I don’t know why this film wasn’t a bigger hit, Travolta was on a roll with Saturday Night Fever and Grease and this film made Gilley’s a huge tourist attraction for years after. Along with Blow-Out this is his most underrated film
It was a huge box office hit in 1980. I'm not sure why you think it wasn't a hit. It played in theaters throughout the entire summer of 1980. The soundtrack album was huge. It may not have won a lot of awards, but it definitely raked in the bucks that summer.
I am old enough to remember when this was new. This movie was HUGE. Fashion in the early 80's was bombarded with cowboy clothes due to the popularity of this film.
@@englishandcompositionlearn6745Not really. It's not even ranked as a top 10 movie for Travolta. Although I believe it was his best. Country didn't hit mainstream until ten years later
For those railing on about "Texas and the South", Travolta was born in New Jersey, Winger in Ohio, and the director was a gay man born in Arkansas in 1936. I'm sure they all can combine their talents to accurately display the southern way of life, particularly south Texas oilfield country.
No, that's not the typical people in Pasadena, Texas. I really felt like it was all very inaccurate to say the least. Not everyone is THAT hickey and ignorant. Barry Corbin was probably the most accurate, as he was born in Lamesa, TX in 1936.
I think Travolta’s character was from rural Texas and he moved to the cosmopolitan city of Houston so Travolta was “ hickey” living in an urban setting. Perhaps Sissy was originally from rural Texas who moved to Houston? but the movie doesn’t say.
This was all around nearby my neighborhood growing up! Seeing all of these familiar sites on the big screen was truly a thrill! And yes, the puddles from potholes were that deep and like a small pond after a good rain!
@@brandy012173you got a point. Maybe that's Pasadena, TX women. I've seen some of them take verbal abuse, have black eyes, busted jaws, and getting beat the hell out of them in parking lots yet they still stand by their "man". Notice the parenthesis please. As a Pasadena, TX man, I don't see ANY of that as an example of being a man.
Idk about y'all, but Debra Winger (Sissy) is stunning in this movie. Even the simplest look she gives at 2:06 she is gorgeous. What a woman. Great movie too! :)
My mom an dad's favorite movie remindef my moms Mexican an my dad's black an they act just like this an spent their hole lives together without getting merry i love them so much he would call my mom Texas sissy. R.i.p dad
Haha, I just leave her alone and go on to let her know that she and whatever mind games and other nonsense she's up to aren't worth it. It's hilarious to see her get pissed and try to act so hurt and upset that I didn't give her the satisfaction of giving into her drama and playing her mind games. One of my ex-girlfriends tried that crap with me and then tried to act hurt and then tried guilt-tripping me about not giving into it and I laughed at her for being so pathetic and immature.
It took years to own a truck exactly like he's and it goes to car shows every weekend and wins a great deal.... Its siged by Micky Guilly and Johnny Lee on the dashboard. John has looked at it as well and tried to buy it. But it gets spoiled to death. We've a few pictures of him in it. Over the years. And its been a great truck... ❤
@@djcease1996 The more I watch Urban Cowboy....Wes was better to her than Bud was. Awww, the days of dancing at clubs, drinking, and all the drama that came with it lol. Some of my best memories! 😂😂😂

It was a big hit at the time, but now forgotten compared to Travolta's other movies like Grease & Saturday Night Fever.

The best movie producers will always interview locals if a movie is geography based. So your comment is dumb
Best marriage proposal ever!

Karen Frances Counts no way they would mess up this perfect movie
No.
I agree Heck maybe even a series.
Me too
They messed up Saturday Night Fever with the movie “ Staying Alive” which was a dud so it’s better they don’t but they could do a remake.
"Jesus Christ I almost hit y'all!"

This is what a man should do when you tell him to leave you alone. This is what we mean fellas! Put up a fight! Lol jesus i love this part😂

Of course! Because every man's life is simply incomplete without an active restraining order.
I think more than a few of us have seen this in one variation or another in real life.
David Hutchinson yupp happen to me once hahaha and in Houston on the same side of town just of couple of blocks from where this was located

If you haven't lived life like these guys, then you never lived at all.
My favorite part of the movie! Lol! This is love
i want a pickup like bud's
We all do but Ford has ruined the looks of their pickups, not to mention their aluminum body, start/stop technology, and ecoboost bullshit.
The good ole classic 1978/1979 Ford F150 Lariat 4×4 very sharp
Man i tell you 79 F-150 will always be my favorite truck
And thats comming from a die hard Chevrolet Truck Fan
That's when trucks were REAL trucks. My dad had a 1978 FORD F 150 Ranger XLT 4x4 with a 351 and a 4 speed.
Fine forget it
Best movie ever! :)
It's not the best movie ever but I think it is a really good movie though.

Love This Scene
Spencer Hwy And Shaver i know that because i can see the old montgomery ward sign
And the Handy Dan sign.
They should have made the clip a few seconds longer so people could see her say okay to the marriage proposal.
This is why I'm ALWAYS gonna be SINGLE and ALONE FOREVER! No Relationship, No Marriage, Just ME ALONE FOREVER TIL I DIE! 💪🕶👍

"Fine, forget it".
Good thing that movie took place in 1980. If it were now all the feminists would bitch and Bud would be doing time
coulson sims And the 2nd guy she went with who treated her worse 10x over.

This is us Michael Dippel. Stubborn as hell and just as prideful! Lord I would give anything to have us back. Anything! 143 ♥️
“ I didn’t hit you that hard ; You don’t know what hard is ! “ That wasn’t nice of Bud to hit her at all ; It’s not respectful!
He hit her quite often she too got a lot of abuse in this film
Sissy should've chosen herself at the end smh
Two bulls butt’n heads. 😂 In the end he really did Love her tho… only in the movies 😔
