    I have watched all of your videos and I haven't commented before. I really like your channel. I love your sometimes ASMR delivery, the great care you take and the philosophy behind your modelling as being toy trains. Your layout is full of interest and offers lots of play potential with seemingly endless possibilities and such varied stock. I think my sentimental favourite is the shiny little acetate Jinty with the sweet little maroon coaches but, having said that, all of them are interesting and precious. Cheers.

    Hi Oscar,
    I've been very busy as of late. I'm trying to get caught up on all the action.
    These little Dock Authority shunter locomotives are so cute. I love em so much! When Tri-ang decided to make these little freelance locomotives, I don't think they ever realized how popular they would become. A brilliant piece of kit.

      As you say they are a really popular locomotive I think its the headlight that does it. Great to hear you have found time to catch up with the videos.

    Hi Oscar, Another great trip down memory lane:-)) As a child of the 70s my fave treat was to visit Poole Quay - my Gran would spoil me with a copy of the Victor and a Fab lolly and we would sit with our feet dangling over the edge (very daring but everyone used to do it!) and watch the World go by.
    There would be a constant procession of pleasure craft and yachts but I was always fascinated by the merchant ships that would unload at the docks opposite. Huge cranes (one looked like a giant praying mantis!) would unload steel, timber and gravel into waiting wagons on the dockside.
    The highlight was the appearance of the little four wheeled diesel shunter that would tirelessly shunt the trucks all day- I can still here it’s engine roar and cheeky hooter whenever I visit the area today!
    Sadly there is no longer a rail connection to the Port but this Triang model remains in my collection to remember those happy, carefree times!

    Hello Oscar, Been watching your videos for some time, great stuff along with all the information you give about each model. These old Dock Shunters are very collectable with all the variations they done, I have eight all different, Red, Black and Yellow all with nothing broken, interesting in your catalogue they showed one with a different number although you said, not made. Nice to hear all your wording obviously a real enthusiast, I look forward to more

      Hi Barry, glad you're enjoying the videos, I think that was the 1958 catalogue with 57 on the cab side. Pat Hammonds books make no reference to 57 being on the side of this model. Its quite confusing sometimes reading across three books and I frequently make mistakes! Sounds like you have a great collection. I have the black one you see in the video and a slightly later one in black with its lift of lid box numbered 5, A red one numbered 3 from the late 60s in a Tri-ang Hornby square section box with flaps at each end, a black one from 1976 numbered 3 (smooth wheels) in a widow box with black face card & white outline illustration of the model. Then I have the Yard Switchers R353 a Red unboxed one numbered TR20071 and shield on cab , a yellow on in a lift of lid box with Tri-ang Railways on the side and shield on cab and then A Yellow one in the RS11 set with Tri-ang Railways on the cab side but very worn and shield on cab. So I still have a few variations to have fun finding. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Great video again mate ,I have two from around 76/77 one I got mint boxed last year and the other I’ve had from new ,I just found a replacement body in mint condition for her as the old one was well worn from my childhood ,It was and still is a sweet runner and I’m still amazed how slow it can go even over peco insulfrog points ,those old motors if well maintained were superb and it great that your channel is bringing back good memories as I got this shunter for Christmas 77 and always remember the smell of the fresh oil and turning out the lights to see the head light shining it came in the same present as a texaco wagon and the must have set of 1977 the intercity 125 can imagine how busy I was Christmas afternoon had it set up on a board in my room my dad ,grandad ,step brother and uncle playing with my new trains hehehehe didn’t get a look in until Boxing Day mate
    Thanks Oscar Mark 😊👍🏻

    Nice to see your dock shunter and running so well. I have one which I have converted to DCC complete with LED head and rear lights which I run on code 100 track. It runs OK but would probably benefit from an attached shunting truck with additional pickups. I always enjoy to your videos. Keep them coming.

      Good morning Russell, thanks again for watching glad you enjoyed the video. Despite its appearance, they sold these in its various forms in staggering numbers. Must have made them a few pounds over the years! a cheap model to produce with a working headlamp.
      It's not too late to get that letter sent to the North Pole, although I note that the Post Office is recommending a postcode that seems to be located in Sheffield according to google maps.

    The R.110 and R.212 bogie bolster was modelled on the LMS bogie bolster, even down to the Commonwealth bogies.
    When British Railways started to change the bogies to Diamond frame versions on this legacy stock, Triang also kept with the then "Modern Image" on British Railways during the 1950's.
    Eventually the modernisation of BR in the early 960's saw the real life and Triang bogie bolsters replaced with a more modern design.

    The Richmond made one is also described as "Bogey Bolster Wagon on the box", the others are "Bogie". US market influence maybe,? Lovely little locomotive.

      We Americans say bogies as well, but we usually use the term “trucks,” because we call wagons rail cars instead of trucks.

    Oscar ..have you come across the Hornby Triang/Minic motor rail set . ? I had one given to me many years ago ..it contained the dock Shunter in red plus car transporter . It came with an oval of track with a siding ,an unloading ramp and an oval of model car powered roadway

    Still got my dock shunter. Remember happy childhood days watching the little light running around in the dark. How do you prevent your steel track from rusting. I saw one tip using WD40.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good evening John, I think the light on this model gave it great appeal. Terrific to hear you still have your original model. I've only wiped the railheads and painted the fishplates with WD40 or similar for storage after I've cleaned up the track first. When installing on the layout I would then clean this off before use and make sure to clean the inside surface of the fishplates to ensure a good connection. I haven't suffered from too much rust so far, regular use and track cleaning seem to do the trick. But the end of siding next to the engine seems to get light surface rust on the railheads from time to time.
      Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video.

    Great video, I never had the dock shunter but a couple of my friends did and I did acquire one in the 90's but a none runner, but long since gone to a boot sale. I think that the middle period of the bolster has American style bogies, the later is the more prototypical GW bogies, interesting that Triang always endeavoured to improve the models rather than just have representative toy trains. Did they have customer feedback in those days? I think i remember that the catalogues had pull outs for suggestions for future models, but not a regular thing?

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Chris, I think looking back over the there range of models, they did pretty well trying to keep a balance between realism and providing cost-effective model railways system given the production techniques and materials available at the time. Interesting question about customer feedback, it would be interesting to know more.
      Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video.

    R253 was my first ever diesel model and it really is a classic Triang model, great looking and tough as old boots too-mine did a few baseboard tumbles and survived. Same power bogie as the lovely TC diesels too. How do these mechanisms last Oscar? do they need frquent lubrication on those pads and motor worms? regards Paul

    now these wagons have all got the early coupling, but presumably they're made from polystyrene? was the acetone plastic only used in the first years or when did they change plastics? I presume well before they moved to margate

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning, this wagon started life in the early 50s and from what I've read the change of material had started by 1955, not all models changed at the same time.

    Again, here’s proof Triang were innovators so early on. An industrial diesel loco, in the style of industrial 0-4-0 locos Connie, Polly and Nellie!
    With the current rage of industrial locos being made, Triang were always ahead for their age - I think the only comparison you can make is that nowadays the locos are more refined!
    And how many variants were made of the Dock Authority diesel? A few, I know.
