    Reminds me of the breast cancer awareness ribbon 🎗. I should try a heart since valentines is coming up. Thanks for the inspiration ❤️🌈

      I thought the same exact thing! I should have made it pink instead of purple.

    Interesting tie..I can see a slightly different tie resulting in a “heart in a keyhole” effect..thanks for the inspiration Angie, love your vids!

    I think that’s where I’ve been going wrong. I’ve been folding my heart from the opposite end and never get a nice curve. I’m going to try it your way next time.
    ETA: That strawberry is so vibrant! I never thought about washing the shirt still tied. The last shirt I did, I ended up untying it to wash it. I wasn’t too thrilled trying to figure out where I tied. Only one was pretty structured and the rest I had done pretty randomly lol. So good times, trying to recreate that! 😅 Sorry, I initially commented as I was watching but I wanted to add more once I finished the video. This shirt is gorgeous. 💜

      Thank you so much! I really like the strawberry, but someone commented that Custom Colours doesn't have it listed on the website anymore. Hopefully it is just out of stock - I love that color.
      I untie some of my designs before washing them if I'm going to tie them in a different design to dye them. Otherwise, most of the time they go through the washing machine just fine without being untied. Sometimes the sinew will start to unravel or fray, but for the most part it usually works. Yikes! - It would be really tough to retie them exactly the same way - I'm sure that took you awhile.

    Cool! Where can I buy sinew? (I'm in Australia though)

      I purchase mine from Amazon. Here is a link to the kind that I buy: amzn.to/2EF28Lu
      Usually you can find sinew at either a craft store, jewelry making store, or a leatherwork store.

    How long did you leave it in the powder/water mix

    • @FunEndeavors
      @FunEndeavors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I left it in the Out White Brite Laundry Whitener for only about 5 minutes total.

      @@FunEndeavors oh wow! I tried this and it did not get as white. Does the water need to be boiling hot?

    • @FunEndeavors
      @FunEndeavors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrose12706 Yes, I took the boiling hot water off of the stove and immediately poured it over the top of the Out White Brite that was on the shirt. I also only added enough water to cover the shirt. I didn't want to dilute the Out too much.

    hi im wilson from philippines i have been following your channel since 2020 and i want to learn more about tie dyeing
    any tips on how long is the minimum time for soaking shirts on soda ash?
    what is the difference between soaked for an hour and soaked for 24 hours or more, thanks in advance :)

    • @FunEndeavors
      @FunEndeavors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wilson! I soak my shirts in soda ash for at least 20 to 30 minutes to make sure they are well saturated with soda ash solution. It won't hurt them to soak longer as long as there isn't any metal on the shirt - the soda ash is a corrosive and can damage metal if it is left soaking for too long. Then I wring them out until they are damp. The soda ash solution will raise the pH and allow the Procion Fiber Reactive Dye that I use to bond properly with the shirt.
      Then I tie them in whatever design I have chosen while the shirt is still damp. After I tie the shirt, I usually let them dry out before applying the dye. Some prefer to dye when the shirt is damp, but I have found that it is easier for me to get really good color saturation without any white left on the shirt when I dye them dry. It is particularly helpful to dye dry when the fold is a thick one like a mandala or a geode to avoid unintentional white areas in the middle of the design.
      After the dye is applied, I place the shirt inside of a plastic container that has a metal rack in the bottom to allow the dye to drain away from the shirt. I place the lid on the container and allow the shirt to process for at least 24 hours. The room that I put the container in must be above 70 degrees Fahrenheit for the dye to bond properly with the shirt. Leaving the shirt longer than 24 hours is fine too. If the space where your shirt is processing is warm enough - 24 hours will yield vibrant colors on the shirt. If the space is cooler than 70 degrees Fahrenheit - the shirt should be allowed to process longer before it is rinsed and washed.

    When I tried Out White Brite, it got too far into my shirt and removed all the color. I gotta keep experimenting.

    • @FunEndeavors
      @FunEndeavors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see where that would be really easy to do. I'm going to keep experimenting with the Out White Brite too - I was really pleasantly surprised with how well it worked.
