Everybody who got autism from ScareTheater's videos raise your hand. Or anybody who watches ScareTheater's videos because of their existing autism. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure they've made me more autistic.
"Unless its mine" that absolutely cracked me lmao. It hit like that huge knockout blow you don't see coming. The seriousness you put on it just made it so much better lol
I remember when I was a depressed and bullied 14 year old I watched "respawn subliminals" . Basically a subliminal that promised it'd make you die in your sleep and be reborn in a perfect reality. Really sad in hindsight and I'm glad I got out of that lol
as someone who is in that "not disabled enough" limbo i get what theyre going through. i often get intrusive thoughts about how i wish i was sicker or more disabled so i could get the treatment i need. i currently cannot get support or mobility aids bc the government deem me "too healthy" and if my health was this bad while i was younger i definately wouldve been a user of the underground subliminals.
It still doesn't make sense to me, because even if we're in some fantasy world where we can just wish for anything to happen, wouldn't it make more sense to just wish for the disability to be cured completely?
@@ScareTheater im sure it does make sense however that is entirely less likely than it gettign worse, and while some people wish to subliminally change the impossible most just want a slight change.
@@ScareTheater These sorts of thoughts are emotional not logical. Someone who is trying to use subliminal messages to make their situation worse probably is well past the point of being able to believe it could ever just get better. They've lost all hope of that happening and can't allow themselves to believe in it anymore. But maybe if it got worse, someone would take them seriously and they could at least get help for it...and then maybe it would get better, in an indirect way. It doesn't make any logical sense, but it's a weird way for the mind to try to give itself hope in a hopeless situation. And honestly I don't think many people using subliminals are thinking very logically in the first place, so I would expect a lot of emotional reasoning in that community that doesn't make much sense if you think about it too much.
@@ScareTheater most humans are irrational, emotional creatures. they behave with their feelings and instincts in mind usually, not caring much for what is deemed the truth by the world and it’s inhabitants. humans are at the end of the day animals after all.
@ScareTheater Similar situation to the person you responded to. I am disabled, but not "enough" to get supports I need. I never knew about or got into these subliminals, but I would liken it to intrusive thoughts spurned from depression. You know how depression can make you feel everyone would be better off without you? I imagine it's like that. I also don't think users fully believe it's gonna work. It's a desperate cry for help/attention in a way. I think this is why you found some people comparing it to a form of self harm. Also, on the flip side, it's easier to believe in a condition getting worse than getting cured. We consider it a miracle or scientific breakthrough when an incurable disability or disease just suddenly goes away, but when it gets worse? Nobody bats an eye. That's normal, expected, and just unfortunate. So, it takes less of a leap in logic to believe some random subliminal can make your situation worse than it does to believe it can cure you.
Good video, but I want to clarify something said around 13:18. I have personal experience feeling this way because of my own traumas, and I believe the kids doing this are using it as a cry for help to actually be taken seriously for their issues and trauma, because it may have been downplayed or not seen as "bad" as more extreme versions of their issues. The kids could even have the desire to have more pain inflicted on them to make it "worse", which is a very common symptom of someone who has been seriously traumatized to be listened to and given the help they need, even if to a non traumatized person it may seem counterintuitive. It may be kids wanting attention, but it's still attention to take seriously because so many are clearly suffering.
I wish therapy and mental health education was more accessible so people would have less reason to resort to this kind of coping mechanism, it sucks :(
I had this with my eating disorder! I wanted to be taken seriously and saw other people who were in pain giving themselves EDs, so I did too. There’s a misconception that if you do something for attention you’re cringe and bad and are misrepresenting the mentally ill, but honestly most of us do crap for attention and that doesn’t make us any less ill
@emilydavis162 if anything it makes you more ill. i wish people would use critical thinking when it comes to things like this. if someone is hurting themselves for attention, then there is something seriously wrong and they need someone to pay attention so that they can get the help they so desperately need. no ok person would cause themselves harm just to get attention. but no, instead most people just dismiss them as simply edgy attention seekers. the obvious cries for help go unheard by many, and things continue to get worse.
Well said. When I was at my lowest w depression and anxiety, I didnt listen to subliminals, but I always had the idea that I was not taken seriously or people thought I was faking it, just because it was very difficult to get support. When I officially got my diagnoses of course that went away, and I am 1 year on medication! But I could %100 children and young teens watching them to cope. Its very sad
Literally this though!! We demonize people crying out for help via trying to get attention so badly, if someone’s doing something like that then it means they want someone to notice and see them.
