I know I’ve said it before, but I will say it again: your channel is the best for learning social aspects about Japan. I came here first to laugh (and I still do) but I really keep coming back to learn more about Japanese society. You talk to the actual people, you make it feel like a conversation than an interview, and thus it is the best way to learn.
You’re a better teacher than most actual teachers and professors on international cultures. Keep it up.

Big ups to the call center workers from the Philippines. They speak English a million times clearer than Indian call center workers. By now they’ve probably put all the legit Indian call centers out of work and that’s probably a good thing for both parties because if Philippinos have it rough dealing with entitled westerners over the phone who can actually understand them clearly Indians would have dealt with far worse due to the frustrations of the westerner trying to understand the words through the accent. Which is probably pretty harsh for the Indian call center workers who can’t help their accent when English isn’t their first language and their native tongue has such a big impact on their ability to speak English clearly. I’m sure native Chinese, Korean and Japanese speakers can relate to that a little bit where no matter how well they understand English and can speak it the accent can be near impossible to shake. And over the phone may lead to situations where they have to repeat things often just to make sure the westerner on the other understands what they’re trying to convey.
In fact that reminds me of a funny story a Nigerian fella I’ve worked with told me. He had this job that required him to give out important information over the phone. He had the right engineering qualifications but when it came to the phone stuff his thick accent was troublesome for the aussies on the other end of the call as they had a difficult time understanding what he was saying. The managers above him were in a bit of a pickle as they had to tread carefully to avoid any racial discrimination blowback. One solution they tried was to give him a CD that was supposed to teach how to speak like an aussie, over the course of a weekend. Which was just laughable, I’m cracking up remembering hearing that story because it takes years to change your accent in a credible way and even for that you generally have to migrate at a young age to be immersed in the language and the culture and to adapt to it as kids do. Adults can pick up an accent a little bit over time but much less than kids do.

@@supersagarsagar I’m sure you would not enjoy call center work trying to deal with short tempered westerners. I don’t even have the slightest bit of shame about it because they are relentless and equally shameless in the way they hound me.

It's funny you should mention the "shyness" of Filipino men, because in MY experience as an "eikawa" teacher, i found that the OPPOSITE was true! So many Japanese men/students were the ones shy! From 20s - 40s, most couldn't talk to girls or have good relationships with them. Whereas if the Pinoy men were talking among themselves: "Wow! If only we were in Japan!" LOL!
I think it has to do with your confidence and humor, plus age. You look like an experienced middle-aged man, whereas he looks like a much younger man, hence not that confident enough.
Money too is the biggest factor.

I always had the impression japanese people are very reserved and don't talk much but I think many Japanese now are adopting more openness similar to other people like westerners and South East Asians and I feel that's a good thing. If more Japanese learn English and become more open I feel it will do good for them to have improved social lives.

I worked with Filipino guys on American oil tankers, and the call center comment made me laugh, because the Filipino sailors were always 'You guys are OK once we get to know you, but why are you all so awful on the phone? I mean, we don't call a call center when we're happy and having a nice day. We're already pissed off before we pick up the phone. Maybe people working the call center at a lottery Headquarters have a different opinion.

If ever I decide to emigrate and live in Japan, my prime reason would be not the porn stars or anime; I'd go because their disciplined culture is incredibly desirable. As a Filipino who yearns for the quiet life, living in the Philippines feels like living in the proverbial Wild West-everything and anything goes, especially if you're rich and well-connected. _"Bawal lang kapag nahuli ka"_ (it's only illegal if you're caught) is a popular saying here, and it's only said half-jokingly. Of course, Japan's no paradise, as many TH-cam videos like Meshida's will tell you, but if the question "why did you come to Japan?" comes up, this will be my answer. Put simply, I'd like to live in a society that respects the rules and the majority of its citizens are law-abiding, for starters.

Yey! A fellow Filipino in Meshida's channel. Thanks 😊 actually, it's the European women who find Filipinos attractive. I think it's because of the caring and nurturing nature of the men, and our skin color. Filipinos are not really that popular with not only Japanese but Asian women in general. But since we grew up watching anime since the 70s, and seeing japanese women clad in kimono looking very shy, and then in a skimpy highschool uniform looking very bad ass in a sword fight while still being cute, yep that's what Filipino men find really attractive...until K-pop girl group came 😊✌

I used to be a mech design enginer in a Japanese company here in Ph and we send engineers in Japan. The pay is good but not better than the locals.
Maybe not that noticeable because most Filipino men working in Japan aren't really into dating abroad unlike Filipino women.

Great stuff new subscriber here. Anyways I'm also a Filipino though I have American and Spanish blood that's why I also don't look like a typical Filipino. I'm also into Anime, Manga, Japanese Music and yeah I really love Japanese women cause they are really hot and these are the reasons why I studied Japanese and wanted to visit Japan once in a while and I'm also planning to move and work there and I also wanted to pursue a career in music in the Japanese Music Scene and that's actually my ultimate dream.

And one more thing, even if you speak fluent Japanese and make more money, do you seriously think you can live in Japan being constantly reminded of being an outsider? At the end of the day, it depends on a person’s priorities.

I love Filipinas! When I go to Japan I will be looking for FIlipnas to date. They seem to be more down to earth and know their worth, seems like Japanese women have an over inflated sense of worth.
