I bought the ExMark 30 Commercial the first year of it's release and put on an hour meter. The mower was so fast and strong when new but slow and slippery ever since. I've had to replace a transmission after about every 110 hours of use. The first one or two were covered under warranty. The first trans was the best and every trans since has slipped much more and tightening didn't help as it was as tight as possible. They said they made improvements but all the trans have slipped more. The part number did change. I asked my dealer and he said they lightened the clutch to make it last longer but, I said like a automotive clutch, if you let it slip more, it wears faster so I call B.S. on Toro/ExMark. I tightened the cable so much to make it better it eventually snapped. I retired my mower to personal use after maybe 500 hours. Since new, I've spent at least $2000 on pulleys, spindles, bearings, transmissions, belts, cables, etc. It hasn't made a nice cut the last half of the use (250hrs+). Only the Kawasaki engine has been perfect, otherwise it's a lemon!! Avoid it at all cost! I wish I could sue! Later, I bought the Toro Hydro 21 Aerator brand new, from a different dealer. On every job after about 20mins the aerator slowed down to maybe 1mph. The dealer and rep said they didn't have a clue and because it cooled down by the time they would look at it they did not believe me. I showed a video and they said, huh, we don't know. Fluids were all new and full, and I used Premium Ethanol-free. I fought it for a while and sold it.

Hmm. That answered my question. I have the 30" Timemaster. I upgraded the blade synch belt tension pulleys to eXmark (the stock Toro pulleys are awful.)
But then, as of about an hour ago, when the transmission died on my Timemaster, I was wondering if the eXmark transmission (A - would fit, and B) was any improvement. Since I've got about 230 hours on mine, I'm guessing the eXmark transmission is no better.

A product called "Never Seez" is a good thing to have in your tool box.
Just a little bit on places you know might rust back together will make your life easy next time. Some are good in very hot places so there will be a temp. written on the tin or jar. Only costs a few dollars for enough to last for years.
Great to see you taking on these kind of videos!

I'll have to do this a third time. Takes about 45 mins - 1 hour. Make sure you grease well between the bearings and the hub. Mine seized up and dissappeared.

I have heard these machines are known for bad transmissions. I personally would stay away from them and just get some sort of talk behind but thats just me. they really seem like decent machines though. I would get the commercial model with the Kawa engine instead of the Briggs. personal preference.