I used underground subliminals and joined a couple subliminal messaging communities when I was in high school (in college now and I'm normal now lol). I used subliminals for a couple years because I was super insecure and wanted an easy way to help me lose weight, increase my intelligence, gain confidence, have men pay more attention to me, etc. I listened to custom playlists, boosters, even tried to make my own and paid for other people to make them for me. It eventually led me to underground subliminals, ones that promised 10+ lb weight loss in a day, having your teacher fall in love with you (as a minor!), even race changing and ones that could supposedly have a person of your choice dëad like death note lol. Now the subliminals themselves weren't harmful but the communities that formed around them were because all they did was enable each other's delusions and to take more extreme measures to achieve them. A lot of the people I knew in these communities were teen girls like myself who were already suffering with mental illness and they were surrounded with other mentally ill girls. A couple of the girls I knew in the community were in relationships with pëdophiles and used subliminals to make those men want them more and do sëxüal acts with them (as if lol). Most people who used these subliminials were probably just insecure kids like me, who wanted to escape from what made them insecure but dont know how. Thank you for the video Eric.
oh my, i didnt even knew that this existed for so long :o as i once stumbled upon it last year, i think, or bit older than one year ago, and ofc i stmbled upon some ug subliminals about mental ilnesses xd but thankfully, i wasnt immersed in it too much, as i didnt interact there too much and wasnt given any attention(as usual xd) so that and smth else, i forgot, made me forgot about the subliminals slowly. and im glad, so when i saw that title and then the video, i was shocked to see that i know smth about it finally . and im glad i didnt encounter any most worst subliminals, just some thing with mental ilnesses but that clearly didnt change anything so it made everything pointless to continue that xd
@@joyboyyy I'm glad you got out of that community & mindset as soon as you could friend. I can say from my own experience that using subliminals definitely worsened my mental health and only when I stopped using them did I begin to focus on finding real ways to get what I wanted. I was always insecure about my weight so I would listen to subliminals that promised 10 lb weight loss over night and I even found one subliminal that was used for developing anörexia to look skinnier (which obviously wouldn't work, but could lead someone down that mindset to achieve that). I didn't start losing weight until I started doing the steps that took more effort than listening to some videos, like being mindful of the things I ate and put in my body & exercising more often. A lot of the problems that people use subliminals as the solution for can actually be solved through other means that require more work, and the sooner people realize that the sooner they can actually begin working on themselves.
@@safiyaalove that concept was just a bit strange for me, bcs it popped out of nowhere, and as it was said in video in one part, that the one thing that most interested me, is that I wanted to have a stronger symptoms, so I could really know that I have depression(since I didn't start to want to have this out of the blue, since I ve been feeling down/low/depressive, for a lot of years, and I struggle with maintaining that and solving the reason why it's that. Plus when you're told, that even your grandparents had depression, you know, that something doesn't feel right for me,especially in some periods of years, like the winter sometimes, and always in fall season(the weather kills everything for me), so the end of year and start of next year, always feels shitty to me. Especially now, that I'm stressed out 24/7, bcs of some shit ppl I have to face everyday and in home. And bcs of mentally breaking bcs of some new, big changes happening again. I wish the things I do rn, would help me get rid of that, but those good habits that I do, only keeps me busy. It doesn't get rid of the feeling that I wanna shut down those ppl who piss me off everyday, bcs they just talk to much, and its about nothing. If those ppl could talk about smth similar or understand when I say/show, that they piss me off rn, it would be different. But they are just too brain dead and ignorant of me, so I chose war xd
Yeah no, before I got diagnosed I was definitely one of those kids that wanted a disorder to be noticed. It's shameful to admit, but knowing how harmful it is now, makes it worse that other people are like that. You don't want these disorders or illnesses. They are not fun or quirky, they are frustrating and sometimes debilitating
I wouldn't blame any kid for wanting attention, it's the parents job to give them as much attention as they need, so if a kid is doing all that for attention, then their parents have failed them.
it technically works because maybe you look like a southeast asian? im malaysian and we look Mexican, i have a Mexican friend and he looks like he's one of us ☠️😭
When I was 16 I used subliminals to make myself prettier and more confident. Even the surface-level subliminal community is a pretty toxic environment for an insecure person. The more I watched, the more videos I got recommended to me claiming to fix aspects of my appearance I didn’t even know were a problem. For example, I’d see videos titled “ski-slope nose” or “remove nose hump” that caused me to be super aware about the shape of my nose, which was something I never really paid attention to before. On top of that, if you aren’t getting results, the community claims it’s YOUR fault, you’re just not believing enough or listening enough. I will say the one positive thing it did for me was encourage me to affirm things like “I am beautiful” or “I am confident” to help me get results, which didn’t really help results come quicker but did change my mindset a little bit.
the surface community is rlly toxic thats why I stayed in the ug community, its so much more opening and they don’t judge you. the surface community forces a positivity mindset on others and even hide the affs in their sub.
