She's so right. Prawns are expensive everywhere. When I eventually tried homemade prawn sesame toast, I was lamenting at how many prawns I had to use up to make enough of the topping to serve 6 people.
I have made this about 4 times. Its so delicious. After frying I cut it into mini triangles and freeze it. Just need to warm it up in the oven when i need it. Cheaper and tastier than the shop bought ones. Thank you Nadiya.
I used to work in a Chinese takeaway, I used to make prawn toast by the loaf load 🙃 we used to use 80% prawn and 20% chicken breast mix and seasoned with salt, white pepper and sesame oil. Most Chinese takeaways use chicken breast along with the prawn to bulk the mixture.
Hmmm...but I could swear that's illegal as your adding ingredients the consumer doesn't know about .Like some people dont eat chicken,so that's why they're ordering prawn toast, also you might only eat kosher or halal meat so you opt for a fish option. Very underhanded.
Chutney you’re totally right, I’m sure it happens more than we know I was young when I worked there so I didn’t really think about it just did as I was told but now I have my own dietary requirements I realised how wrong it is.
@@reyhantimmons-cetin6860 well at least you realise now which is the main thing 😊. And I would never have known that chinese takeaways do this - so good bit of info to retain if I'm ever there again.
Agreed except for one point. Seafood isn’t kosher (aka prawns). Regular fish like salmon and tuna is kosher. Also, this is why kosher restaurants have supervision. So that if someone eats at a kosher restaurant, they know they’re getting a certain standard of food that follows the dietary laws and there aren’t hidden ingredients that aren’t allowed.
It's a thing here in the UK ..all chinese takeaways and restaurants have prawn toast on the menu...very yummy .the chicken toast though , is something new and creative ..takeaways dont do those
Oh wow I am in Australia watching her in the British Bake Off and a friend mentioned her and her new book wow she is great quick savoury meals a breath of fresh air new fan for life 🇦🇺🐨🦘❤️
Chinese immigrants improvising ingredients they had on hand to make similar dishes from home or creating recipes that would cater to the Western tastes.
What type of oil do you fry in? Also, here in the US it is hard to find white bread that looks to be that dense consistency and size. Looks so delicious!
Lseverett5 Have to Agree sliced white bread in UK is ten times better,I suggest you buy a Pullman loaf from bakery and have them slice it. Pricey but so worth it.😋
sn mn , this wouldn’t make the meat mixture hard to stick on the bread. Toasting the bread is a way to keep the bread as dry as possible so that it doesn’t absorb so much oil when deep fried.
I don't think freezing them is a good idea,it will ruin the texture of the bread, but you can freeze the chicken mixture for quite some time.Hope this helps you!
i made it today it was crispy but it took so long to fry? why? recipe was great i would appreciate if you guide us for flame should be high low and baking alternative next time in your recipes
From what I’ve seen and tried, the best way is to cool the friend prawn toast quickly (say for 30 mins) and then transfer them to the freezer. Then heat them back up in the oven at 200C for 7-8 minutes
I made these and froze some. It was delicious and so handy to have some on standby in the freezer. I would probably add spring onions next time i make them.
A+A maybe pop it in a toaster *oven* for a few minutes or even an actual toaster (I wouldn’t recommend the toaster because the seeds could burn in the toaster) but a toaster *oven* should work perfect
@@zberry582 But she says at the end that she's going to fry up the rest of them for the rest of the week, which leads one to believe she means fry first, then freeze. Well, I guess the only solution is to make them and try and few options to find out! ;)
The good part of cooking is that when you have finished you can eat it. The good part of ordering a takeaway is that when it arrives, you can eat it. One of these is easier than the other.
She is so down to earth compared to other British cooks, she is such a likeable person like oh my god!

Sabrina Islam deffo😊
So true
Sabrina Islam I don’t know how prices compares to the UK but yeah, even here in the states they can be expensive.
Nahhhh she said lamenting im dead
Her cooking show is underrated. I like how her recipes have ingredients that we usually buy or can easily & cook & her recipes are affordable.

Thank you Nadiya.
This is exactly why I love Nadiya! Thank you for giving her a show 🥳🥳
50/50 ratio chicken and prawns to get that ‘prawn’ flavour on a budget
I love that people all over the world are getting down with Nadiya, its proof that being a kind happy person goes a long way.
"Oh my god there's something about fried bread that makes me very happy"
I mean... Same tho?
Not on the waistline :(
Yeah absolutely! I know this sounds crazy but they used to serve us fried bread with chicken fricassee for our school meals!

I made this last week and it vanished so quickly!! Everyone loved it 🥰
Never in my life seen this, chicken or shrimp, but I'll most definitely try this!
(I'm from the South...U.S. 😉)

I never seen this dish. I live in Russia where shrimp are expensive too, so I’ll start with this recipe!
Oo how interesting! I’m allergic to seafood so chicken is better for me.
Me too! I just found an awesome shrimp toast recipe and was sad I couldn't try it. I will definitely try her version.
Cayanna P Ooooh that sounds good! What was the shrimp toast website?
That looks delish! We don’t have prawn toast in the US, but I’m definitely going to make this version soon.

