Managing automatic warehouse systems from inside the SAP EWM

As worldwide first supplier, Dematic has implemented a logistics system with SAP EWM/MFS for the Swiss SFS unimarket AG company's new central warehouse. For the first time, complicated automated warehouse systems and processes are now directly controlled from within the SAP EWM/MFS. Central solution components here are the Dematic SubDriver and the Dematic Multishuttle automated compact warehouse system. The integrated SAP solution with the highly-dynamic container warehouse generates a 30 percent increase in productivity for SFS.
An innovation leap for the SAP world in terms of warehouse logistics: As a general contractor for the intralogistics in the new central warehouse for the Swiss SFS unimarket AG company, a leading Swiss provider of fastening systems, tools and fittings, Dematic has implemented a system concept at the site in Rebstein, which for the very first time, enables the programmable logic controls (PLC) of the automated warehouse systems to be controlled in the SAP EWM itself. This in turn means that the overall warehouse typology is mapped in only one IT system, the SAP "Extended Warehouse Management" (SAP EWM) system, as tailored by Dematic to meet specific customer demands.
The interface concept as realized by Dematic now enables SFS to provide a continuous SAP-based IT infrastructure, which covers everything from the Group's higher-level Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system up to the warehouse automation's control level (PLC).
The world's first implementation of such a solution, which on the software side only uses SAP EWM and the material flow control system (SAP MFS), uses a special controller component from Dematic GmbH, the Dematic SubDriver. Another special feature of the worldwide pilot project: The structure of the SAP system is based on the complex processes of a state-of-the-art, highly-dynamic container warehouse, the innovative compact warehouse system known as Multishuttle from Dematic.