100 percent agree, when youre making subliminals you assume that that is a thing that needs to be fixed, its wrong, immoral, unattractive, and as an insecure person these things really did hit me like a truck.
Yeah I don’t even know what that means lol 😅🤷🏻♀️ Which is why this ⬆️ comment struck a chord with me … Because I was born and raised in NYC (US, obvi lol😗) - but I got my double BA in Latin rooted linguistics and abnormal psychology… kinda another reason why I was triggered to reply… I really *hate* how much MORE common (and naively just *accepted* by the majority of people under the age of 35 in the world makes me feel physically sick) it is for people with *zero credentials* to make sweeping generalizations about mental health issues as if they were just presenting facts 🤦🏻♀️ and then you pile the whole monetization factor on to this kinda sh!t stuff starts to feel all… kinda just dirty… Like…I just cannot comprehend how people can feel they have the right to state things with conviction and authority without having the expertise… Pet peeve; it’s a me problem - I guess…
@@LivinLuxuriously the slang word "sus" (short for "suspicious") recently had an increase in usage thanks to Among Us players, who needed a way to accuse each other of being suspicious within a short timeframe. It was then absorbed into the wider Among Us meme culture, with "sussy" becoming a popular mutation. It's a diminutive often used in conjunction with "baka" as a form of ironic cringe speak.
@@kendra_t I’m old guys 🙈😅 can we not stone me to death? I’ve no clue what this “Among Us players” (??) community is or how it ties into the lexicon of this TH-camr( 🤷🏻♀️ ) but hey 👋 I am always happy to learn something new 😁
ngl there was absolutely no word that could properly convey the disgust and shame i felt when i stumbled on one of these subliminal videos for tourettes, as someone who has it. like, what about the possibility of saying slurs in public and the physical fatigue that can come from a sudden fit is appealing to them??
Obviously haven't finished the video, but on the topic of subliminal messages: It was said that K-Mart used subliminal messages in their reel-to-reel tapes to discourage shoplifting. And as someone who has used those tapes to fall asleep to, when wearing headphones, I definitely hear very subtle voices behind the music, and sometimes even morse code. It's wild.
i think this is going to stay my favorite comment here. the details just oddly specific enough to make me laugh a bit & more interesting (to me anyway), the idea of falling asleep to said (as of current) -still mysterious tapes- ETA: if you search "kmart reel-to-reel tapes" there's plenty to be found...not sure if you mean all of them or a specific one though.
@@emelianemone777 Mostly the ones in the late 70s and 80s. I especially like october 1989, because it's just constant martha stewart and CBS tv show ads. A very very weird time, but comforting. And yeah, the person who kept those tapes is a hero. They're all uploaded on the internet archive. Shoutout to december 1991
It's probably not just angsty teens(not saying there isn't any) but ik people with mental illness and trauma do sometimes have a trauma response that makes them want more trauma or mental health concerns, this is because they feel as if their experiences aren't enough and tend to invalidate what they actually been threw. It's a sign they aren't getting the support or care they need bc usaully with these fantasy of it being worse, it's finally people in your life actually caring again. Or even for some people they believe they deserve worse. I never got into this subliminal crap, but as a mentally ill person I do sometimes get those thoughts of wanting worse to happen to me. It's either I deserve it, or maybe people in my life would care about me again. I know it doesn't make much sense why a mentally ill person would think this way, but it's why we are ill. I wouldn't say I have these thoughts when I am having good days, it's not something I actually want. It's intrusive. Anyways, I hope this explains why people might listen to those videos better, and why to me they are concerning to me.
now this ought to be a series. just digging into fucked up lesser-known communities and their secrets. I have to say, though, studies on the placebo effect confirm it can and does indirectly cause concrete, measurable effects - in that sense, listening to a happiness subliminal could really make someone happier through the power of suggestion.
Well if the subliminal messages truly worked, then the effects would take hold even if you didn't know you were listening to them. I don't think anyone is disputing that the placebo effect is definitely a real thing.
i agree that this should be a series! niche communities that have hidden secrets or weird lore would be really cool to see you do, especially since you put so much research into them!@@ScareTheater
The placebo cannot cause actual improvement in an illness or condition (with the exception of pain and anxiety). What it *can* do is cause the person taking it to *believe* and report that they are getting better. It can also cause the person to be motivated to take steps to improve their condition, but with the person believing the placebo caused the improvement. Performing drug trials with placebos is literally how we discovered that these things happen, and it's why it's called the Placebo Effect. There's also a lesser-known phenomenon called the Nocebo Effect where the opposite happens. The person has very negative expectations of the treatment or drug being tested, so muxh so that they will report negative side effects and feeling worse even if they are unknowingly taking a placebo. This is why double-blinding during these kinds of experiments is so important.