Some places near me have what they call shrimp toast but I doubt there’s actually any shrimp in it.
I just love your attitude to cooking. Great recipe thank you
I can't get enough of the BBC Food series!
Love Nadiya, and her recipes are always really tasty. More please :)
I’ve never heard of prawn toast! Now I know! Looks delicious!
I watch Nadiya on a daily 😊🥺❤️❤️
Much much love 😍😍😍
This must be a British thing because I’ve never heard of it here in the US. Looks yummy! 😋
Who else is American and on a BBC videos binge? I love the UK 🇬🇧❤️

Hola! I came from Indonesia
THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA! thank you for the recipe
I have never heard of prawn toast. Very interesting.
Can I just say that there is no prawn toast or chicken toast in China. Who invented this?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrimp_toast Wiki's answer. Google is your best friend.
Lin Du.... lighten up, girl!

Sweetie put it this way... Just assume almost anything 'chinese' has been adapted for the western market here in the uk/us.
You would be surprised if you ate Chinese food in india!!!

Usually a rape seed vegetable oil here in US you call it canola
Wow.. Never thought we could do this ... I’m saving this video
When my mom made prawn toast, she always toasted the bread until it dried out, then she spread the meat mixture onto toast before frying.
Thanks for the tip, but wondering if that would make it harder for the meat mixture to stick to the bread.. i.e. fall off in the pan?

God Bless you & your Family Nadia lovely dish! 🙏❤️
THANK YOU for NOT cutting the crust off the bread!!! 😄
Tried these and they were amazing! Nadiya you are a genius!
Fish or oyster will do the trick for prawn flavor
You can make tempura prawns and put one on top of each slice it tastes so good
Tried this. It's so sooo good.
Never heard of this but definitely going to try!
I've never heard of prawn or chicken toast lol but hope to try this one day
looks absolutely delicious cant wait to try it out at home x
How do you recommend I reheat them when I need to? Also how long will they stay fresh in my freezer or should I refrigerate them?
You can actually reheat them in your oven for 1-2 min,btw not a microwave oven though
@@bellaccino129 Thank you for responding to my question. Also, can I freeze them and if so how long will they hold before they go bad?

BBC, you are very lucky to land nadiya Hussain on your channel
After freezing do you reheat prawn toast frozen in pan or thaw?
I’ve never heard of prawn toast. Is this a UK thing?
It’s a Hong Kong thing:) so not surprised that dish made it to the UK.
i will try them hopefully inashlla

I just made the not prawn toast it's so good!!!!
Great if you have a seafood allergy
Girl did gooooood
Add seaweed powder for ocean flavor
Ha!Good idea!
I love them!! I'd like to freeze them but do I freeze them raw or fried? And how do you defrost them? In the oven to make them crispy? Thanks ☺️

Wow such a lovely idea I need to try this
Genius!
Can a mix of prawns and chicken be used
Surf and turf!!
Oh god
I love this!
At the risk of sounding really dumb, how would I heat these up from frozen, would I fry again or like stick it in the oven?
Oven of course.
There is something about Bangladeshian genes, after 3 pregnancies, with sugar and fried food on a daily basis, she looks like this 🌈
Queen 👸
It looks soo good
Hello i just wanted to say that is a good idea.i much try
Looks yummy!
Are prawns the same as shrimp in the UK? You can usually get shrimp here pretty inexpensive
HomemadeINSTYLE I think prawns are smaller than shrimp. In the uk they are commonly used in sandwiches and prawn cocktail
Adding a bit of fish sauce to the chicken paste could bring about that seafoody prawny taste
Thank You STING!
How to heat from frozen, I wonder? Bake in oven?
Had the same question...
U can put in the Airfrier.. or yes Oven just till its warmed up a bit
No no... You keep it in the freezer unfried. Fry after you take it out of the freezer

does anyone know a vegetarian alternative to chicken for this recipe
Boiled chickpea instead of chicken
Cottage cheese
I thought this would be some kind of a meat free recipe when I read the title. 😅
I'm making this today
I was like wtf prawn toast !
❤❤❤❤
Why not use fish , still give you the fishy tang
Good idea. But maybe texture-wise, chicken is closer to prawn? If it's not overcookeed, at least.
Yum

Would be nice if she featured a healthy recipe
That’s because she mainly does party foods and cakes
If you miss the fishy prawn taste just add a dash of fish sauce to the chicken mix!
Yummy
These were nice but the chicken was a bit bland in comparison to normal prawn toast.
I'm really not sure about frying sliced bread in that much oil.. It will absorb the oil like a sponge. not a fan..
How do you not get salmonella?
"don't tell anyone"
Made a video publicly
Well at least it looks delicious
What?1 too much oil honey
not familiar with cooking are we?
Thai takeaways not Chinese
No all chinese take aways here in the uk have prawn toast on their menu
alim3611 yeah but it’s also in Thai takeaway because this is Thai-Chinese dim sum
Lol I thought I was a cheapskate
