- Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

When I saw the game over screen of dkc when I was 6, my blood sugar went low and quickly turned off the console, I couldn't sleep that night
Same here. I ended up whisking myself the first time I got that screen(and I was fricken 4)
I agree about the music in that scene. As a kid, I could make out "I've waited a long time for this," "Donkey Kong," and "no more"

I was scared of running out of lives in Donkey Kong Country not because of the Game Over. But because saves are so scarce.
dude trust me I thought they were in an oven too. When I was little I had a bit of an imagination, for better or for worse.
What might be notable to mention might be that for DKC2 and 3, the Game Over screen also doubled as the background for their Piracy protection message, along with an ominous sounding piece of music on the DKC2 one.
What scared ME was the Game Over sequence of Banjo-Kazooie. Ugly Tooty just made me piss myself.

The Donkey Kong Country Game Over Screen scared the living shit out of me. In DKC2 and DKC3 the game overs do not nearly create that dark atmosphere. In DKC1 I got my first Game Over in Winky's Walkway. With the dark gloomy atmosphere of that level added onto the Game Over (and the music does not help), it scared me so much I ran out of the room. I couldn't even look at the screen for longer than a few seconds until I watched this video.
Surely the avatar is much stronger. He/she has versatility, very strong stats, Veteran for EXP, and can support absolutely everyone. Donnel, whilst very strong when trained up, is a pain in the ass to train up, especially when you have to use a Second Seal to change his class from Villager to something else and get stuck with Bronze weapons again for a bit.
LOL, when i was younger I thought it was an oven too. I forgot how creepy Rare made their game overs. Another one that creeped me out the most was Banjo Kazooie

You're thinking of Creepy Good Endings, the one-off video where I took a look at games that actually made things seem worse with the so-called best ending. DKC2 was one of the featured games.

The thing that gets to me most in any game is the music. To this date I still find the creepy-chorus music from Super Metroid scary even though the music that follows it in the ending is one of my most favourite pieces on the SNES

Hey man, I really love this "Creepy Bad Endings" series of yours, I can't remember if you do a video about the graphic adventure "I have no mouth but I must scream", if you played the game, or even read the short story, Please do a video about it, that game has some fucked up endings.
About DK64's ending, it's even implied that the Blast-o-Matic probably overloaded and blew up Crocodile Isle as a result. The Kremlings do, after all, warn their leader about that potential issue.

When you're little, the weirdest stuff can creep you out. I remember being scared shitless of the dark water in the first Ecco the Dolphin. For the sequel, the light stayed more or less constant the deeper you went, but in the first it got nearly pitch-black and I refused to play it! And my niece, who's 4, is terrified of songs in a minor key.
So I can see why some would find these Game Over screens a bit freaky. Hell if I know why. Kids are just scared of stupid shit.
Honestly, the death sound in Yoshi's Island scared me. You don't hear it when you game over... You hear it every single time Yoshi dies. Like spikes, Lava, being crushed... But I think the spikes freaked me out the most 'cuz I saw him just lay there on the spikes... dead. And the black screen wipes over that... A true final curtain call.
The Donkey Kong Country game over screen creeped me out a lot, mostly because I played the Gameboy Color version, usually without enough light to see the screen clearly. Also the graphics were worse (of course because it's a handheld). This meant that when I saw the game over screen it looked much darker and creepier than the version I saw here.
What made it REALLY creepy was Diddy's eye, good glob, DIDDY'S EYE!
Yeah, the Donkey Kong Country SNES Game Over creeped me out too. For some reason.
My scariest moment in gaming was in fact with an old PC game called "Hugo". Before start, the first thing you see is Hugo´s family in the background, and the witch who kidnnaps them (and sorry for my bad english, I´m spanish...) standing right in front of the screen, and creeps me out with her evil laugh, and the game starts with that beautiful Image.

Looks like you were having fun with the Dkc3 game over.
Yoshi's Story also had a rather morbid bad ending. For the most part it's all happy and cheery with cute little Yoshis filling their tummies with delicious fruits in a happy go lucky pop up book type setting but if you lose the game takes a turn for the worse. Every time you die several Toadies come in and you get a rather dark tune as the Toadies carry him away to a dark gloomy castle and you are left to imagine the horrible things Bowser does to them in that creepy castle.
I would like returning to a good but abandoned series of you. Like "The Weakest Characters in Gaming" or "Boss Analysis".
Looks like Kiddy and Dixie Kong were put in time-out and Kiddy is saying, "Awww, can't you Kremlings just give us a spanking and get it over with?"
I'm sadder about Wrinkly Kong being deceased (I only made it up to the Gameboy DK games with Dixie :3) than any of the game over screens lol. Though that same one in a prison is in my game, but since GB had extreme restrictions on color capabilities, the red thing didn't happen. IF it had, I probably WOULD have freaked and also thought it was an oven.

