A reporter from the Sunday Telegraph asked if the use of the chainsaw was frowned on, some people have a romantic vision of what is involved in hedgelaying. This is my view.
Much of the footage was taken by someone else while I was competing. The behaviour is as it is. That behaviour is changing as younger workers enter the craft. They tend to to have been trained, and to work in environments where they are monitored. Older workers are wholly untrained, and work away from observation. I feel that it is important to show real behaviour in order to discuss actual safety issues.