Be careful going down this rabbit hole yourselves I watched a "turn into a cow subliminal" video, and woke up ten minutes later trying to milk baby bottle caps I'd glued to my stomach.
I watched a “become more cool subliminal” and woke up three days later on a motorcycle with five cigarettes in my mouth in front of a ramp. Boy, was THAT embarrassing.
ScareTheater touching on r/subliminal is a welcome addition to my day because I've unironically read through some of the posts on there and lost braincells lmao...
I know it’s not exactly the same, but infrasound has been used as an actual warfare and torture method. It causes a host of physical problems like nausea, anxiety, headache and can even lower blood pressure. Again, not quite exactly the same, but not really all that different either.
@@cmpvariety1764theres some interesting results if you type infrasound into youtube but idk if there are any channels that cover the topic exclusively
i fell asleep while meditating to the first and only subliminal i ever listened, around 2018. i woke up in a panic because i started hearing some deep voice speaking to me. i don't remember what was said, but it freaked me the hell out because i could SWEAR it was some message in the audio itself.
I had a similar experience but the voice I heard was more like a female voice urging me to turn the video off because it was trying to harm my mind. That was spooky😮
I used to click on "Listen to this to become more beautiful/lose weight" just so I can read the comments. And truly, they did not disappoint. The somewhat strange thing is that you can't be sure if the comments are posted by trolls or by naive preteens/teens. So for those that don't wanna bother, the comments were basically:"OMG I can't believe this worked!I fell asleep listening to this and woke up 2 pounds lighter!"
someone sent me a link to a subliminal that was like "lose weight and get the body in the picture" and when I clicked on it the photo in question was of me when I was 17... it had so many views and comments like the kind that you said I was sooo confused
Truee and I was scrolling through the comments and most of them are all of that Listening to it one day is considered impossible unless you know Law of Attraction that is (that's what I did to make my classes cancelled when I was 16, it worked because I desperately needed since I forgot to do my business presentation and I wasn't ready back then lol 😅)
I have to say thank you for covering these videos. I recall browsing a cringe subreddit and someone posting about these videos. The ones I found dealt with CSA subliminal messages and how to become a predator. Some really weird and just generally messed up stuff. From what I can remember, from some of them, they played that humming noise and had images of toys and other childish stuff.
oh fuck. i used to be in the subliminal community for years, and i even recognize some videos and creators in this video, having used some myself back then. i found the community when i was like...15-16? (im 19 now) and i was, and still am, deeply depressed. and i thought subliminals would help me fix that. i used to listen to so many subliminal affirmations relating to good mental health...but that never really came, and the realization that the one hope i had at the time to get better wasnt working, it was really soul crushing and made my life worse. i was a crazy kid and listened to subliminals to end it all, too. but i wasnt trying to seek attention...i just genuinely wanted a painless way to get out i won't bash on anybody who uses subliminals, that's none of my business and people have their reasons. but unfortunately for me, subliminals really made my life worse in many more ways than what i just described.
This video makes me recall an interesting memory. A local hypnotist practice near me was recommended to me due to my issues, and when I went, they gave me a CD that had subliminal messages and other weird sounds. It… didn’t really do anything… but I still got charged a hefty price. It’s trippy, and it’s cool to see someone I watch regularly cover it..
@@MayMoment_ Ill have to dig up the cd and censor the intro due it it stating my full name and medical card number, but I'll definitely be able to record the cassettes
I'm so glad you covered this, I used to be kinda into subliminals (not anymore) and not many people have discussed these videos on youtube before. Another great video :)
The way this presentation spirals downward in stages really gives a strong sense of just how bizarre and messed up the entire subliminal thing is from top to bottom. Just when you thought it was bad enough, it gets worse. Wow.
