In older versions of D&D, lightning damage was actually associated with the air descriptor. Aela could have been an air/fire genasi and her lightning is just a result of that heritage.
Also weird point of clarification I imagine something similar to a burlesque sign with a beast folk before it was even mentioned.. I'm going to start wearing my tin foil hat when I'm washing these episodes
