It changed drastically under the Thane Commissioner Mr. Chandrashekar from 2000-2004. he was a non corrupt officer and transformed Thane. wide roads, demolition of illegal bunglows including that of politicians of Congress, shiv sena and other parties, lots of greenary and beautification of lakes. Due to his demolition drive of demolition of politicians bunglow, he was issued transfer order from state government. The entire Thane citizens including rickshawwallas, slum dwellers, comman man, housewives came on road to show solidarity and protest the governments order.The order was cancelled and he continued the good work. Thane was then awarded the cleanest city in India. luckily from then till today it has gone on improving and lots of people from mumbai came and settled in Thane giving it a real estate boom.