Hi, I'm someone in the above ground sub community, and you're right. TH-cam needs to address the problematic ones more, but instead they've targeted relatively harmless content creators, including sub makers. And yet, these horrifying ones are STILL up. It's absolutely sickening. It makes me feel embarrassed on behalf of the community, but I hope everyone here knows WE ARE NOT ALL LIKE THIS. Mostly, our beliefs are, in fact, based on the teachings of metaphysical/esoteric/new thought teachers like the Ethiopian Jewish Rabbi, Abdullah, his students Neville Goddard (my personal favorite!) and Dr. Joseph Murphy, and later, Esther Hicks and many others. It's okay if others don't agree, most of us who are normal, rational human beings understand why people who aren't religious or spiritual don't agree with us. But we SERIOUSLY need to address the UGs that have "benefits" like "get a yandere stalker!!" "Look younger!" "Become severely mentally ill!!1!" Esp bc like you said, there are minors in the community. And even for those who don't believe in subs, we all at least need to make sure these kids know that this shit isn't okay. That it shouldn't be condoned, promoted, or tolerated. Also, I was already neurodivergent to begin with so I found the "become autistic!!" Subs particularly distressing, mocking and disgusting.
I’m not in the sub community but i feel sickened aswell and i find it sad that an Otherwise Decent community is ruined because of those horrible people. It seems that Every time people find something that they can talk about and Have fun with someone else comes in and uses it for bad purposes
@FaxQe Its loli. Strictly speaking it just means a prepubescent anime girl or something along those lines, but ive never seen it used in a non-sexual context.
underground subliminals helped me partially... i use them everytime I'm hurt by someone to feel like a child again and forget about the fact that i was hurt. It doesn't do anything bad to others at all especially the age regression subs (for me as I use it in a proper way) since it's what I mostly listen to in times of pain. I'd listen to that while watching my fave cartoons as a child and just heal quickly from what harmed my feelings. the process is really healing and I've done it more than 4 times this year. when im in that feeling of a baby, i feel like i don't care and i really focus on what things that makes me happy only.
I used to watch subliminals and forgot about it, sometimes I get a notification from my old comments asking me if they worked or whatever, I feel so bad for a lot of these people
13:07 I just want to remind u that MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE ARE NOT THINKING STRAIGHT. When i struggled the most with my eating disorder (I was 11-12 yrs old) I used subliminals and I thought that if i ate anything MY PARENTS WOULD PHYSICALLY KILL ME. My parents have never even hit me Mental illness takes the ability to think rationally completely away. It is not an attention seeking thing! The people who engage with these subliminals have such severe issues they probably can't think logically about how to fix them. This is not a hate comment I just found your analysis to be uninformed & I wanted to share my own experiences.
Eric, thank you so much for creating this video and spreading awareness about audio subliminals. Often times they foster further insecurity and create unrealistic expectations about what is possible.
When i was young, around 12 years old i was an active listener of subliminals, specifically the ones that claim they will change the listener's appearance. None of them worked (obviously) and i was left with permanent hearing loss in my left ear due to listening to subliminals with headphones all day and night long, and understandably disappointed and self conscious, I feel terrible for the people and kids who believe these things actually work.
Sorry to hear that man. I'm more conscious about tinnitus now after listening to music a lot for 8 years now. It's not something you'd think about as a young person but it does affect you eventually. Take breaks from headphones folks.
I LOVE subliminal and binural beats buts I use them to keep my mind calm when working or writing or if I’m sick I’ll fall asleep to them. I know damn well it’s not some special cure, it’s really sad what it can do
I hated what you explained at the end I stand a nice 4'10", and despite being 19 I've been mistaken for a 10-13 year old by many. I've had friends joke with me about how im bait and my voice doesn't make it better. I genuinely get anxious about people finding me attractive just because i look like a child.
If you don't already, don't be afraid to call them creeps. If you calling them that hurts them, then you know they aren't safe to be around, cause you've hit a cord. Stay safe.
I can relate to you. I’m also 19, except I’m 5’2 and have young and childlike features in general which makes me feel very insecure. my hands, feet, arms, and legs are all tiny and I understand people finding this cute, but my fear is that they’ll find it cute for all the wrong reasons. people already tend to infantilize me for my appearance
I’m so glad someone is bringing up this topic!! some of them are harmless ( for the most part at least, some are to go to therapy, to a psych ward or a hospital, which can be very helpful if someone needs help ). but most of them aren’t, they’re mostly to get sicknesses or to make awful things happen to people.
Around 4 years ago my ex broke up with me and it spiraled me into a big hole of depression. When I was in that situation I stumbled upon the concept of Twin Flames and subliminals. So I have been there. While it seemed like something extremly helpful and healing at the time it was nothing more than me spiraling into delulu and worst of all staying mentally stuck in the break up and wanting him back. It took me 2 years to get out of this and finally get myself mentally healthy again. I am glad I made it out, but as far as I can tell (in regards to the Twin Flame topic) a lot of people have been stuck in there for years. Some are women in their 40s still heartbroken over some crush they had decades ago. To make things worse the content creators (Readings, subliminals, etc) of course also create workshops and what not to make money of the pain these people are feeling while keeping them stuck in their delusion.
