Still, his judgment about the non communist Asian nations was too glib and he died long before China took back control of Hong Kong, and it is tragic how mainland China is strangling democracy in Hong Kong and never let it develop in any area under its control.
Hong Kong residents could not vote for their own Governor General. That person was appointed by the United Kingdom. All decisions were made by London. Who would define that as a democracy? It is true that HK was not a totalitarian state in the model of the People's Republic, but it was an autocracy. Alinsky did not accuse it of being totalitarian, but a dictatorship.
