    Great video. My wife got it for me for Christmas. Finally getting around to setting it up.

    I just bought one of these (but haven’t set it up yet) and this video BY FAR has been the most informative and helpful!
    Some questions (please)…
    - What measures the indoor temp, the control panel?
    - Can you add multiple, individual temp sensors for other areas of the house?
    - Does the unit allow more than one app user to log into it (my wife is also a weather geek)?
    - Does the solar panel require hard sun to power? I live in a very wet, nearly always overcast region of the U.S. and the only location I can place this is in a 80% shady area.
    Thanks again! Well done!!

    Ambient produces very good weather stations, for about 1.5 years and then the rain collector starts to fail. I love their console and the reporting to WU. I just wish they lasted longer. I've had 3 Ambient WS 1000's, that's the most expensive model, and all three have failed around the same age. Ambient has some great software, they should make a model that has servicable parts so if a sensor fails, it can easily be replaced by the user like the higher end models. I've moved onto Davis pro2, but it too has some very annoying features, like having to pay $50 a year for your data, expensive dongles to get it to report to the internet and then it only updates every 15 minutes to WU. A good case could be made for just replacing your Ambient station every year rather than buy the Davis. I wouldn't fault anyone if that is your plan. The sensors are a higher quality on the Davis, especially the wind anenometer and temp/humidity, but the differences are livable for most people.

      you need to do basic maintenance (I think once each 2 months) on your water collector (read manual) due to lots of contamiants etc going inside.

    Excellent review sir. I just ordered one of these and am expecting delivery today. It's so often very hard to decide which device to order because there is usually very little agreement on anything these days. I took a chance and ordered this one. I'm glad to see your review and feel confident I made a good choice.

    Yo man I really enjoyed your video! I just bought my Ambient Weather station and installed it. Everything seems great I have it approximately 20 ft or so of the ground the only problem I seem to have is my humidity seems to be steady rising. Accu weather for example says current humidity is 56% but my station has climbed to 71%

    • @epictimelapses5612
      @epictimelapses5612  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. It stinks that you are having those problems. Sometimes the humidity readings can be higher because the weather station is near trees. If you have another weather station or hygrometer I would suggest calibrating your Ambient Weather station to those humidity readings. If the humidity readings are still continuing to rise I would give Ambient Weather a call. They are extremely helpful.

    Doesn’t the sensor have to be mounted on the highest point of your home (like the roof) in order to get the most accurate reading of the wind speed? Because otherwise wouldn’t the wind speed measure inaccurately due to being partially blocked by your house?

    You did a mighty fine job of reviewing this product and now I think I’m going to purchase one. You made no mention of any additional mounting hardware like they sell on Amazon, do I take that to mean all you need is a post and you’re ready to go? Thank you very much.

    • @epictimelapses5612
      @epictimelapses5612  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are mounting the weather station to a deck I would recommend purchasing an Electrical Metallic Tube (EMT) 1 1/2-2 Inches in diameter with some 2-hole Electrical Metallic Straps for mounting the pole to the deck. I purchased my EMT at a Home Depot. If you are mounting your weather station to your house or the top of a fence post I would recommend buying some of the mounting equipment that Ambient sells. If you are mounting the weather station in your yard, you could just use an EMT, they are typically much cheaper than the mounting hardware Ambient sells and they work pretty well. The weather station Includes the U-bolts that are used to mount the weather station to a pole so there is no additional mounting hardware needed for mounting the weather station onto a pole or any other equipment you use to mount the weather station. Ambient Weather does sell some of their mounting equipment on Amazon and it is typically much cheaper. I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi, I was wondering if you know if I can use the sensor array without the console and just the app? Does the sensor array connect to the console and then to Wifi through the console or does the array connect directly to Wifi and upload to ambient weather from there? I don't want to use the console just my phone/tablet/website.

    It does not have a fan aspirated radiation shield therefore temperature and humidity is not accurate.

    What’s the difference between the 2902 and 2902SA?

  • @skipro3
    @skipro3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You provided nothing on how to connect to the internet with this thing. It took me a while, but I finally discovered a smart phone and a downloaded app are needed to somehow accomplish this. I'm sure glad I discovered this before buying since I do not have cell phone coverage where we live. But maybe I can do the app/smart phone part away from my home. Or do I need to be in the vicinity of the display? Or the outside sensors? Does it only work if my smart phone is somehow active and in range of the display, or the outside sensors?
    Yup, a big part of the installation is connecting to the internet.
    Now, with all that said, Ambient makes the WS-2000. Just like this unit, but, among other features, doesn't require a smart phone app to connect to the internet.

    • @epictimelapses5612
      @epictimelapses5612  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In order to set up the Wi-Fi on the WS 2902, The display must be in range with your phone and both must be connected to the same Wi-Fi. After the Wi-Fi connection for the weather station has been set up your phone, it does not have to be constantly connected to the Wi-Fi, only your WeatherStation display. Now I am not as familiar with the Ambient Weather Ws 2000 but it does sound like it requires Wi-Fi connection as well.

    I plan to buy this model. however, I have some questions before buying it.
    In case you do not have access to the internet or cell phone signal, is the weather station still storing the data?
    and if so, for how long?
    Thank you

    • @epictimelapses5612
      @epictimelapses5612  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The weather station is only storing data when it’s connected to the internet and it doesn’t save data on the unit itself

      Thank you! I did some research on the OZ Weather Station and it looks like it is a knock-off of the Ambient Weather WS-2902. To be safe I would go with the WS-2902 because with Ambient Weather you have great customer service and reliability. I have now had my WS-2902 for about 5 mouths and I have had no issues. Ask for a 12' x 2" conduet pipe. The mount is first most important to look at. If there are " U " Bolt Brackets it fastens on the side. I prefer a hollowbottom extender mount.
