    as someone who is in that "not disabled enough" limbo i get what theyre going through. i often get intrusive thoughts about how i wish i was sicker or more disabled so i could get the treatment i need. i currently cannot get support or mobility aids bc the government deem me "too healthy" and if my health was this bad while i was younger i definately wouldve been a user of the underground subliminals.

    • @ScareTheater
      @ScareTheater  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      It still doesn't make sense to me, because even if we're in some fantasy world where we can just wish for anything to happen, wouldn't it make more sense to just wish for the disability to be cured completely?

    • @alien_kae
      @alien_kae 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +55

      @@ScareTheater These sorts of thoughts are emotional not logical. Someone who is trying to use subliminal messages to make their situation worse probably is well past the point of being able to believe it could ever just get better. They've lost all hope of that happening and can't allow themselves to believe in it anymore. But maybe if it got worse, someone would take them seriously and they could at least get help for it...and then maybe it would get better, in an indirect way. It doesn't make any logical sense, but it's a weird way for the mind to try to give itself hope in a hopeless situation.
      And honestly I don't think many people using subliminals are thinking very logically in the first place, so I would expect a lot of emotional reasoning in that community that doesn't make much sense if you think about it too much.

      @@ScareTheater most humans are irrational, emotional creatures. they behave with their feelings and instincts in mind usually, not caring much for what is deemed the truth by the world and it’s inhabitants. humans are at the end of the day animals after all.

    • @MokohiChan
      @MokohiChan 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @ScareTheater Similar situation to the person you responded to. I am disabled, but not "enough" to get supports I need. I never knew about or got into these subliminals, but I would liken it to intrusive thoughts spurned from depression. You know how depression can make you feel everyone would be better off without you? I imagine it's like that. I also don't think users fully believe it's gonna work. It's a desperate cry for help/attention in a way. I think this is why you found some people comparing it to a form of self harm.
      Also, on the flip side, it's easier to believe in a condition getting worse than getting cured. We consider it a miracle or scientific breakthrough when an incurable disability or disease just suddenly goes away, but when it gets worse? Nobody bats an eye. That's normal, expected, and just unfortunate. So, it takes less of a leap in logic to believe some random subliminal can make your situation worse than it does to believe it can cure you.

    Good video, but I want to clarify something said around 13:18. I have personal experience feeling this way because of my own traumas, and I believe the kids doing this are using it as a cry for help to actually be taken seriously for their issues and trauma, because it may have been downplayed or not seen as "bad" as more extreme versions of their issues. The kids could even have the desire to have more pain inflicted on them to make it "worse", which is a very common symptom of someone who has been seriously traumatized to be listened to and given the help they need, even if to a non traumatized person it may seem counterintuitive. It may be kids wanting attention, but it's still attention to take seriously because so many are clearly suffering.

      I had this with my eating disorder! I wanted to be taken seriously and saw other people who were in pain giving themselves EDs, so I did too. There’s a misconception that if you do something for attention you’re cringe and bad and are misrepresenting the mentally ill, but honestly most of us do crap for attention and that doesn’t make us any less ill

    • @nameofthename
      @nameofthename 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      @emilydavis162 if anything it makes you more ill. i wish people would use critical thinking when it comes to things like this. if someone is hurting themselves for attention, then there is something seriously wrong and they need someone to pay attention so that they can get the help they so desperately need. no ok person would cause themselves harm just to get attention.
      but no, instead most people just dismiss them as simply edgy attention seekers. the obvious cries for help go unheard by many, and things continue to get worse.

    I used underground subliminals and joined a couple subliminal messaging communities when I was in high school (in college now and I'm normal now lol). I used subliminals for a couple years because I was super insecure and wanted an easy way to help me lose weight, increase my intelligence, gain confidence, have men pay more attention to me, etc. I listened to custom playlists, boosters, even tried to make my own and paid for other people to make them for me. It eventually led me to underground subliminals, ones that promised 10+ lb weight loss in a day, having your teacher fall in love with you (as a minor!), even race changing and ones that could supposedly have a person of your choice dëad like death note lol. Now the subliminals themselves weren't harmful but the communities that formed around them were because all they did was enable each other's delusions and to take more extreme measures to achieve them. A lot of the people I knew in these communities were teen girls like myself who were already suffering with mental illness and they were surrounded with other mentally ill girls. A couple of the girls I knew in the community were in relationships with pëdophiles and used subliminals to make those men want them more and do sëxüal acts with them (as if lol). Most people who used these subliminials were probably just insecure kids like me, who wanted to escape from what made them insecure but dont know how. Thank you for the video Eric.

