first character was a wood elf druid.
Same here.

Midi music is the best. I prefer it to the updated music mmorpgs have today.

@@inventor_9631 lmaooo it's ok 7 year old me forgives you
Song brings back lots of memories, I remember being a low level and making a mad dash thru Orc Hill trying to get into Crushbone, ahhh...
Games are just games now, I think you mean when games felt like worlds.
Chills down a wood elf's spine.
+Kiros because a pack of crushbones is about to killeth him back to level 1?
oh man, so many memories.. I love this music

This is my favorite out of the bunch. This and the Kaladim one really bring the limited memories back to me.
This song is forever burned into my brain. I can't walk through a forest in the rain without hearing it. Not that I'm complaining.
Thank you so much for uploading!!!

some of the best years of my life playing this game...I miss the escape...I miss the adventure..
Such a classic
If i created any of the good races that weren't wood elf I'd always make the long trek back to Kelethin just for this.
Brings a tear to the eyes, what a beautiful experience this game was.

back when MMOs were fresh and new, and a virtual reality held unknown promises of adventure and discovery.