*-sweats in new subliminal channel-* Don't mind me just passing through. All seriousness, thank you for touching on the harmful dark side of the community.
These subliminal messages are more so 2 way… meaning the one “falling” for it is more likely to be playing along than actually doing anything. And you just covered the fact it’s pointless. Thanks bro. I started writing this a bit early.
As someone with autism, the line “you can’t get autism from watching a youtube video, unless its mine” really made laugh! Keep up the Great Work, Eric!
Scare theater, I am a long time fan and I’ve watched you probably since 2017 I think I remember you making a video like this one where you talked about subliminal messages and you said “You can’t get autism by watching a video, unless it’s mine” I swear it
Congratulations on 1 million you were the first TH-camr I watched while I stayed up for my first all nighter bc u mad me crap my pants and this was more then 6 years ago very happy for you
My first experience with Subliminal messaging was back in the 90's with a movie called The Principal starring Jim Belushi in that movie when he is fighting on the breezeway you can hear the word Violence barely audible like a whisper nobody else heard it so after rewinding the video and playing it back did everybody else hear it but it took up to 4 times before my mom finally heard it and that's whem she told me about Subliminal Messaging
the hello kitty kawaii aesthetic subluminals are so deranged and funny to me??? i'm hella mentally ill and cannot see myself seriously using hello kitty kawaii to background my issues
coming from someone who uses/makes subliminals it’s mainly used as a manifestation tool, boosting your subconscious into manifesting certain things I understand that a lot of people in the community have tons of insecurities, which sucks
The song Seen And Not Seen by Talking Heads reminds me a lot of the whole using subliminal messages to change physical appearance. Could be the theme song to that subreddit.
@Lowshyne I mean it's not even a subliminal message the lyrics are: He would see faces in movies, on TV In magazines and in books He thought that some of these faces might be right for him And that through the years By keeping an ideal facial structure fixed in his mind Or somewhere in the back of his mind That he might, by force of will Cause his face to approach those of his ideal
I used to listen to UG subliminals for anoreixa religiously, and at that time I didn't have one, but then a few months later I actually developed an eating disorder like anorexia and bulimia from an ex-boyfriend... lol! I wouldn't wish an eating disorder on anyone
I'll never forget when I was a kid, I tried to watch one of these videos to get sharingan lol, but midway I gave up cuz I was scared of this harming my eyes lol
As someone with autism, my biggest pet peeve is people who want mental conditions. Just because you don't feel unique enough, it does not validate you wanting something that would make your life worse. It won't make people magically like and sympathise with you. I know that there's a lot of sad shit behind these people's desires but I just can't stand people treating mine and others daily struggles like an accessory, it really gets under my skin.
Thank you so much for posting on niche subjects like this. Love your passion and dedication to your craft I can only hope your day got better after taking a breather from the last subject. Sending love from PA.
shout out to scare theater for making the best autism subliminals on the site 😊 on a more serious note thank you for covering this topic, going deeper than the behavioral change ones, it gets dark real fast and its concerning
There's a potential explanation for the more...depraved ones that's arguably more upsetting than what you proposed. There is a nonzero chance that they're SA or incest survivors that haven't processed their trauma correctly and dont really know how to express themselves in a healthy way. It overlaps with degradation kinks as well which would explain the degrading statements in the video descriptions. These same people tend to be into the age play stuff and have r4p3 kinks too. I've known people like this. It's honestly just kinda sad.
I swear, for people with this kind of baggage, the Internet is the worst place. The possibilities of their trauma being exploited or amplified are terrifying.
The eye color one has me cracking tf up. It’s like people have lost even the most basic of common sense. Colors change shades when exposed to different types of light. I can literally remember the exact day I learned that in 1st grade. I have a cousin with brown eyes whose eyes look almost green when they’re in sunlight. I have darker blue eyes that look turquoise when exposed to the right lighting. This whole thing is genuinely sad and really shows just how much damage the internet has done to society.
I feel like every video I've seen on this topic just has channels bashing on the mentally ill when they aren't bothering anybody?? I mean.. what the fuck is going on??
@obitsudoll__ (trying to be nice here) The people who make those are most likely people who already have bpd. People have different motivations for using those, whether to self harm through the use of it, worsen the affects to get diagnosed or whatever else.. If people are using these for fetishistic purposes OF COURSE it’s gross but it’s usually not the case
@obitsudoll__ They most likely do, just along with it because there aren’t many “get a diagnosis” subliminals. They worsen it because people may see the symptoms as “just human things” (when they aren’t) and so by worsening it, it’s easier to get a diagnosis.