      oh my, i didnt even knew that this existed for so long :o as i once stumbled upon it last year, i think, or bit older than one year ago, and ofc i stmbled upon some ug subliminals about mental ilnesses xd but thankfully, i wasnt immersed in it too much, as i didnt interact there too much and wasnt given any attention(as usual xd) so that and smth else, i forgot, made me forgot about the subliminals slowly. and im glad, so when i saw that title and then the video, i was shocked to see that i know smth about it finally . and im glad i didnt encounter any most worst subliminals, just some thing with mental ilnesses but that clearly didnt change anything so it made everything pointless to continue that xd

    • @safiyaalove
      @safiyaalove 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      @@joyboyyy I'm glad you got out of that community & mindset as soon as you could friend. I can say from my own experience that using subliminals definitely worsened my mental health and only when I stopped using them did I begin to focus on finding real ways to get what I wanted. I was always insecure about my weight so I would listen to subliminals that promised 10 lb weight loss over night and I even found one subliminal that was used for developing anörexia to look skinnier (which obviously wouldn't work, but could lead someone down that mindset to achieve that). I didn't start losing weight until I started doing the steps that took more effort than listening to some videos, like being mindful of the things I ate and put in my body & exercising more often. A lot of the problems that people use subliminals as the solution for can actually be solved through other means that require more work, and the sooner people realize that the sooner they can actually begin working on themselves.

      @@safiyaalove that concept was just a bit strange for me, bcs it popped out of nowhere, and as it was said in video in one part, that the one thing that most interested me, is that I wanted to have a stronger symptoms, so I could really know that I have depression(since I didn't start to want to have this out of the blue, since I ve been feeling down/low/depressive, for a lot of years, and I struggle with maintaining that and solving the reason why it's that. Plus when you're told, that even your grandparents had depression, you know, that something doesn't feel right for me,especially in some periods of years, like the winter sometimes, and always in fall season(the weather kills everything for me), so the end of year and start of next year, always feels shitty to me. Especially now, that I'm stressed out 24/7, bcs of some shit ppl I have to face everyday and in home. And bcs of mentally breaking bcs of some new, big changes happening again. I wish the things I do rn, would help me get rid of that, but those good habits that I do, only keeps me busy. It doesn't get rid of the feeling that I wanna shut down those ppl who piss me off everyday, bcs they just talk to much, and its about nothing. If those ppl could talk about smth similar or understand when I say/show, that they piss me off rn, it would be different. But they are just too brain dead and ignorant of me, so I chose war xd

    When I was 16 I used subliminals to make myself prettier and more confident. Even the surface-level subliminal community is a pretty toxic environment for an insecure person. The more I watched, the more videos I got recommended to me claiming to fix aspects of my appearance I didn’t even know were a problem. For example, I’d see videos titled “ski-slope nose” or “remove nose hump” that caused me to be super aware about the shape of my nose, which was something I never really paid attention to before. On top of that, if you aren’t getting results, the community claims it’s YOUR fault, you’re just not believing enough or listening enough. I will say the one positive thing it did for me was encourage me to affirm things like “I am beautiful” or “I am confident” to help me get results, which didn’t really help results come quicker but did change my mindset a little bit.

    It's probably not just angsty teens(not saying there isn't any) but ik people with mental illness and trauma do sometimes have a trauma response that makes them want more trauma or mental health concerns, this is because they feel as if their experiences aren't enough and tend to invalidate what they actually been threw. It's a sign they aren't getting the support or care they need bc usaully with these fantasy of it being worse, it's finally people in your life actually caring again. Or even for some people they believe they deserve worse.
    I never got into this subliminal crap, but as a mentally ill person I do sometimes get those thoughts of wanting worse to happen to me. It's either I deserve it, or maybe people in my life would care about me again.
    I know it doesn't make much sense why a mentally ill person would think this way, but it's why we are ill. I wouldn't say I have these thoughts when I am having good days, it's not something I actually want. It's intrusive. Anyways, I hope this explains why people might listen to those videos better, and why to me they are concerning to me.

      The placebo cannot cause actual improvement in an illness or condition (with the exception of pain and anxiety). What it *can* do is cause the person taking it to *believe* and report that they are getting better. It can also cause the person to be motivated to take steps to improve their condition, but with the person believing the placebo caused the improvement. Performing drug trials with placebos is literally how we discovered that these things happen, and it's why it's called the Placebo Effect.
      There's also a lesser-known phenomenon called the Nocebo Effect where the opposite happens. The person has very negative expectations of the treatment or drug being tested, so muxh so that they will report negative side effects and feeling worse even if they are unknowingly taking a placebo. This is why double-blinding during these kinds of experiments is so important.

