Definately has all the oil pressure.. Had this farlycranked up on my multi amp 70's vintage home audio system thru the whole warmup.. Sounded really cool man. Almost like it was right here rattling my house. Getting excited to see this mill mobile.
@@judgegixxer The oil pressure gauge is fucked up, starts at 25lbs, so subtract 25 from the reading and that's the real oil pressure. Which is still kinda high, but I have 15/40 Delo oil in it now, gonna drop it to 10/30 Amsoil on the change.
My Jet boat has a bigblock Chevy for it. Thinking about putting twin turbos on it. 79 Cutlass this going in is gutted, lightweight old street racer from back in the day. Had 455 Oldsmobile engines and a 425 Oldsmobile engine in it. Been sitting 20+yrs. Figured I'd just get it running with this unit for now, but I'm also building another bigblock Chevy to go into it. Car has had Alot of engines swapped in and out. Usually Oldsmobile tho, but I did build a rowdy oval track type 4.3 Chevy V6 out of a 87 Astro Van and it got tested in the Cutlass. Sold it to a guy needing a S-10 engine. With this SBC in that Cutlass, it'll weigh around 2600lbs. Has a 86 Buick GN 4-10 geared & spool 8.5 rear in it now, but I'm going to swap a bolt in 9 inch with a 4-56 gear and a T-400 with 4500 stall. That GN 8.5 is too valuable to break these days. Rare unit.
@hvacboater I'll probably drag the old Mantra out in the spring if I get the engine put together by then. Would like to have it out in the river giving it hell next summer.

Can't focus on just one. Currently building more than 10 SBCs, a Pontiac 400, and a 455 Oldsmobile and 3 bigblock Chevys.
Just would like to know Cam and heads specifics. What make each engine unique in its own way. We all know its another 350 but how does it differ and how it will be used in certain application. Like as for drag racing, circle track our mud and asfault slinging. Im not complaining. I really like your show. Im a gearhead also

I could talk about this shit for hours, but I try to keep it short. This is a pretty basic build. 1990 L-98 block .040 over, 11-1 compression, 200cc Brodix heads with extra blending, 62cc chambers. Ported Brodix intake, 1206 port size. Lunati roller, mid 250s@.050, 595/595 lift, 108 lobe separation. HEI with Dynamod module & DUI coil. Timing locked out at 36 degrees. 850 Holley double pumper goes on it in the vehicle. Could drive it everyday. It's going in a gutted Street/Strip G-body. 4-56 gear & 4500 stall. I'll take it out on back roads and give it hell. Take it to the track and get some numbers. Pretty much a drag car you can drive down the street. Wouldn't want to go far tho. I've had the car over 30yrs, done had a bunch of engines go thru it. Friends called it the Beast. Usually ran built 455 & 425 Oldsmobile engines in it since it's a 1979 Cutlass. But Chevys fall right in too with the Moroso Solid motor mounts. Using a pair of 1 7/8 primary, 3 1/2 collector Schoenfeld headers in the car with this 357 SBC, probably no mufflers. I'll run it on 28x10.5x15 M/T slicks. 275/60/15 street meats,15x10 rear wheels & 15x3 with M/T frontrunner tires on the front. Using Centerline wheels. It's a old school hotrod. With this SBC, it'll weigh around 2600lbs.

No dash, no interior whatsoever, manual brakes, manual steering, 90/10 drag shocks & Moroso trick springs on the front, 50/50 rear shocks & drag springs, rear end is a built 8.5 from a 86 Buick GN. T-400 trans. Spare tire well in the trunk was removed and covered with a piece of sheet metal. Battery in trunk. Mallory fuel pump. Car has been deep in the 10s in the 1/4 and 6.80s in the 8th with a rowdy 455 Oldsmobile engine. That was probably 25yrs ago. Car been parked over 20yrs now. I'm also building a bigblock Chevy that I'm gonna drop in the 79 Cutlass and I'm also collecting parts to build another 455 Oldsmobile for it. But it'll probably be a couple yrs before that unit gets finished. Expensive as hell. Id like to get it in the 9s NA with a 455 Olds. The car is pretty much a testbed for different engines. I build Pontiacs and Buicks too.
@@keithharris9685 I have a drag racing background, but I built engines for a living for decades and built alot of oval track engines, boat engines, drag engines, street rod engines etc. Whatever was needed. Also built motorcycle engines and was into motocross pretty heavy years ago. Raced Kawasaki KX 250s back in the day. Have a old Harley drag bike tucked away now. Also have a 1971 Mantra jet boat with a 496 bigblock Chevy. Been sitting for years. Pulled the engine out and dropped it in a 86 Bonneville years ago. Have another bigblock for the boat, probably gonna go with twin turbos on the next build. I already have the twin turbo bigblock, just gotta put it together.
Is that 60 over to make the 357 ci? I am now about to do a 385 Chev stroker, so it needed bore size of 40 over. Last summer I did for my work truck the 383 Stroker and the is 30 over 350 block
@@thereluctantgearhead4544 Yes I have done all of that already. My new 383 using the 6 inch rods and an Eagle 350/ 383 crank aluminum heads and 202 -160 values 68 cc chambers. It works great in my 1988 work truck. So that worked so well my 1991 Chev 1/2 ton is getting the 385 - 6inch rods - Scat 350-383 crank TBI run with TBI 65.3 chamber head and 194 vales. By the way Sumit Racing calls these cranks 350/383 because the connecting rod journals are sized for 350 connecting rods. The 350 blocks I am using are 1989 and a 1992 with the once piece main seal and a block for roller cam Somehow you didn't understand what I wrote.
@@Thomas-xl5ng Id be afraid of flat tappet cams these days. Lots of failures over the last decade or so. Only flat tappet cams I would use these days would be some new old stock from the 80s/90s era. Failures were rare back then. Never heard nothing about it happening. People just threw them in engines and didn't even really break them in, just go run the hell out of it. A lot of shit was better made back then. Especially flat tappet lifters. The old Melling lifters lasted forever back in the day.
@thereluctantgearhead4544 I run a 406 roller in my '84 El Camino for 30 years. Comp cams,lifters & rockers were all made here...not anymore... You're right...I used a ton of Crane parts in my 396 days. They're gone.

Hate to break that GN 8.5 rear. Too valuable to abuse now, so it's coming out. Still gotta build a transmission for it too. Another driveshaft also be needed. Probably gonna wire up a Moroso switch panel too. I'm wanting to use a Jones Motorola Moroso mechanical tach too with the cool gold anodized bracket. Also gonna swap out the Mallory fuel pump for a BG 280GPH unit. Gonna replace the fuel lines and fuel tank too. Id like to get the body work lined out a little better and shoot some satin black on it. So there's a few task at hand. And the 84 Z-28 is in my way, so I gotta get it functional first. It don't need much now. Just some shitty wire wheeling in the interior and lay down some fresh paint. Gonna just run one plastic racing seat in it. Gotta get the cage welded in too. And it needs another driveshaft now too.