A lot of the subliminal videos he talks about in this video are in themselves taking advantage of the mentally "ill" by manipulating their state of mind. People who follow subliminal videos aren't usually of a state of mind like that, the ones who follow some of the more absurd ones are just delusional like most other people in society. If you follow that philosophical concept then its not hard to see why people consume some of that kind of content, they really arent that different from the people who believe in the 5g covid stuff, flat earth, young earth, etc.
@@thenextgeneration9030 edit: that was literally one small portion of the video (like 2 minutes fr) and you decide to focus on that for my argument? really says a lot for my argument in favor of it tbh. like you don't have a good argument so you decide to twist words (that weren't even said btw) to make your argument.. which also doesn't exist. idk man you're wasting time here rn
when i had anorexia in high school i would watch a ton of ridiculous underweight and anorexia subliminals. i was basically delusional, i guess watching them "helped" me focus more and more mental energy on anorexic behaviors, it was also a way for me to feel like i wasnt alone in how i felt... its really bizarre how these negative impact subliminals have really cutesy "kawaii" aesthetics

wow you were NOT kidding with that "this will ruin your day" disclaimer, i had seen some of the goofier subliminal stuff and done a really deep dive into it but i had never stumbled across underground subliminals. i pray for your sanity
The first time I stumbled on a subliminal video it was just in an auto-generated music playlist and I was so confused reading the description...but the comments were worse. People talking about wanting to not just be thin but skeletal thin and wanting to have miscarriages like it's a quirky thing to have... Believing they can lose 10 kilos a night in their sleep... You don't need to watch a subliminal to give you mental health problems because you already have something wrong with you if you're watching and believing this in the first place..
Honestly I remember this part of the internet was there and it was something. I know they sometimes like to also go after videos going after subliminals like these. Especially the underground communities by using the excuse of “coping mechanisms”. Looking back at it now it’s horrible how promoted this is in that community it’s insane to me. I remember listening to these whilst being in the worst part of my mental health about my physical appearance. It being promoted to young children’s and teenagers I think is just sick. I don’t think all of them are like this but these issues just sometimes can’t be ignored like the underground and the amount of drama there was.
When I was a few years younger and in a bad place I used to listen to the "weight loss" underground subliminals- there is a HUGE community of them aimed at things like getting kidnapped or being SAd There seems to be a direct correlation with the popularity of this content and the way kids grow up now- where their parents are either too busy or don't care enough and they put a device in front of them just to keep them out of their hair These kids end up in a place where they don't get enough attention at home, spend too much time online, and are often introduced to p*rnography at a very young age because of time spent online All of that combined makes kids actively seek out content like this and it's really quite tragic that it's so readily available- and if not now, it will become a breeding ground for predators
Eric, I've watched you over the years go from just pure fascinating content to true sociological scholarship, still always fascinating of course!! Your work is so amazing, so professional, and the thoughts you share are always so, so insightful. You're a treasure ❤
13:1213:47 you did NOT just use the teens faking depression argument. That's even more damaging to believe. I was told the exact same thing and convinced myself that it was fake depression, but turns out I had legit issues and was being abused without knowing it! So I highly doubt that it's just kids being "edgy" not every kid has good parents
@@armorpro573kids faking disorders aren’t using subliminals to try and help themselves. That said, they should try astro projection, it’s the kind of reality changing thing that IS real, literally exploring outside of your body, being who you want and doing what you want temporarily. Subliminals kind of work, but they’re not working literally, like the creator of this video says, they’re placebos, you’re manifesting it in your mind.
Subliminal messages are the audio version of placebos. It might (emphasize on "might") help with some things if you believe, though there's no scientific proof it does. For most cases, it's as useful as using duct tape and gum to build a house
Your notion of a subliminal and the purpose of it is off base. No one ever said they would have groundbreaking mental or physical effects... the point is to prime populations. Ever wonder why you see so much gay and tranny stuff on your porn sites despite being normal and not watching that stuff?
I did recently try listening to a subliminal recording that was supposed to make you attract money...until I saw that the same guy had posted multiple videos about how we are living in a simulation. I couldn't take him seriously after that. And yes, I do realize that trying to attract money via subliminal messages is silly but when you're desperate, you're far more likely to do something silly. This is why dating apps are so popular.
Funny thing about subliminal messaging... the original experiment that popularized the concept was revealed to be fraudulent... having never actually been performed. Skeptoid has a good run-down of that.
This is why I think we should start criticizing beliefs. These aren’t “harmless” they’re spreading and especially in the age of misinformation unscientific bs like this is spreading more than actual education.