TH-cam needs to address the problematic ones more, but instead they've targeted relatively harmless content creators, including sub makers. And yet, these horrifying ones are STILL up. It's absolutely sickening. It makes me feel embarrassed on behalf of the community, but I hope everyone here knows WE ARE NOT ALL LIKE THIS. Mostly, our beliefs are, in fact, based on the teachings of metaphysical/esoteric/new thought teachers like the Ethiopian Jewish Rabbi, Abdullah, his students Neville Goddard (my personal favorite!) and Dr. Joseph Murphy, and later, Esther Hicks and many others. It's okay if others don't agree, most of us who are normal, rational human beings understand why people who aren't religious or spiritual don't agree with us. But we SERIOUSLY need to address the UGs that have "benefits" like "get a yandere stalker!!" "Look younger!" "Become severely mentally ill!!1!" Esp bc like you said, there are minors in the community. And even for those who don't believe in subs, we all at least need to make sure these kids know that this shit isn't okay. That it shouldn't be condoned, promoted, or tolerated. Also, I was already neurodivergent to begin with so I found the "become autistic!!" Subs particularly distressing, mocking and disgusting.

So I have been there. While it seemed like something extremly helpful and healing at the time it was nothing more than me spiraling into delulu and worst of all staying mentally stuck in the break up and wanting him back.
    It took me 2 years to get out of this and finally get myself mentally healthy again. I am glad I made it out, but as far as I can tell (in regards to the Twin Flame topic) a lot of people have been stuck in there for years. Some are women in their 40s still heartbroken over some crush they had decades ago. To make things worse the content creators (Readings, subliminals, etc) of course also create workshops and what not to make money of the pain these people are feeling while keeping them stuck in their delusion.

      @Lowshyne I mean it's not even a subliminal message the lyrics are:
      He would see faces in movies, on TV
      In magazines and in books
      He thought that some of these faces might be right for him
      And that through the years
      By keeping an ideal facial structure fixed in his mind
      Or somewhere in the back of his mind
      That he might, by force of will
      Cause his face to approach those of his ideal

    As someone with autism, my biggest pet peeve is people who want mental conditions. Just because you don't feel unique enough, it does not validate you wanting something that would make your life worse. It won't make people magically like and sympathise with you. I know that there's a lot of sad shit behind these people's desires but I just can't stand people treating mine and others daily struggles like an accessory, it really gets under my skin.

    There's a potential explanation for the more...depraved ones that's arguably more upsetting than what you proposed.
    There is a nonzero chance that they're SA or incest survivors that haven't processed their trauma correctly and dont really know how to express themselves in a healthy way. It overlaps with degradation kinks as well which would explain the degrading statements in the video descriptions. These same people tend to be into the age play stuff and have r4p3 kinks too. I've known people like this. It's honestly just kinda sad.

I can literally remember the exact day I learned that in 1st grade. I have a cousin with brown eyes whose eyes look almost green when they’re in sunlight. I have darker blue eyes that look turquoise when exposed to the right lighting. This whole thing is genuinely sad and really shows just how much damage the internet has done to society.

    • @doyoueverwannaKABOOM

      @obitsudoll__ They most likely do, just along with it because there aren’t many “get a diagnosis” subliminals. They worsen it because people may see the symptoms as “just human things” (when they aren’t) and so by worsening it, it’s easier to get a diagnosis.

      A lot of the subliminal videos he talks about in this video are in themselves taking advantage of the mentally "ill" by manipulating their state of mind. People who follow subliminal videos aren't usually of a state of mind like that, the ones who follow some of the more absurd ones are just delusional like most other people in society. If you follow that philosophical concept then its not hard to see why people consume some of that kind of content, they really arent that different from the people who believe in the 5g covid stuff, flat earth, young earth, etc.

People talking about wanting to not just be thin but skeletal thin and wanting to have miscarriages like it's a quirky thing to have... Believing they can lose 10 kilos a night in their sleep... You don't need to watch a subliminal to give you mental health problems because you already have something wrong with you if you're watching and believing this in the first place..

    Honestly I remember this part of the internet was there and it was something. I know they sometimes like to also go after videos going after subliminals like these. Especially the underground communities by using the excuse of “coping mechanisms”. Looking back at it now it’s horrible how promoted this is in that community it’s insane to me. I remember listening to these whilst being in the worst part of my mental health about my physical appearance. It being promoted to young children’s and teenagers I think is just sick. I don’t think all of them are like this but these issues just sometimes can’t be ignored like the underground and the amount of drama there was.

  • @mountaingutz
    @mountaingutz 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    When I was a few years younger and in a bad place I used to listen to the "weight loss" underground subliminals- there is a HUGE community of them aimed at things like getting kidnapped or being SAd
    There seems to be a direct correlation with the popularity of this content and the way kids grow up now- where their parents are either too busy or don't care enough and they put a device in front of them just to keep them out of their hair
    These kids end up in a place where they don't get enough attention at home, spend too much time online, and are often introduced to p*rnography at a very young age because of time spent online
    All of that combined makes kids actively seek out content like this and it's really quite tragic that it's so readily available- and if not now, it will become a breeding ground for predators
