- Update. I should have replaced the other bearing at the time, it also seized 3 months later.
The dry and dirty brush roller axle caused the plastic surround of the bushing on the axle to become hot and malleable. When the plastic cooled after use, the axle was now off centre as a result of the belt pulling the roller over to one side in its stationary position.
This is the process I used to disassemble, diagnose and repair the bearing, saving me from having to buy a new brush roller.
If you found the video useful please 'LIKE' as it will help to raise the video up the suggested list and help others. I don't stand to make anything from this as I cannot monetise below 1000 subs anyway.
This is one of the best repair videos I've seen lately. Thanks.
Thank you.
Thanks for the vid. My Kirby Tradition has the same exact issue. I just watched this and happened to have two 1/4 x 5/8 in sealed (RS) bearings in my desk drawer here at work. (I'm a machine designer by trade)
I will try this repair when I get home tonight. I'll let you know how it works out.
Pleased to know it's helped someone. Good luck with the repair.
Did you manage to get it repaired. Don't suppose you make videos of the machines you design do you?
The entire plastic center and bronze bushing can be punched out. Use a junk brushroll metal center tube and smack other end to knock it out. Should have taken 10 seconds to remove it.
Thanks for adding that info, unfortunately I didn't know how it was constructed at the time.
Can you tell me the exact bearing you used? Bearing code please. I'm interested in doing this improvement which will make life easier for maintenance in the future.
I believe it was this one DDR4ZZ Ball Bearing Premium Brand Koyo 1/4x5/8x5mm SKU: DDR4ZZ/KOYO if the size matches my description in the video. I certainly ordered this around the right time. Hope this helps.