as someone who is in that "not disabled enough" limbo i get what theyre going through. i often get intrusive thoughts about how i wish i was sicker or more disabled so i could get the treatment i need. i currently cannot get support or mobility aids bc the government deem me "too healthy" and if my health was this bad while i was younger i definately wouldve been a user of the underground subliminals.
So, it takes less of a leap in logic to believe some random subliminal can make your situation worse than it does to believe it can cure you.
i love your deadpan delivery of jokes like they didnt happen its like comedic gaslighting

How does it feel being able to sleep to The Caretaker?

I'm glad you were able to bring this topic more awareness to so many people, it deserves to be talked about. Thank you Mr. Theater
I'm so glad you covered this, I used to be kinda into subliminals (not anymore) and not many people have discussed these videos on youtube before. Another great video :)
You're the only person I've seen talk about this sick stuff
The way this presentation spirals downward in stages really gives a strong sense of just how bizarre and messed up the entire subliminal thing is from top to bottom. Just when you thought it was bad enough, it gets worse. Wow.
"click off if you don't want your day ruined" bold of you to assume i'm not already fully aware of all of this
Hi, I'm someone in the above ground sub community, and you're right.
@@GorillaWithACellphone That's with anything though, unfortunately.

underground subliminals helped me partially... i use them everytime I'm hurt by someone to feel like a child again and forget about the fact that i was hurt.
My parents have never even hit me
Mental illness takes the ability to think rationally completely away. It is not an attention seeking thing! The people who engage with these subliminals have such severe issues they probably can't think logically about how to fix them. This is not a hate comment I just found your analysis to be uninformed & I wanted to share my own experiences.
i use them mostly to help me focus and sleep, its an ingrained habit in my life so I feel weird without them now lol
and not underground subliminals, those are fucked up lol
Did you ever over listen ? Did you feel nausea, anxiety, dizziness or other unwanted side effects ?

Same, I got a damaged ear. And I also had a serious illness.

I LOVE subliminal and binural beats buts I use them to keep my mind calm when working or writing or if I’m sick I’ll fall asleep to them. I know damn well it’s not some special cure, it’s really sad what it can do
Referring to the subliminal community as the sub-community made me double take.
Plot twist: It's a community of substitute teachers.
I hated what you explained at the end
I stand a nice 4'10", and despite being 19 I've been mistaken for a 10-13 year old by many.
Damn I never clicked the video so quick in my life
Literally as soon as I saw the notification I clicked lol

The song Seen And Not Seen by Talking Heads reminds me a lot of the whole using subliminal messages to change physical appearance. Could be the theme song to that subreddit.
@Lowshyne I mean it's not even a subliminal message the lyrics are:
He would see faces in movies, on TV
In magazines and in books
He thought that some of these faces might be right for him
And that through the years
By keeping an ideal facial structure fixed in his mind
Or somewhere in the back of his mind
That he might, by force of will
Cause his face to approach those of his ideal
Sending love from PA.

on a more serious note thank you for covering this topic, going deeper than the behavioral change ones, it gets dark real fast and its concerning
Wow a TH-cam that actually uses scientific sources. Bless your heart
13:41 yo, is that the postal dude!?
It's beyond stupid and bizzare.
This whole thing is genuinely sad and really shows just how much damage the internet has done to society.
let me hop on your beat
I feel like every video I've seen on this topic just has channels bashing on the mentally ill when they aren't bothering anybody?? I mean.. what the fuck is going on??
"what the heck??? why are these channels bashing pedo channels?? what the fuck>>>??"

When I was a few years younger and in a bad place I used to listen to the "weight loss" underground subliminals- there is a HUGE community of them aimed at things like getting kidnapped or being SAd
There seems to be a direct correlation with the popularity of this content and the way kids grow up now- where their parents are either too busy or don't care enough and they put a device in front of them just to keep them out of their hair
These kids end up in a place where they don't get enough attention at home, spend too much time online, and are often introduced to p*rnography at a very young age because of time spent online
All of that combined makes kids actively seek out content like this and it's really quite tragic that it's so readily available- and if not now, it will become a breeding ground for predators
good old scaretheater to keep me company during the winter… been a big fan for a few years now! keep it up boss 🙏

I was told the exact same thing and convinced myself that it was fake depression, but turns out I had legit issues and was being abused without knowing it!
So I highly doubt that it's just kids being "edgy" not every kid has good parents
Well given that there are so many Tiktoks of people “faking” disorders, it’s not that unusual
@@armorpro573kids faking disorders aren’t using subliminals to try and help themselves.
