    National Lampoon was a popular humor magazine in the US, known for its savage and adult flavor humor compared to the more juvenile MAD magazine, peaking probably in the late 1970's and early 80's. They branded several great comedies early on, the first being the National Lampoon's Animal House.
    Killing the dog is on brand for the magazine. One of their most famous covers featured a photo of a worried looking dog with a gun held to its head, and a promise to spare the dog if you buy the magazine.
    The magazine eventually collapsed and the name was bought by someone who licensed the brand out to a lot of awful, terrible, worthless comedies, so the brand name by itself is no longer a guarantee. The Chevy Chase vacation movies are great, particularly this one and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
    Wally World is 100% taking the piss out of Disney. The owner even looks like Uncle Walt.
    Oh, and one more note. As Wally World isn't real, they filmed the rides at a couple of Six Flags parks in California. They're a popular chain of theme parks, a bit more accessible than the Disney parks.

      I could be wrong, but I believe the scenes shot at Six Flags were shot at the original Six Flags Over Texas, in Arlington, TX.
      I am not even sure if thry had started opening other parks yet at that point. Then Time Warner bought the chain and ruined the franchise.
      I miss the days when Six Flags was about the different cultures, not just Looney Tunes and DC Comics!

    The little man at the car dealership was Eugene Levy (American Pie,Shitts Creek etc.) who along with John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, the director of this film Harold Ramis and others, got their start on Canada's SCTV sketch show. Before the National Lampoon movies were a series of comedy albums starring many people later on SNL - John Belushi, Bill Murray, his brother Brian Doyle Murray (the mayor in Groundhog Day), Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase, Harold Ramis, and more. Don't let not celebrating Thanksgiving stop you from watching Trains, Planes, and Automobiles. It's all about the relationship between John Candy and Steve Martin.

    Chevy Chase’s physical humor and goofball incompetence is on point. Did you notice when he and Ellen are talking in the kitchen she is scraping the dishes off in the trash and he is wiping them off and putting them in the cupboard instead of the dishwasher? Stuff like that.

    • @NateAZ
      @NateAZ ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When I saw this in the theater with my sisters, it got to that scene and my oldest sister blurted out, "Gross, he's just putting the dirty dishes back in the cupboard!" and half the women in the audience gasped and many men just started cracking up. It was a great mix of reactions for that.
      Then later, when Aunt Edna, after finding out the dog peed on their sandwiches, just shrugged and kept on eating hers....nearly everyone let out a " oooohhhh!".
      I just love those parts, displaying the less filtered humor of the 80s.

One slice of bread down, mayonnaise then two or 3 pieces of Ham or Salami, then a slice of cheese, American or Gouda, or Swiss, then 1 more slice fo bread, some more mayonnaise, or mustard, depending two to 4 slices of turkey or chicken, another slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato and sometimes a pickle, but usually on the side. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent for you, but Hamburger Helper is an American product, a box containing quick cooking pasta along with a sauce mix. You add the ground beef (and maybe some veggies) along with some milk/butter/water, and it 'Helps' you put together a quick, filling meal (at least in theory).
    So, basically the Hamburger patties are made with ground up pasta & sauce mix (which is much cheaper than hamburger, but as Clark said, contains no meat)

Peanut butter and jelly is what I take to work (have a bunch in the freezer) and otherwise turkey with mustard and mayo or chicken salad or ham with ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, and all of them with cheese of course! Do burgers and hotdogs count too? Great thing about sandwiches is the variety.

I used to go to Subway a lot and found my favorite sandwich to be the following: Spicy Italian (pepperoni & salami) on herbs & cheese bread, no cheese added, spinach, tomato, a small amount of onions, a lot of jalapeños, a little mustard and a little mayonnaise. Sometimes I'd add oil & vinegar, salt & pepper or have it toasted.
    The theme park they were at in the movie is a real place, but it isn't called Wally World. It was Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. The roller coaster they were on is the "Colossus." I've been in it. It's very jittery.