the reason that the DK games look so good is because they turned 3D models into sprites, and it looked realistic.
The avatar still has much better availability, though. (Since joining Chapter is the very first one)
You should do a Creepy Bad Endings about The Witch's House. It's a short game, so it won't be so difficult and it won't take to long to end it. Besides is one of the most evil ends of a game I've ever seen. You should take a look at it.
You might want to make the annotation (about the prison cell/oven thing) a little longer, since it seems to just flash up, and is easily missed.
But I could see where the mix-up came in. Old fashioned ovens sometimes had those grill vents, which he mistook the bars for.
Because he hates DK and he's taking revenge. It's the same reason why Bowser would want to kidnap Princess Peach.
DKC2's kinda made me feel depressed 'cause I thought Dixie was the cutest thing as a kid, and seeing her looking sad in the corner got me.
For DKC 2, I always thought it was a jail cell, the bars in the background are like prison bars, and a harmonica plays.
Lol, I have never seen that game over screen, since I never lost the game xD a creepy ending for me is from the original Donkey Kong on the NES, that game over screen and the lack of music terrifies me, even in dark rooms.

I never played that game but I've heard about that ending jesus christ and that game from what I can tell from a let's play I've been very lighthearted for the most part
1 Was a bit creepy.
2 Wasn't as bad as it seemed.
3 Was heartbreaking.
4 Was like any old game, the hero defeated the bad guy or the bad guy succeeded.
My opinion.

Suggestion for more creepy Good/Bad Endings: A.S.P - Air Strike Patrol a.k.a. Desert Fighter, for Super Nintendo. Supposedly all endings are good, but one of them makes you feel *really* bad about your performance.
I consider pretty bad that after all that your mum has fought to save you from that kind of person (FUCK, she even rose from the dead) you end up becoming one of that kind...the ectoplasmical remains of her mother must be twisting in pain every time she kills a poor homeless

never saw the first donkey kong country game over as scary, and I thought the third games game over was kind of funny, but the second one more sad then creepy. something about Diddy and Dixie in a prison cell with the screen turning red like that made me feel really bad about not doing as good as I could have
in DKC2 there are two unnused sprites of Dixie and Diddy mouning, that is really creepy XD

Have you done Clock Tower for SNES? (or PSX, for that matter). Jesus, that game practically didn't even have good endings, but the WORST endings were still something else entirely.

Seriously, in the opening he's a plotting mastermind, then after Army Dillo, he's a ruthless tyrant, then at the pre Hideout Helm cutscene he's an immature brat, then in the final battle, he's a comical brute. As a kid, I never got really far, so K.Rool was scary to me. But in the end, he becomes a total joke.
Ahhhh... this is very scary game over.
And in the next game the game over screen will be donkey kong and all his friends crucified next to eachother.
Ah, Donkey kong contry. They scared me a little but i just enjoy the music at the game over screens. In Donkey kong country, yes, the game over screen is sad, and it is scary that you can't leave the screen unless you press a button. It's like the screen is watching you. People are terrified of losing in that game, even me. Diddy kong's quest. And Diddy kongs adventure game over screen isn't scary, it's just sad.
Actually, the strongest character is Morgan, since he/she inherits the stats from his/her father/mother, and has higher stat caps then the Avatar.
Then again there was game overs in this video but the main one he was covering was also a bad ending

Do Metal Slug 1's ending on Creepy Bad Endings! I'm not sure it counts as a bad ending (the only way to get a "good" ending is to play on Muti-Player instead of Single-Player) but it's still creepy!

There's really only one bad ending, and thats when you leave the island with Kuma (I think thats his name anyway).

Well, if what your saying is true (I don't remember the island falling but whatever), then in the Good Ending its just as bad because the same thing happens, except that you kill the mastermind behind it all.
I think in every Nintendo 64 Nintendo game makes you get a game over if you press quit game

Yeah, I know. But the series don't really talk about the bad endings of a game, but the creepy ending they have. Like the canon ending of Dead Rising 2, or the Breath of Fire II, or the Fire Emblem one (that isn't really an ending).

Actuallly is not that hard, you just need Lisa and Nowi babysitting him and he levels up really quickly, and you can just use a rift door for Anna to appear so you can buy the second seal.
(BTW, my Donnel (mercenary) took down Gangrel on his own with the bronze sword.
