Haha time to theorize:
So basically we assume Nightmare knows about his soul, but just won’t tell anybody. However at the end he says “I feel like I have to *find* out who I am on my own”. What if when his soul, Ethan, came to a dying date, he forgot everything. Possibly over time, possibly on that day. I’d like to believe that the reason he can’t remember is because he didn’t want to remember a day of what his life was. Possibly because he wasn’t happy in it as portrayed with Little Nightmare. There is also the thought that whichever way he died could have damaged his memory, and everything about his past life was forgotten. This is just my thoughts and I’m likely wrong, but thats what a theory is for. An assumption.
But that's just a theory- A GACHA THEORY! And I believe that Ethan (Nightmare) was killed by abusement and his head was damaged because of it, causing him to loose his memories. We can see he was abused in some way because in one part of the vid he said, "please don't hurt me!" Poor Ethan
